sucky

I thought Sony might have learned from Microsoft's mistake...

I'm actually a bit temped by the $500 model since I honestly don't have a TV that would take advantage of HDMI... I still don't know though.

I'd have to get the full version, I'm not too keen on getting a stripped down PS3 >_<

On the other hand, I don't think any gaming console is worth that... not even a PC.

From a game development pov, it is still the case that all PS3s will have the use of a hard drive, so this will be able to be incorporated in the design of games.

Not a huge problem: the HDMI interface won't cause any development differential, either.

All the article is showing is that Sony are bringing out a cheaper model, for those who don't have a new tv and won't be storing lots of (saves of) games on the HD.

I would imagine the cheaper version is pegged to compete directly with the Xbox 360.

OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT

I just don't know why anyone would buy the stripped down version of the PS3 or the 360 when for another hundred dollars you'd get a far superior game system. Think about it if your willing to shell out four hundred dollars for a game system why wouldn't you be willing to shell out five hundred?

Only the number are five and six respectively (for the PS3). Otherwise I agree.

Because some of us need the other $100 for more important things.

Then why not wait until you can afford the better version? If you can afford $500 for the basic version it shouldn't take that long to save up an extra $100 for the better version.

Well, maybe $400 is your life's savings

Well, maybe $400 is your life's savings

If $400 is your life savings then chances are that you've got more important things to spend that money on than a PS3.

I don't think anyone should buy one until the price drops a bit...

If Sony wants to compete, they'll have to do so rather quickly.

I'm buying one the first day and selling it on ebay for 1000+ bucks.

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

Probably a smart move.

Probably a smart move.

Unless the only reason people buy the 20gig is becuase the 60gig is sold out. That's what my friend had to do with the 360.

I've been considering that actually... :-" I can afford several of them right now. Let's say $400 profit on each of them, that should be a good start on my university fund...

If $400 is your life savings, it's unlikely you have either a console or a computer. Unless of course you are some punk kid sponging off your parents.

If the stripped down version is fully upgradeable then there is no problem.
