SteveThaiBinh Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 Will petrol prices ever fall? Briefly, probably, but the trend is ever upwards, surely. With China and India developing and demanding more, and the OPEC countries and Russia already near full pumping capacity, the market will set a high price. Many European countries have set petrol prices artificially high with 'green' taxes in order to discourage consumption - I wonder if they will now reduce the tax burden. The US seems to have been very slow in getting fuel-efficiency going, but that means there's a lot of scope for improvement and cost savings in the coming years. Perhaps it's not quite as bad as people think. "An electric puddle is not what I need right now." (Nina Kalenkov)
metadigital Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 Boy, you guys have a lot to learn about rip-off prices. To purchase a monthly train ticket from the commuter belt of "Greater London" (which incorporates the Home Counties), it is upwards of OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
Walsingham Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 Meta is ban on. One reason for us being weenies about your gas (petrol) price obsession is that we pay a gazillion more per gallon, AND any conurbation larger than a village has Manhattan style traffic problems. This is why I almost always walk. On the occasions where I must go by train I budget for gifts when I am late. "It wasn't lies. Judge Hades Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 I can't wait for $11 a gallon here in the US. In Georgia it reached $6 a gallon. Here's hoping! It is about time that the US pays through the nose for its over use and over dependence on fossil fuels.
kumquatq3 Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 Fuel economy hasn't been a prioity with american cars, look at hummers that get a wopping 8mi. per gallon highway. The worse thing is that owning a small fuel efficent car here, is basically like taking your life into your hands, because if you're in an accident, most likely its going to be some housewife in her giant SUV who didn't see you because she was on her cellphone. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> As a motorcyclist, that is both funny and very very true. I am convinced I will be turned to paste by a Daisy Yellow Hummer 2 (H2) which is driven by a soccer mom on a cell phone. I'm sure the kids watching a DVD in the back seat won't even notice a single skip.
metadigital Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 Mexico has cheaper petrol, doesn't it? I remember reading about the joggers of Mexico city who were doing the smog-clouded city a favour, by literally sponging up the polution in their lungs like mobile air filters. Something like 100% chance to catch lung cancer over five years. OBSCVRVM PER OBSCVRIVS ET IGNOTVM PER IGNOTIVS OPVS ARTIFICEM PROBAT
