No video card, therefore no Oblivion for me for a while. Not enough over time at work and too many bills to pay.

One billion b-balls dribbling simultaneously throughout the galaxy. One trillion b-balls being slam dunked through a hoop throughout the galaxy. I can feel every single b-ball that has ever existed at my fingertips. I can feel their collective knowledge channeling through my viens. Every jumpshot, every rebound and three-pointer, every layup, dunk, and free throw. I am there.

I have to disable my current card before I install this one. Is a graphics controller the same thing as a graphics card?

Uninstall the oldgraphics drivers, install the new card, install the drivers for the new card. Than it should be up and working.

Ok, so I'm

"System properties"

"device manager"

"Display adapters"

"Intel® 82810E Graphics Controller"

I have the option to remove that, is that what I'm supposed to remove?

No, it's impossible to remove, just right click and disable it. And you should be ready to put the new card in. And you already verified that your PC has an AGP slot, correct?

Posted

No...

****. You need to tell me that before. You just said to get an AGP card.

I thought I told you to get a PCI card :(

Ok heres waht you do, don't open the video card packaging yet open your comp and see if there is a brown AGP slot in there. If not, then exchange the card for a PCI version.

I already opened the box, Bok.

Yeah, and that comes in PCI and AGP. Before you get a card you need to first determine what slots your motherboard has. Also you will need to now the wattage of your PSU. If you get a card that exceeds the wattage you will have problems because there won't be enough juice to power your system.

It's a Dell.

You're screwed.

My suggestion is to ditch Dell and get a cheap E Machine with a PCI E slot. They are easily upgradable and durable.

Well, Walmart only had AGP, so I didn't know any better.

I doubt pixie can get a new comp atm, all he wants is to play freelancer. Pixie, try exchanging the card for a recent PCI video card. The Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 PCI, or Radeon 9200 PCI should work perfectly in your Dell. I know it's a pain in the ass, but I've dealt with having to return parts too.

So what, is it not supposed to be Dell compatable or something? I don't know the model number.

Dell motherboards are quirky. Such as a friend of mine got himself a brand new X1600 video card PCI-E for his Dell. Got a new PSU to handle it to, but the motherboard wouldn't take it. It had a PCI E slot, the right power requirements, but just wouldn't accept the card. So he had to take everything back and got a x800 instead which by some miracle worked on his Dell.

Here is a few words of advice for upgrading. First, don't try to upgrade a Dell. Its more of a pain than it is worth. Just deal with the fact you made a bad purchase and move on. Secondly, get a computer that has room for upgrades. PCI E slot is required for new video cards. Lastly, know your system. Know the model number. Know its internal layout. Know what it can and cannot do.

Without this knowledge you will always make poor purchasing decisions when it comes to your PC.
