Enoch Posted July 28, 2006 Posted July 28, 2006 The new Civ 4 expansion is out this week. Anybody here picked it up? I might in the next few days, and I'd appreciate any impressions. Here's a pretty in-depth fan preview.
Oerwinde Posted July 29, 2006 Posted July 29, 2006 (edited) I got it. I'm not good enough to play the scenarios without cheating... and unlike the base game, they're no fun when you cheat. Other than the new civs, the base game improvements really aren't all that noticeable. They're the kind of things you don't notice until they're gone, like the different city graphics for different civs. Edited July 29, 2006 by Oerwinde The area between the balls and the butt is a hotbed of terrorist activity.

The warlords arn't that helpful, imo. I tend to use them to build their special building rather than combat.
Oerwinde Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 Any ideas for the next expansion? Apparently both Civ 2 and Civ 3 had two, so its likely Civ 4 will have another. Personally I'd like to see one based on revolutions. Civil wars and such. Its something thats been missing since the beginning. I'd like to see different cultural groups within the various empires seek independance through war or peace, etc. I'd also like to see the return of espionage. Staging revolts, bribing units, etc. And the return of building your palace. The area between the balls and the butt is a hotbed of terrorist activity.
SadExchange Posted July 30, 2006 Posted July 30, 2006 It seems like they did put a lot into the different scenarios though. Many online sites and player reviews have gone on and on about the fun experience they've had with the 8 different scenarios. I plan on picking the expansion up this week beecause I really enjoyed the original game and believe that the scenarios are going to be awesome, along with the new civs and units.
Jumjalum Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Do the unique buildings have much impact on gameplay? I always thought that was a pretty cool feature. We now bring you live footage from the World Championship Staring Final.

Mostly they're just the same building with an added bonus and different graphics. The preview at the top of the thread has it about right, it will just make it easier to choose your favorite civ. Hurlshort Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 Hmm, since I can't even finish my current campaigns, I doubt I need an expansion. Anyone else playing by email? It works pretty well, although a bit slow with 6 people.
Oerwinde Posted August 1, 2006 Posted August 1, 2006 I just ran through the Chinese Unification scenario. It was fun. Eventually I won through diplomatic victory, and all I had to do was pound one of the larger rivals into capitulation. That made me large enough for 2 other factions to swear fealty to me, which gave me enough votes for the win. The area between the balls and the butt is a hotbed of terrorist activity.
