astr0creep Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 I also do more or less what you do, except I don't upgrade as often as that. And I still don't think it's worth just upgrading the processor. I'd say wait for budget DX10 cards to come out and then, if you can afford it, buy a budget graphics card, a Sempron or Celeron, a budget mobo and 1 or 2 gigs of ram. It would perhaps cost 300 or 350$ (American). Getting a new processor and more ram, but keeping the graphics card probably won't do much of a difference because the graphics card is most likely, already the bottleneck. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hmm... I hadn't thought about DX10. http://entertainmentandbeyond.blogspot.com/
Bokishi Posted November 23, 2006 Author Posted November 23, 2006 Well the Evga card arrived yesterday, and it has not been artifacting like the BFG, so I guess it's a keeper. So now my current specs are: Intel P4 3.2 Ghz HT (bottleneck!) 2 GB DDR2 RAM EVGA Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum WD Raptor X 150 GB 10k RPM I took the physx card out since there are no games for it yet, and all it does is add heat. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You have all that top of the line gear yet you are still using a P4 3.2GHz? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I know, I suck LOL. Maybe I'll go find some cheap dual-core, or build a quad-core system next year... when my spending funds are back. Current 3DMark

WITHTEETH Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 OK here is my new PC I ordered the parts, some will take awhile though like my mobo Coolermaster Stacker 830 Antec True Power 650 Watts Asus Striker Extreme 680i mobo Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4 DDR2 PC6400 800mhz2 gig Corsair Dominator Ram Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Pioneer DVD 4X R/RW eVGA 7900GT I should be able to overclock my CPU/ram a bit with air cooling, ill tell you how that goes. mkreku Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 I should be able to overclock my CPU/ram a bit with air cooling, ill tell you how that goes. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Very nice system, first of all! Second: yes, you'll be able to overclock it a lot using just the standard Intel fan. I am currently running my E6600 at an even 3.0 GHz (and my Corsair memory sticks at ~850 MHz), and I could easily go higher than that without risking my system. I'm going to buy a new cooler though, before I try upping it to 3.4 or 3.6 GHz. Oh, and if anyone has any good suggestions to what kind of fan/cooler I should be getting, don't hesitate to tell me. I prefer air cooling before water cooling. The one I am looking at right now, The Scythe Ninja Plus: http://www.scythe-eu.com/en/products/cpu-c...pu-kuehler.html It's a bit costly, and it's huge, but it's supposed to be very effective and silent: A review: http://www.guru3d.com/article/cooling/333/1/ Swedes, go to: Spel2, for the latest game reviews in swedish!
Bokishi Posted November 28, 2006 Author Posted November 28, 2006 I figured out that this 8800 NEEDS a conroe to be fully exploited. I go get me one for Chirstmas. Current 3DMark
jaguars4ever Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Just upgraded my monitor to this. Unfortunately, NWN2 runs like crap at 1360 x 768 (even though it looks awesome!) Guess I'm going to have to buy a new system.

Unless they had the same problem i had when i tried installing my CPU fan which is the manufaturer left a certain kind of screw out of the package which screwed me over for a week. I need to find a good easily installed fan. I figured out that this 8800 NEEDS a conroe to be fully exploited. Diamond Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 (edited) Just got Audigy 4 to use instead of on-board audio. The difference is big, especially with 5.1 sound. My poor headphones do not handle it too well though. Now waiting for these to arrive: Edited January 12, 2007 by Diamond
Diamond Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 I had wireless headphones before, but they tend to have a lot of interference and its battery dies at most unsuitable moments.
