Krookie Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 Two different versions, two different times, two different prices. http://www.neoseeker.com/news/story/5722/
Haitoku Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 I thought Sony might have learned from Microsoft's mistake... I'm actually a bit temped by the $500 model since I honestly don't have a TV that would take advantage of HDMI... I still don't know though.
Darque Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 I'd have to get the full version, I'm not too keen on getting a stripped down PS3 On the other hand, I don't think any gaming console is worth that... not even a PC.
metadigital Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 From a game development pov, it is still the case that all PS3s will have the use of a hard drive, so this will be able to be incorporated in the design of games. Not a huge problem: the HDMI interface won't cause any development differential, either. All the article is showing is that Sony are bringing out a cheaper model, for those who don't have a new tv and won't be storing lots of (saves of) games on the HD. I would imagine the cheaper version is pegged to compete directly with the Xbox 360. OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
Darth Exile Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 I just don't know why anyone would buy the stripped down version of the PS3 or the 360 when for another hundred dollars you'd get a far superior game system. Think about it if your willing to shell out four hundred dollars for a game system why wouldn't you be willing to shell out five hundred?
Spider Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 (edited) Only the number are five and six respectively (for the PS3). Otherwise I agree. Edited May 14, 2006 by Spider

Hassat Hunter Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 Like buying stuff to make your stripped down version fully functional for gaming ^ I agree that that is such a stupid idiotic pathetic garbage hateful retarded scumbag evil satanic nazi like term ever created. If you can afford $500 for the basic version it shouldn't take that long to save up an extra $100 for the better version.
Deraldin Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 Well, maybe $400 is your life's savings <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If $400 is your life savings then chances are that you've got more important things to spend that money on than a PS3.
Darque Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 I don't think anyone should buy one until the price drops a bit... If Sony wants to compete, they'll have to do so rather quickly.
Arkan Posted May 14, 2006 Posted May 14, 2006 I'm buying one the first day and selling it on ebay for 1000+ bucks. "Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger." - Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials "I have also been slowly coming to the realisation that knowledge and happiness are not necessarily coincident, and quite often mutually exclusive" - meta
Craigboy2 Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Probably a smart move. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Unless the only reason people buy the 20gig is becuase the 60gig is sold out. That's what my friend had to do with the 360. "Your total disregard for the law and human decency both disgusts me and touches my heart. Bless you, sir." "Soilent Green is people. Deraldin Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 I'm buying one the first day and selling it on ebay for 1000+ bucks. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I've been considering that actually... " I can afford several of them right now. Let's say $400 profit on each of them, that should be a good start on my university fund...

Unless of course you are some punk kid sponging off your parents.
karka Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 If the stripped down version is fully upgradeable then there is no problem.
