Kaftan Barlast Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 I dont care if I get it or not, Ill gladly jump at any chance I get to spew forth bitter complaints When I read the thread title the first band to come to mind was U2... which wasn't on that list. I totally agree with Audioslave and Coldplay though. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I was so sure U2 would number one on that list... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The thing with U2 is that theyre not even worth complaining about. Theyre the kind of band that people who dont really like music listen to. thepixiesrock Posted April 9, 2006 Author Posted April 9, 2006 Yeah, you would. Lou Gutman, P.I.- It's like I'm not even trying anymore!http://theatomicdanger.iforumer.com/index....theatomicdangerOne billion b-balls dribbling simultaneously throughout the galaxy. One trillion b-balls being slam dunked through a hoop throughout the galaxy. I can feel every single b-ball that has ever existed at my fingertips. I can feel their collective knowledge channeling through my viens. Every jumpshot, every rebound and three-pointer, every layup, dunk, and free throw. I am there.
Meshugger Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 None of those bands are in the vein of "10 million copies of each album sold". It seems that he's more on about how much they're hyped within the media. What would the music sound like?" I wouldn't know because I wouldn't listen to it. They tried that **** in the seventies, and do you know what happened to the seventies? The eighties, that's what. Meshugger Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 Over-rated. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Heh, most of those bands aren't rated enough to pass the "over-rated" barrier "Some men see things as they are and say why?""I dream things that never were and say why not?"- George Bernard Shaw"Hope in reality is the worst of all evils because it prolongs the torments of man."- Friedrich Nietzsche "The amount of energy necessary to refute bull**** is an order of magnitude bigger than to produce it." - Some guy

Baley Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 (edited) Do critics actually rave about dweebs like Nickelback? Anyway, Radiohead and The Mars Volta, I suppose those are the most over-rated bands of our time. And I really do hate pointing this out, but one doesn't have to be a professional critic to rate(under or over, depending on personal preference) a certain something. We do it all the time. Now, of course, one can always claim something to be overrated from a particular point of view or cultural perspective. Take the music snobs (and I mean that as a compliment) on these boards, the Pixies are clearly overrated among the members of this peculiar circle, obviously from my personal perspective. Surreptishus Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 When we talk about over rating, whose rating are we considering? The discerning press critic, the man on the street, the pop radio DJ, the bitter and jaded genre fan or somebody else?
Baley Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 The Mainstream Music Magazines, or so Lou has led me to believe.
thepixiesrock Posted April 9, 2006 Author Posted April 9, 2006 I believe as someone already pointed out, Mr. Cheese is going by mostly media rating. thepixiesrock Posted April 9, 2006 Author Posted April 9, 2006 I just want to clarify that I'm not involved in your guys' discussion of overrated music. I only linked the article that I found funny at parts, and then found funny when people started a serious discussion about it. Baley Posted April 9, 2006 Posted April 9, 2006 (edited) So who do you believe to be the most overrated band from a critical point of view? (MMM-wise) Edited April 9, 2006 by Baley
