Hate xbox? Nah. Favor PC over xbox when deciding platform. Yep.

Any rational person would say: at this stage who can tell.

You cant and shouldnt base these consoles on their predecessors.

360 is the only one with anything worth scrutinising and it all looks fantastic.

But i cant count out teh PS3 or revolution cos i dont know what they offer.

So which seems to be the fan favorite on these boards....the new xbox or new playstation?

I'm an xbox fan personally, and I'm pumped that the new xbox will be in 16.9 for our hdtv....

but Im kind of afraid of ur answers because it seems that everyone used ot hate xbox on these boards...

I've got one of each (and likely will have this generation too). I reckon the PS3 is slightly more powerful out of the gate and it's potential is far greater than the 360's. But that dosnt mean I hate the 360.

Since its likely that Obsidian and Bioware will at least start out developing exclusively for the 360 (just a guess) most people will say 360.

I have to agree with Volourn.  Bioware is pretty much dead now.  Deals like this kills development studios.

The graphics thing - people tend to say that every generation "surely the graphics cant get any better!" and yet they do.

But largely i agree with you , its difficult to see what the new horizon to break is in gameplay and to imagine how they will make big improvements in graphics.

but developers will keep pushing the boundaries requiring more space and power and in turn that will necessitate an update in consumer technology.

They may, but it's always been because they doubt technology. Now there isnt much room for the graphics to go because they are almost photorealistic. It's not quite the same scenerio.

There's plenty more to do. First off, there is actualy photoreality. Then we need to add true dynamic lighting, like the process begun with Half-Life 2's The Lost Coast.

Then there is the super-realism, e.g. Matrix-style bullet cam on every object in the visible area.

Then of course, after all that, there will always be the alternate-reality-type interface, like that heralded in such films as Lawnmowerman ...

There is heaps of scope left, after all there is always incorporating dreamscapes into reality (which is what films are aiming to do) in realtime interative mode (which is what video games are trying to do), to the point where we are in a matrix-style technological age.

I agree

also....

am I the only one that is pissed off that Fight Night ROund 3 is on PS3 and not Xbox 360?

Well other people who wont be getting a PS3 might be too. Actually I saw some screenies looks fantastic but those are the sorts of games I rent rather than buy. Dont really hold any long term appeal for me.

Well, seeing as my heavyweight champion Prince Naseem III successfully defended his heavyweight belt for the umpteenth time, I'd say I'm quite ready for Fight Night Round 3 now. But since I'll be getting a PS3, I'm not too worried about it. I don't hate the Xbox 360 in any way, but it seems most of the games I like come to the Playstation first and it's neat to be able to play your old PS2 favourites on your new machine.

I'm thinking a hybrid, like some sort of "Terminator" info HUD whilst your PC walks around the immersive world (all the better if it feels like you are actually in this world, like the Gucci-clad alter egos in the Matrix trilogy).

Therefore you can incorporate tactics, like a RTS, over a FPS, with RPG narrative elements (complex plot interactions and twists).

All of the technology has a well-trodden path to retail production; most of the cool stuff we hear about is still a decade away from general use. (Xerox Palo-Alto laboratories developed the mouse in about 1980 -- along with the Apple Lisa!)

Well of course the PS3 is better than the Xbox.

But the jury is still out for the Xbox 360 ...
