I also do more or less what you do, except I don't upgrade as often as that.

And I still don't think it's worth just upgrading the processor. I'd say wait for budget DX10 cards to come out and then, if you can afford it, buy a budget graphics card, a Sempron or Celeron, a budget mobo and 1 or 2 gigs of ram. It would perhaps cost 300 or 350$ (American).

Getting a new processor and more ram, but keeping the graphics card probably won't do much of a difference because the graphics card is most likely, already the bottleneck.

Hmm... I hadn't thought about DX10. ;)

Well the Evga card arrived yesterday, and it has not been artifacting like the BFG, so I guess it's a keeper. :)

So now my current specs are:

Intel P4 3.2 Ghz HT (bottleneck!)

2 GB DDR2 RAM

EVGA Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTX

Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum

WD Raptor X 150 GB 10k RPM

I took the physx card out since there are no games for it yet, and all it does is add heat.

You have all that top of the line gear yet you are still using a P4 3.2GHz? ;)

I know, I suck LOL.

Maybe I'll go find some cheap dual-core, or build a quad-core system next year... when my spending funds are back.

Don't you just have to go to the loo to get your funds back?

Considering he has the money to buy a brand new 8800 GTX, one would think that he could easily afford a Core 2 Duo system... :()

Very nice system, first of all!

Second: yes, you'll be able to overclock it a lot using just the standard Intel fan. I am currently running my E6600 at an even 3.0 GHz (and my Corsair memory sticks at ~850 MHz), and I could easily go higher than that without risking my system. I'm going to buy a new cooler though, before I try upping it to 3.4 or 3.6 GHz.

Oh, and if anyone has any good suggestions to what kind of fan/cooler I should be getting, don't hesitate to tell me. I prefer air cooling before water cooling.

It's a bit costly, and it's huge, but it's supposed to be very effective and silent:

I figured out that this 8800 NEEDS a conroe to be fully exploited. I go get me one for Chirstmas.

Just upgraded my monitor to this.

Unfortunately, NWN2 runs like crap at 1360 x 768 (even though it looks awesome!) Guess I'm going to have to buy a new system.

How to overclock your Core 2 Duo

In this review they tried to use the same CPU Fan, but those amatuers seemed to have trouble so they decided to do it at a later date. Unless they had the same problem i had when i tried installing my CPU fan which is the manufaturer left a certain kind of screw out of the package which screwed me over for a week.

I need to find a good easily installed fan.

Bokishi, the conroes overclock like CraZy! Its like my old 2.4C all over again!

I just use the Agiea PhysX for Ghost Recon. The 8800 also has a built in "quantum physics" chip so I currently have two different physics processors in my system, doh!

Just got Audigy 4 to use instead of on-board audio. The difference is big, especially with 5.1 sound.

My poor headphones do not handle it too well though. Now waiting for these to arrive:

I had wireless headphones before, but they tend to have a lot of interference and its battery dies at most unsuitable moments.
