Tigranes
It's pretty cool, I'd say it was harder to learn than French, though, thanks to all the verbs conjugating like nouns and all. Gfted1
Holy Crab Nebula! Man the Archimedes mirrors! Not too long ago they did an episode of Myth Busters on those mirrors. While they were able to start a fire on a close (under 100m away), stationary vessel, it was very small and not self sustaining. Cantousent
τιωες - I'm having a hard time finding the root for this word. Is it some form of of τιω? αισχπως - I'm taking this as shame. Once again, I can't seem to find this word, although αισχως is shame or deformity seem close. Also, αισχρως - is shameful or shame-causing. ερριψαν - is just the 3rd person aorist of "to throw or cast" Okay, I'm going to give my best shot at a translation. Be forewarned, however, I'm simply not sure about this translation. "For some generals cast him out shamefully thus to desolation, the wilderness bringing [him?] to an end in sickness. Just as there are also here the necessary weapons [bows] - the weapons of Heracles." Sorry, Tigranes, but that's as good as I can do right now. I can look into it later and get back to you this afternoon. I'm sure there are mistakes in all that. The only question is, do the mistakes actually change the basic meaning? Cantousent
toxa is actually neuter, which means the verb will be singular. Welcome to ancient Greek. Regular verbs can be pretty hard to find. Musopticon?
Is this about Troy? I remember something about Herakles' bow being needed in the Trojan war. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. Tigranes
The paragraph is from Iliad I think. It's where they leave Lemnos and take this guy called Philoktetes nobody likes, cause he has Heracles' bow: then they leave him to rot for a while. Eldar: that was my spelling mistakes, tines not tioes and aiskros not aiskpos. Nevertheless, double-checking with that I seem to have got it now: (For) the generals threw him out shamefully and devastated him thus, and he is wasting away with a fierce disease.
