War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

Well, I'm Infantry, so I go to OSUT (One Station Unit Training), which includes BCT (another name for boot camp), and then AIT (Advanced Individual Training), where you concentrate on learning your MOS (Military Occupational Specialty). In my case, it is 11X, or Infantry. Then I get assigned to a unit, where I will continually train.

Is there any option to what division you can be asigned to or its a non-optional decision by the infantry?

From what I know, I don't have the option of what unit I get assigned to. I do know that during OSUT we get a wish list where we write down what three bases we would like to be stationed at the most. And I think that what ever base we get stationed at determines who we are assigned to. I personally want to be assigned to the 3rd ID. I heard they are a really good unit.

Will do. But you guys won't hear from me for probably the next 3-4 months. Internet access is a rarity down there during training.
