Blarghagh Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Here is a song I ended up not liking much at first but loving now. It's by the band 'Disturbed' which most of you will probably write off as stupid angsty nu metal, but hey, angst is good for the soul. It's from their new album, Ten Thousand Fists, and is called Overburdened. It's a song about the soldiers that died fighting for a wrong cause. It really surprised me how much their new album is more like rock than metal, and that they forsook most electronic crap. Nice to see that some bands see the light, even if ever so slightly. I'm looking forward to their next offering. "Hell is still overburdened I must stand and wait in line I may never know for certain when will be my time? How was I considered evil? Pleasures taken in this life. Someone granted me reprieval Decades spent in strife... Chorus: Led to nothing Repeated in my mind Led to nothing If only I was born another time Hell is still overburdened I must stand and wait in line Hell is still overburdened Now have I been living some damned eternal lie? It's the closing of the curtain In the play that was my life Now this chapter's left for open tragedies in time I was fighting for a reason Holy blessed homicide Seems I have committed treason All I've sacrified... Chorus: Led to nothing Repeated in my mind Led to nothing If only I was born another time Hell is still overburdened I must stand and wait in line Hell is still overburdened Now have I been living some damned eternal lie? Hell is still overburdened I must stand and wait in line Hell is still overburdened Now have I been living some damned eternal lie? Bridge: Fate is so unkind. Now I should have known. Blind leading the blind. Reaping all I've sown. If it all amounts to nothing. Why, then, am I staniding in this line? Hell is still overburdened I must stand and wait in line Hell is still overburdened Now have I been living some damned eternal lie? Hell is still overburdened I must stand and wait in line Hell is still overburdened Now have I been living some damned eternal lie?"
Cantousent Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Weird, Neutral, but I like it. Folks talk about teen angst all the time as if older folks don't feel it. Angsty music seems like a nice, healthy way to voice angst anyhow. As always, I wonder how the song would sound if I heard it. On the one hand, I'm curious. On the other hand, if I really like the lyrics, I'm afraid the actual song will disappoint me. Hmm, more lyrics to come later. Darth Launch Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Willy Mason - Oxygen I wanna be better than oxygen So you can breathe when you're drowning and weak in the knees I wanna speak louder than Ritalin For all the children who think that they've got a disease I wanna be cooler than T.V. For all the kids that are wondering what they are going to be We can be stronger than bombs If you're singing along and you know that you really believe We can be richer than industry As long as we know that there's things that we don't really need We can speak louder than ignorance Cause we speak in silence every time our eyes meet. On and on, and on, and on it goes The world it just keeps spinning Until I'm dizzy, time to breathe So close my eyes and start again anew. I wanna see through all the lies of society To the reality, happiness is at stake I wanna hold up my head with dignity Proud of a life where to give means more than to take I want to live beyond the modern mentality Where paper is all that you're really taught to create Do you remember the forgotten America? Justice, equality, freedom to every race? Just need to get past all the lies and hypocrisy Make up and hair to the truth behind every face That look around to all the people you see, How many of them are happy and free? I know it sounds like a dream But it's the only thing that can get me to sleep at night I know it's hard to believe But it's easy to see that something here isn't right I know the future looks dark But it's there that the kids of today must carry the light. On and on, and on, and on it goes The world it just keeps spinning Until I'm dizzy, time to breathe So close my eyes and start again anew. If I'm afraid to catch a dream I weave you baskets and I'll float them down the river stream Each one I weave with words I speak to carry love to your relief. I wanna be better than oxygen So you can breathe when you're drowning and weak in the knees I wanna speak louder than Ritalin For all the children who think that they've got a disease I wanna be cooler than T.V. For all the kids that are wondering what they are going to be We can be stronger than bombs If you're singing along and you know that you really believe We can be richer than industry As long as we know that there's things that we don't really need We can speak louder than ignorance Cause we speak in silence every time our eyes meet. On and on, and on, and on it goes The world it just keeps spinning Until I'm dizzy, time to breathe So close my eyes and start again anew OO-TINI!
Kor Qel Droma Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Del Amitri - Be My Downfall Well the bus is pulling out, and I guess I'd better go Before I make a grave mistake and let my feelings show And twenty miles away she waits alone for me But when I try to picture her you're the one I see And in another situation I could put up a fight But you will be my downfall tonight So the night is coming down, drowning us in blue And it all points towards the things we know we shouldn't do And as I look at you and I fall under your spell Well I know I should be thinking of her lying there herself And when faced with temptation you know a man should stand and fight But you will be my downfall tonight Be my downfall, be my great regret Be the one girl that I'll never forget Be my undoing, be my slow road to ruin... tonight So the bus is pulling out and I'm grounded here with you And I want to say the sweet things babe I've always wanted to So tell me now the tail-lights have gone out of sight Baby won't you be my downfall tonight. Jaguars4ever is still alive. No word of a lie.
EnderAndrew Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Artist: King Missile Song: Detatchable **** Lyrics : I woke up this morning with a bad hangover And my **** was missing again. This happens all the time. It's detachable. This comes in handy a lot of the time. I can leave it home, when I think it's gonna get me in trouble, or I can rent it out, when I don't need it. But now and then I go to a party, get drunk, and the next morning I can't for the life of me remember what I did with it. First I looked around my apartment, and I couldn't find it. So I called up the place where the party was, they hadn't seen it either. I asked them to check the medicine cabinet 'cause for some reason I leave it there sometimes But not this time. So I told them if it pops up to let me know. I called a few people who were at the party, but they were no help either. I was starting to get desperate. I really don't like being without my **** for too long. It makes me feel like less of a man, and I really hate having to sit down every time I take a leak. After a few hours of searching the house, and calling everyone I could think of, I was starting to get very depressed, so I went to the Kiev, and ate breakfast. Then, as I walked down Second Avenue towards St. Mark's Place, where all those people sell used books and other junk on the street, I saw my **** lying on a blanket next to a broken toaster oven. Some guy was selling it. I had to buy it off him. He wanted twenty-two bucks, but I talked him down to seventeen. I took it home, washed it off, and put it back on. I was happy again. Complete. People sometimes tell me I should get it permanently attached, but I don't know. Even though sometimes it's a pain in the ass, I like having a detachable ****. [background voices continue to sing "detachable ****" for a while, then out]

Dark Moth Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 Toby Keith: Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue American girls and American guys will always stand up and salute; Will always recognize When we see ol' glory flying, There's a lot of men dead, So we can sleep in peace at night when we lay down our head. My daddy served in the army, Where he lost his right eye. But he flew a flag out in our yard 'til the day that he died. He wanted my mother, my brother, my sister and me To grow up and live happy in the land of the free. Now this nation that I love has fallen under attack. A mighty sucker punch came flying in from somewhere in the back. Soon as we could see clearly through our big black eye, Man we lit up your world like the Fourth of July. Hey Uncle Sam put your name at the top of his list, And the Statue of Liberty started shaking her fist. And the eagle will fly, And there's gonna be Hell, When you hear Mother Freedom start ringing her bell! It's gonna feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you... Brought to you courtesy of the Red, White and Blue! Oh, Justice will be served and the battle will rage. This big dog will fight when you rattle his cage You'll be sorry that you messed with the US of A 'Cuz we'll put a boot in your ass It's the American way. Hey Uncle Sam put your name at the top of his list, And the Statue of Liberty started shaking her fist. And the eagle will fly, And there's gonna be Hell, When you hear Mother Freedom start ringing her bell! And it'll feel like the whole wide world is raining down on you... Brought to you courtesy of the Red, White and Blue! Of the Red, White and Blue.. Of my Red, White and Blue...

Them Kids wouldn't know angst if it came up and depressed them in the face! Now, if you city folk want some angst, nothin' says depression like a bitter country song about Alcoholism, a broken marriage and loss of will to live! " Brain Damage (live version) - The Waifs I'm goin' out to damage my brain, But you won't come, cause you're gonna stay at home, It's no shame, every night and day, We see each other anyway, you've got to move, You've got to get away, it's a long cold night, But there'll be a better day. Wouldn't you say, Correct me if I'm wrong, we've got all the good reasons for time on our own? You see me all of the time, You see me all of the time, You see me all of the time, and I'm sayin', hey, throw me some line. Well it's him and it's her, It's this and it's that, I can feel my tyres but they're going flat, But there's no get up and go for gettin it on, we've got all the good reasons for time on our own. You see me all of the time, You see me all of the time, You see me all of the time, and I'm sayin', hey, throw me some line. It is my completely subjective opinion that songs in which the singer is meant to be unhappy with his or her life sound far more genuine when played on accoustic guitars. On an electric guitar, depressing songs generally just sound angry and aggressive to me, while a depressing song played loudly on an accoustic guitar sounds bitter, and one played quietly sounds chilling, as if the singer has either lost the will to live or is on the verge of a major homicidal psychotic break. For instance: Last Train - Travis Rain, on the brain, Now there Hawk! Eggplant! AWAKEN!
Cantousent Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 The World I know -- Collective Soul "Has our conscience shown? Has the sweet breeze blown? Has all kindness gone? Hope still lingers on I drink myself of newfound pity Sitting alone in New York City And I don't know why, I don't know why 1-So I walk upon high And I step to the edge To see my world below And I laugh at myself While the tears roll down 'Cause it's the world I know It's the world I know" Are we listening? To hymns of offering? Have we eyes to see? Love that's gathering? All the words that I've been reading Have now started the act of bleeding Into one, into one (repeat 1, 1) Fionavar's Holliday Wishes to all members of our online community: Happy Holidays Join the revelry at the Obsidian Plays channel:Obsidian Plays Remembering tarna, Phosphor, Metadigital, and Visceris. Musopticon? Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 I love Scarborrough Fair. kirottu said: I was raised by polar bears. I had to fight against blood thirsty wolves and rabid penguins to get my food. Those who were too weak to survive were sent to Sweden. It has made me the man I am today. A man who craves furry hentai. So let us go and embrace the rustling smells of unseen worlds
Child of Flame Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 I like The Boxer better, but both are awesome. Scarborough Fair is more interesting on a pure intellectual level, what with the mixing of two different folk songs, and the meanings of the songs in the culture they came from.
Musopticon? Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 You're threading to a territory where I'm practically blind. I had no idea of any of that. Musopticon? Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Thanks.
