April 21, 200619 yr Hmm, PC games have pretty much been around 40 to 60 CDN in Montreal. Maybe 10 bucks more for a console title. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)

April 21, 200619 yr Some games may come out around $50. A $40 release is VERY uncommon. Dreamfall will be here. Most cost about $50 here, but with the shop where I buy I get 10-12% reduction... About 0.7 Damn, I got to move to Canada. Some other Canadians (on another forum) claimed though that the prices were almost the same though (also around $50)... ^ I agree that that is such a stupid idiotic pathetic garbage hateful retarded scumbag evil satanic nazi like term ever created. April 21, 200619 yr The nice thing is that prices are usually about equal to the ones south of the border, even before conversion rates. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
April 21, 200619 yr Damn money exchanges and using the same goddamn symbol. Grrr... $50 USD has been the staple release price for a game for years. Edited April 21, 200619 yr by Judge Hades
April 22, 200619 yr Still, 10 bucks more per game. Doesn't make me a happy gamer... I find 50 bucks (for a brand new PC-game) too much already anyways... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In this era of consoles going online, why don't they just make the games downloadable? No more distributors = lower costs.
April 22, 200619 yr SONY OFFERS PEEK AT PS3PS3 WITH HARD DRIVE/FREE ONLINE IN NOVEMBER ...the PlayStation 3 will only use Blue-ray discs (and will be free from region encoding), because DVDs are too easy to copy... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Will if blue-ray becomes big(You know, if it becomes standard on almost everything) than it would be even easier becuase you could download the game from someone in Russia. Still, 10 bucks more per game. Doesn't make me a happy gamer... April 22, 200619 yr Yes, because if I format my harddrive, then Steam won't let me download Half-Life 2 again ... oh, wait, yes it will! OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
April 23, 200619 yr Exactly. I typically like to get the extras with the boxed copy, but I've yet to be burned with digital download not letting me play after a reformat.
April 23, 200619 yr What about if you break or lose your CDs? (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
April 23, 200619 yr Heh, oddly enough, I've never really thought of that argument when defending digital distribution. I'm usually focusing on dispelling the myths about the bad things about digital distribution rather than making counter arguments against the CD.
April 23, 200619 yr Author What about if you break or lose your CDs? #1) If you break them, then accept your losses and stick them in a junky microwave that you reserved for this occasion. Turn on microwave and watch the fireworks. #2) If you lose them, then accept your losses and put yourself in a large microwave which you reserved for this occasion. Oh, and don't forget to turn on the microwave, or have your good buddy do it for you, since you'll be inside it. #3) Or, make a copy of your Cd before #1 or #2 can occur. If Blu-ray or whatever you want as a copy is unable to be copied, follow the advice after "then" of #2 above. Edited April 23, 200619 yr by Blank
April 23, 200619 yr Becuase I like to be able to hold the disk, it's the same reason why I don't buy games on line for my PC. If my computer crashes I don't loss all my games with it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> They could register whoever paid for the game so those machines would be able to download it again, with no costs. And I'm not saying this would totally cancel out disc distribution. Just that it would be an alternative for people not willing to spend that much money on their games. You can't deny that one day this will be the way to purchase games though. Just like iTunes is taking over cd's. Distributors best start finding other jobs.

April 23, 200619 yr That'd be the main strike against CURRENT digital distribution. The costs haven't gone down significantly yet to compensate for the removal of the physical product. As it becomes a more popular method of distribution, though, we shall see. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)

April 24, 200619 yr That'd be the main strike against CURRENT digital distribution. The costs haven't gone down significantly yet to compensate for the removal of the physical product. As it becomes a more popular method of distribution, though, we shall see. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think this has a lot to do with digital distribution still being quite insignificant. But, it should make Battlewookie happy because it means more margin on the sale, which means more money for the developer.
April 24, 200619 yr That's one of the main benefits. I'd rather know that my money is mostly going to supporting the devs directly than have some stinking manual I'll barely read. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
April 24, 200619 yr You can shove it up your nose. Oh, and bypassing the CD check without using some 'patch' is nice, too. (Approved by Fio, so feel free to use it)
