yet nazism is based on socialist economics, not fascist, which is what is considered right-wing... i suppose left-wing economics and right-wing politics?

 

the thing that is odd, or at least not widely discussed, is that all extreme positions (er, left or right) are collectivist and essentially boil down to the same concept with different window dressing. sort of like having a circle, and no matter which way you go, left or right (cw or ccw), you meet in the middle on the other side!

His sentance is fair. law is law. If its aganst the law don't do it. Simple.

At least in theory Communism makes alittle sense everybody works hard everybody gets paid good. but put into play a&&holes take advantage and it turns out that poor people work hard rich people get paid. and i am by no means a communist. I don't really see a point in choosing wether im right or left if when it comes to voting day I still have to choose from the lesser evil.

huh, Jedi? What are you on about? If it were against the law to teach the theory of evolution, would it be a just law? What if the law stipulated that killing Jews... or Christians... or Hispanics... or atheists was perfectly legal? Would that be a just law?

 

I don't have a problem as such with the anti-nazi law, but it is the first step in taking away the right of free speech. I don't know that they'll take another step in that direction or not, but it is a step, nonetheless. Just as the famous case of making it illegal to yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater is also a step in taking away free speech. The truth is, we don't have universally free speech. The question, therefore, revolves around what speech should be curtailed and what should be free. Just saying it's the law of the land amounts to saying that a law is good because it's the law. Under that rule, slavery is perfectly just because it was the law. Slavery, however, is not just, regardless of what the law says.

 

Then, of course, we have this argument about communism. Communism, as proposed by actual Communists, is a truly odious system. If the folks here who post were forced to live in a truly Marxist system, they'd be quite unhappy. They'd also be quite enraged at the conditions in which they'd be forced to live.

 

That's not the worst thing about Communism, though. What is truly evil about the system is that the very idea lulls fools into thinking it would work. Those same fools will say something to the effect of, "Communism is great in theory, too bad people suck." How about this, if your theoretical system cannot work in practice, it's the theorectical system that's flawed, not the people. Mercantilism worked. it sucked, but it worked. Capitalism works. It's not the utopia everyone demands, but it works. Swedish socialism, such as it is, works. It's reliant on a whole slew of other factors, but it works. Communism? Ask the Soviet Union about that. Actually, ask the Chinese. They've got a communist system that works... because it's a capitalist system under a communist government.

I thought the Soviets were only at early stages of socialism but certainly not communism since true communism abolishes the government. I always thought that the reason why the philosophy of pure commuism could never work is because that it voids the meaning behind our choices in life as they yield the same results.

Apparently, a thief, convicted of possessing and fencing stolen property, was given two additional months of prison time for having the nazi oath on his answering machine.  What do you think?

That's my point. It's impossible to create a fully funcitoning communist system. Someone posted somewhere that communism won't work as long as someone wanted more than his neighbor, to which I respond, communism won't work as long as someone wants anything better. If someone wants to provide the best for his wife and children, he is the enemy of communism. It assumes characteristics about humanity that don't exist. The "it's a great idea but just hasn't been done right" idea is a lie. A stinking lie.

 

Give me some more rum and I'm likely to tell you how I really fell about the subject.
