LoneWolf16 Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 I thought Gamespy and IGN did too. I had thought that some of nature's journeymen had made men and not made them well, for they imitated humanity so abominably. - Book of Counted Sorrows 'Cause I won't know the man that kills me and I don't know these men I kill but we all wind up on the same side 'cause ain't none of us doin' god's will. - Everlast
alanschu Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 (edited) Using pause in a CRPG is metagaming. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In that case, every turn based CRPG employees extensive metagaming. Though I'm sure you have had no problems employing this tactic.... Edited March 6, 2006 by alanschu
6 Foot Invisible Rabbit Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 No, because the rules of the game includes Turn base as a part of is rules system therefore not metagaming. Harvey
alanschu Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 (edited) While you are waiting, the game is paused. By your definition, it's metagaming. Edited March 6, 2006 by alanschu
6 Foot Invisible Rabbit Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 No, because turn base is part of the rules set. Pause is outside the rules set. Harvey
alanschu Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Then I guess a real time iteration is metagaming....it's not part of the rules either. http://www.answers.com/topic/pause Seems like the action is stopped while waiting for you to do your thing. The great thing is that you could spend about 27 hours determining what to do for your next turn, just like real life!
6 Foot Invisible Rabbit Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Normally I take a lot less time however the PS 1 often took that much time on its turn while playing X Com: UFO Defense. Harvey
Shadowstrider Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 (edited) I've heard some of those places consisting of Official Xbox Magazine <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oblivion has been met by praises from sources across all spectrums, including OXM, yes. We've also been told it has recieved "the highest marks for any game we've ever rated" by many of the reviewers, even some who disliked Morrowind. Edited March 6, 2006 by Shadowstrider
Lare Kikkeli Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 so it'll be one of those games that most people love but the boardmembers here hate. and that's like, what, 95% of all games?
6 Foot Invisible Rabbit Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Well, most of the board members here are "expert" gamers and are the creme of the crop compared to the mainstream gluttons who wouldn't know a quality game even if it bit them in the eye socket. Most mainstreamers only look at the candy of a game while most of us here look at the substance, the meat of the game. Of course we also differ on opinion on what is good and what isn't. I plan on getting Oblivion and give it a good run through once I get myself a computer that can run it. After all, who can say no to Patrick Stewart. Harvey

Then again, I'm one of the weird people who like or dislike games based on what IS there, rather than what is not.
6 Foot Invisible Rabbit Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 (edited) I take a look at both what is there and what should be there. Edited March 6, 2006 by 6 Foot Invisible Rabbit Harvey

6 Foot Invisible Rabbit Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Me? I am no expert. I just know what I like and what I don't like. The experts I am refering to are Shadow Paladin, ShadowStrider, Mreku, Battlecookie, and the likes. I am just a kook that no one should listen to. Harvey

Calling the group here "expert" gamers is hee-haw-larious. There is no such thing as "expert" gamers. People like what they like and dislike what they dislike. It is next to impossible to reason with anyone on a subject of what they like or do not like, you are the epitome of this, well you and Volourn, and most the other eThugs around here.
karka Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 So, don't they know what they like and what they don't like?

Oh, wait, I am. I meant it would be like saying I'm an expert gamer. Crap. Lare Kikkeli Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 flattery will get you everywhere. you get the brown-noser perk.
6 Foot Invisible Rabbit Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 (edited) Hardly brown nosing. I simply recognize people who have more experience in such matters than myself. One of the reasons I consider Shadowstrider an expert is that he is actually employed by a computer game company, Bethesda. Of course, you might be ignorant of that fact. Edited March 6, 2006 by 6 Foot Invisible Rabbit Harvey
Lare Kikkeli Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 nah i was aware of it. not sure which company, though.
thepixiesrock Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Is he another alternate? 6 Foot Invisible Rabbit Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 That just means I am a bigger nerd than you. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You still haven't answered this question I have for Oblivion, SS. Of course it kind of got buried by the Fallout discussion. Does Oblivion conversation system like Morrowind or is it like NWN/KotOR? Or is it something completely different? Harvey
