Taken From Wikipedia:

Darth Nihilus came to learn the very greatest of the Sith teachings, however, little is known of Nihilus's true beginnings, some believe him to be a survivor of the Mandalorian Wars, and might have been at one point a prisoner of the Mandalorians. After the war he was found by Darth Traya to be Force-sensitive, and she began training him in the ways of the Sith at the Trayus Academy on Malachor V.

Through a vision Traya shares with the player, it is revealed that after his true powers and potential were realized, Nihilus, along with fellow Sith student Darth Sion, plotted and turned against their dark mistress. They cast Traya down, stripped her of her power, and expelled her from the Sith Order. Their reason for doing this was because Traya insisted on fighting a "shadow war" against the Jedi, as she tells the Jedi Exile. Nihilus and Sion preferred a direct, much less subtle approach. Nihilus chose to destroy the Force-sensitive planet of Katarr (and much of the remaining Jedi Order with it); Sion chose to lead his sect of Assassins in destroying the remaining Jedi.

Darth Nihilus ravaged and consumed whole worlds to feed his insatiable appetite for power. This was conducted from the bridge of his flagship, the Ravager, which appears as a playable location later in the game. Nihilus's powers were so all-consuming that all those who came into contact with the Sith Lord became slaves, mindless servants to his will, as seen in the crew of the Ravager when the player comes across the ship.

One such servant of Nihilus was Visas Marr, a Miraluka female from Katarr, a planet consumed and destroyed by Nihilus. The Sith Lord sent Visas on a mission to find and bring the last of the Jedi before him, so that he could consume his power and essence. But this would be the mighty Sith Lord's undoing - the Jedi Exile broke her from Nihilus's bonds after she boarded his ship, the Ebon Hawk, and she subsequently turned against her former master.

Nihilus was informed of hundreds of Jedi on the planet Telos. Setting his fleet out to the planet, Nihilus was surprised when he found out that no "Jedi" were on the planet. His ship was subsequently invaded, and on the bridge of the Ravager, Nihilus attempted to absorb the Exile's Force energies, only to weaken himself, possibly because the Exile was a void in the Force, much like himself. The Exile, together with Mandalore Canderous Ordo and Visas, defeated the Sith Lord on board the bridge of the Ravager. After his death, his body dissolved in an aura of dark side energies. Visas also gives the player the chance to take the Sith Lord's mask after he is defeated.

What happened to Nihilus after his body dissolved is unknown. Whether he is truly gone shall remain a mystery. Interestingly, his true identity is not revealed even when Visas looks at his face after his defeat, leaving questions about whether his previous personality may have been anyone of consequence. Visas, being able to see the world solely through the Force, merely says when she looks upon him that she sees a thousand graveyard planets and an eternity of hate and hunger. It is interesting to note, however, that depending on what path the player character chooses, when Visas looks upon the Sith Lord, she says she sees "Just a man, nothing more."

Like most of the Sith Lords, Darth Nihilus's name has some meaning (nihil is Latin for nothing). He has no loyalties to anyone but himself, and will consume both Sith and Jedi with his hunger, which notes that his name fits his current personality quite well.

It should be noted that Nihilus never speaks a clear word in the game, he simply emits patterns of sounds. Though what Nihilus is saying is never revealed, it seems Visas can understand him and talk to him in Basic. Nihilus's pattern of speech is similar to the sounds that the Sith Holocrons made in the library on Telos, though whether this is intentional or not is not revealed. It is possible that both speech patterns (that of Nihilus and that of the Sith Holocrons) are dialects of the native language of the Sith species on Korriban.

yeah i read those articles, i kinda disliked the way the draw him as a nit, i personally think he's very important to the game - in a way.

Nihilus Mask description

You have taken this trophy from the remains of Darth Nihilus - it is the last surviving piece of the beast who died and was reborn in the shattered world of Malachor V. By taking it from him, you have gained a stronger tie to the Force.

FYI, wikipedia is user-supported, meaning that any of us could write ANYTHING on it-therefore, the info on there is no more reliable than the speculation we have on this forum.

I 2ed that! >_<

sadly LA doesn't even know K2 exists

No, they just act like it doesn't exist.

And shepherds we shall be,

for Thee, my Lord, for Thee.

Power hath descended forth from Thy hand,

that our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command.

So we shall flow a river forth unto Thee,

and teeming with souls shall it ever be,

In Nomine Patris, et Fili, et Spiritus Sancti.

strange, they seem to always keep strictly on stated facts, always using words such as "speculation" or "it is possible that" when required.

however: (this is from the game, one o those tips you get when you load/save a game)

The Ravager was hauled from the gravity well at Malachor V by its new master. He used it to escape imprisonment on Malachor V.

I've encountered MANY wikipedia articles with incorrect info...

I second that.

the fact that he was a mandalorian prisoner on Malachor V is never said in the game but you can learn that from the quotation in my last post (prisoner of who else?)

I have checked the entire dialog.tlk file searching for both "prisoner" and "Nihilus". Not once did this lead me to information that would support that Nihilus was ever a prisoner of the Mandalorians. Wherever that piece of information came from, it is not in the game.

Well, there is the theorie he is "the force part" of the Exile after activating the Shadow Generator, and thus was trapped there on Malachor V because he was born there...

And what holded him, Kreia/Revan/himself... who knows?

Well, as Kreia points out, Malachor V is an unusual place with special connections to the dark side of the force.

Kreia: "There is a place in the galaxy where the dark side of the Force runs strong. It is something of the Sith, but it was fueled by war. It corrupts all that walks on its surface, drowns them in the power of the dark side - it corrupts all life. And it feeds on death. Revan knew the power of such places... and the power in making them. They can be used to break the will of others... of Jedi, promising them power, and turning them to the dark side. Did you never wonder how Revan corrupted so many of the Jedi, so much of the Republic, so quickly? The Mandalorian Wars were a series of massacres that masked another war, a war of conversion.Culminating a final atrocity that no Jedi could walk away from..."

It seems to me that it is the corruption Revan subjected the jedi to on Malachor V and the strange powers of the place gave birth to Nihilus.

It is also clear that this has direct ties to the Exile. Note what the masters say, when you return to the enclave on Dantooine:

"The last Jedi conclave was on Katarr, a Miraluka colony. And all of Katarr was destroyed, all of the Jedi killed...Including Master Zhar... Master Vandar... A Jedi doesn't care if he dies. Everyone does, but when we fight, when we sacrifice ourselves, it is for others, for the greater good. But our presence must not endanger others. And as long as we were visible targets, we were a threat to everything around us.There was a gathering of Jedi on the planet - when we realized that something was attacking us, we resolved to meet secretly to attempt to find this threat.Then... Katarr was no more. When we felt Katarr die, there is something we felt, something we'd felt once before. An echo in the Force. We'd felt it before when you stood before us. Whatever this threat, whatever this hunger is, it is something tied to you, something you have experienced directly. This echo travels in the places where death has walked, where planets have died. Massacres fuel its power, the death of life fuels it."

Before you dismiss this as just a consequence of both the Exile and Nihilus being on Malachor V at the time, note the following, which is also said by the masters during the enclave meeting:

"The Sith are a threat, it is true. But the threat they present... it is tied to you in some way. The echo we have felt on the worlds we have walked - we have encountered it only once before, when you stood before us at your trial. We believe that somehow, you are creating this - or that the Sith have learned this technique from you."

I have checked the entire dialog.tlk
string reference: 125606

i got that line on Nihilus'ship while saving a game.

Well, there is the theorie he is "the force part" of the Exile after activating the Shadow Generator, and thus was trapped there on Malachor V because he was born there... And what holded him, Kreia/Revan/himself... who knows?
that line says "He used it to escape imprisonment on Malachor V", they were fighting mandalorians, i fail to see sense in him being prisoner of other than them. i mean nothing could lead us to believe otherwise so why say that that "imprisonment" is not referred to the Mandalorians? also, Kreia says that they are spawned from the horrors of the mandalorian wars, she also says that the Exile tought them to bond with others and feed on those connections, the pinnacle of that ability is what Nihilus does (and what the ds Exile learns), it is also said that it is something learned by experiencing its effects first hand - from all this - how can you say he was born on Malachor? you can't. as i understand it, Sion and Nihilus were jedi (hardly could they be republic soldiers or mandalorians), survivors. Sion says he fought on Dxun and Malachor and Korriban, of Nihilus all we can gather is just that he was a prisoner on Malachor and he learned to bond with others from the Exile, and that in some way he "died and was reborn in the shattered world of Malachor V" (became Nihilus on Malachor) then took the Ravager for himself and fled, eventually he would return to Malachor.

Visas- I think he is of that place. If so, then his power may be great indeed... greater than I had thought.

here Visas is making a supposition, and since she doesn't know anything about him, or Malachor, or Trayus Accademy, the only thing she could suppose is that he was a survivor of that final battle of which she heard "tales".

But if he was "born" after the use of the MSG then there wouldn't be Mandalorians left in the Republic. Atleast not big enough to settle a planet, right? Besides that there never was a Mandalorian Force on Malachor V, or have you seen on a single place hints that they stationed there instead of just fighting the final battle?
