WinterSun, we have this thing called the internet, pretty much anything can be found there, especially porn.

But also Bibles.

Umm bible or porn, bible or porn, bible or porn... :-

The names are not what you would call typical for the region anyway. Andrew is a Greek name.

I have to agree with Volourn.  Bioware is pretty much dead now.  Deals like this kills development studios.

Dude, of all the quibbles I have with the Bible this would have to be nonexistent.

It's like a guy in America having an English name rather than a Native American name. Please Potent, study your history before saying such silly things.

Porn's a lot more interesting than what I just read.

BTW why does matthew 26:26 say the same as mark 14:22?

You'n Kevin Smith Lucius.

I think he raises some interesting points, imagine the Christian right wing if they found out that God was female and Christ black. I'd go get myself a truck load of popcorn ffs.

God would have to be a hermaphrodite.

Wouldnt be the first time an authors picked an easier name to spell.

It certainly wouldnt be blinked at today. But people got around a lot less 2000 years ago.

I would actually enjoy those arguments, but I think that God if anything is sexless and Jesus was of course not white, but kind of a brownish colour (not black either though).

Greek was the language of the day back then dude (New Testament was written in it). Lots of Romans and other Gentiles moving about the Mediterranean, there would be nothing unusual with someone in that area having a Greecian name.

By all means pick out things that you have a valid reason to think are wrong with the Bible, but don't pick out stupid stuff like this, it makes people take valid arguments less seriously because they see you have a serious bias going.

Well unless he some sort of divine sun protector, he'd be a sort of nutty brown colour.

I dont think it's stupid :-

Especially if you are looking for parelels with eariler texts.

Remember the Romans ? They changed the names of an entire pantheon to better suit their purposes.

I think it's very stupid. It's not like the names matter. Up north here; Paul is Paavali, for example.

I agree. Language and culture vary over different regions. I think it's quite possible that occasionally more common names were used instead of the original but ancient or strange names that nobody around would understand.

Yes exactly.

Although I dont see why anyone would find that stupid.

they are the same to show consistency... i.e. that it's not made up.

Yeah, they stole their Gods from the Greeks, because the Gods they had before that were sort of crap Gods ... like "Jeff, the God of Biscuits," and "Simon, the God of Hair-dos..."

Come to think of it I dont remember any of the prior Roman gods. They were always combining gods and making new ones though.

Sulis Minerva of Bath Springs is a melding of Minerva and the old Celtic deity which was venerated at the spring.

You really hurt your argument when you don't even tell it properly.

They're the same because all four of the Gospels are the same story told from the perspective of four different Disciples.

That would be a bit like saying just because all of Bram Stokers characters diary entries corrolate that is evidence for Vampires existing.

Pretty much yeah.

Check Jon Stewart out in this clip after that right wing nut attacked him in his show, secular central! :p

DENMARK!

It appears that I have not yet found a sig to replace the one about me not being banned... interesting.

It's kind of funny. We live in a country with a patron saint (remarkably similiar to Merlin btw). And we have a state religion, but we are still not anywhere near as radical as the yanks. I guess it's just a laid back society and since everyone is used to the very small c that goes along with the partying and the debauchery as well as the presents, no one really pays it much attention.

Heck if I had to work I'd lobby for all religious holidays to be nationalised, so I could get as much extra time off as possible :D

Yeah, nowadays in the UK most interaction of religion with the state is more ceremonial than anything. Plus, since we don't have complete religious nutcases elbowing their way into everyone's lives, no one really seems to give a damn about the phrase "merry christmas".

That clip got me thinking, though. That song, "We wish you a merry christmas", interpreting it literally, isn't it a song that should be sung by non-christians? After all, the singers are bringing good tidings to your king, not theirs. :(
