Uh.. So you're saying a 294 MHz CPU, 32 Mb RAM system compared to a 733 MHz CPU, 64 Mb RAM system is the same as comparing a 3 core 3.2 GHz CPU, 512 MB shared RAM system to an 8 core 3.2 GHz CPU, 256 MB dedicated RAM system?

It's called a figure of speech, which is why I clarified the comment with "One will have higher theoretical FLOP performance, and the other will actually run games more efficiently."

But to be anal, "8 core 3.2 ghz CPU" is fairly inaccurate, as only the PPE runs at 3.2ghz, while the SPE's run slower, and rely on the PPE to continually feed them code or they sit idle. Xenon is a symetrical set up, that has all three cores able to run at 3.2ghz independant of each other. Add to that the fact that Xenon was built as a gaming CPU, while Cell was built with workstations in mind.

They are quite different approaches to a CPU set up.

Are you out of your mind? This time around the processors will be equal in MHz and the amount of RAM will be much closer than the last time (depending on the game, since you never know how much RAM will be used by the GPU in the Xbox 360).

It is NOT the same match up.

I'm not out of my mind. The Cell is far less efficient at running standard game code than Xenon is.

The point isn't that I'm using a golf simulator as my only determining factor. It is one factor, as I can compare the same game on two systems. The problem I had was that folks seemed to be saying that the xbox didn't have better graphics. Since I have first hand experience to the contrary, I was dismayed. I usually look to the folks around here as being more or less informed. Sometimes there's more to the story, but the members usually aren't flat out misleading. I was afraid that maybe folks console preferances were getting the better of them.

It should also be noted that Microsoft never released Gigaflop performance ratings of the XBox, so one can't really compare the two. Clock speeds on two completely different architecture CPU's means absolutely nothing.

A 2.0 gHz G5 will trounce a 3.0 gHz Pentium 4.
