April 2, 200619 yr I have another computer but that one is the media computer, used for playing movies and music most of the time. It is not a game machine with it's ATI All in Wonder card. Hades was the life of the party. RIP You'll be missed.
April 2, 200619 yr Probably been said before, but when you do get a card, make sure it's a Geforce 6xxx or above and don't bother with an ATI card below the new X1xxx line as they don't have shader 3.0, which is what all the new games are capitalizing on. And, if at all possible, think about getting a good-for-the-price motherboard with a PCI-E slot, then purchase a card accordingly. Best to save up and buy the motherboard first, then save up again and get the best card you can reasonably afford. These latest cards should last you a couple years or more so why not? April 2, 200619 yr What I see on the 7x series of cards are PCI Express and no AGP. April 2, 200619 yr Well I think it's because AGP is kinda dead. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> But as they keep overclocking these cards its obvious to see that the AGP8X still has potential that hasn't been used up. It supports 20 pipelines and its been overclocked, then re overclocked and the benchmarks are still improved. Plus why couldn't APG be compatible with Direct X10? April 3, 200619 yr While there are enough people out there with AGP motherboards, the companies will make video cards for them. What's next is dual video cards (and dual video chips on one card, in pairs to make quad). That requires PCI-E, but even so PCI-E 8x bus is amply sufficient: the PCI-E 16x channel isn't even being utilized enough to warant it (at the moment): it is just future tech, so far. Dual/quad video card power is ONLY an advantage on larger resolutions. There is NO benefit for 800x600, say, the card(s) would just idle (and be throttled by the CPU). The monitor needs to be displaying something like the new widescreen WSXGA (1680x1024, or 1024 progressive) and WUXGA (1920 x 1200, or 1200 progressive).
