Um...I hate Revan...she's a bad person..she took over the mind of my PC

My favorite General though is George S. Patton. He's just another one of those very rare humans.

Personally I've always viewed him as overrated,I've always had a strong dislike for both hima and his tactics...meh Monty was better ;)

And about Alexander-different times=different strategies...

It would be much harder for a general now to lead a charge, then 2300 years ago...

Times have changed,wars have changed....

Alexander has been glorifies..that's my opinion...and IMHO I liked Cezar more as a tactician...

Napoleon was good, but his failer clearly shows his lack of vision(of course I only know a little about Nepoleon).

Yes..the man revolutionised warfare and also one of the greatest tacticianers ever...he had more strategic vision than all of the other generals of his time..some of his battles easely show this...

The man is a legend...

Napoleon failed miserably at WAterloo, while Alexander succedeed at Gaugamela when odds were as bad

HERMOCRATES:

Nur Ab Sal was one such king. He it was, say the wise men of Egypt, who first put men in the colossus, making many freaks

of nature at times when the celestial spheres were well aligned.

SOCRATES:

This I doubt. We are hearing a child's tale.

Monty didn't take risk, that was his problem. And he was slow. Operation Plunder took him 3 weeks to prepare. Patton just takes the 3rd army across the Rine and starts blowing the hell out of crap some days before Monty's plan even takes effect, proving anyone can do it.

Monty probably could have won World War 2, problem is we would probably still be waiting for his attack.

Um please..were also talking about a guy who asaulted his own men...

Risks are not always good, especially when you lose all your men ;)

Risk takers don't always make the best commanders....and Patton was IMHO the worst american commander of the war....

And of course Monty was slow...he cared more about his men than about glory...tho he had some strange plans like Market Garden

Not taking risk can also be the reason for losing a war. Alexander took risk throughout most of his campaigns, and he won every battle.

True Patton didn't like cowards, he hated cowards. Those men he assaulted were cowards to him. Patton was also a tragic soul, who wanted to test himself. His biggest fear was being wounded. So he would test himself by going to see the wounded in medical camps. His staff should have prevented these visits, but they didn't. Many believe that Pattons assualts were the resualt of seeing all those brave soldiers who were actually wounded him battle, and then seeing those who just wished(at least in his mind) to get a free ride. No doubt Patton did some stupid stuff, but like I said he was one of thos Rare souls like Alexander.

There was no reason to be slow in Plunder. Monty had paratroopers, American forces, british forces, heavy artilliary. Patton had the 3rd Army and crossed the ride with only a few men killed. Monty was acting dumb when he didn't need to be. That's why Bradley gave Patton the ok to cross if he had the opportunity. If Patton had been given his chance, he indeed would have taken Berlin. Though we'll never know.

and what you say about Patton being the worst is your opinion(granted this is all about opinion). However Patton is looked at as one of the greatest Generals of the War. His break out of France, and his other exploits are what made him a famous Character of the war.

KOTOR 2 must be completed

Um..okay were going off topic

we'll never enforce our views on eachother so we should probably stop..

The points are:

There are no perfect generals...

There are different type of generals

I don't admire Patton..I admire Jukov for example and that's okay...

We should now go back on topic ;)

Superweapons, if debating a global conflict, make General irrelevant. The only counter is the threat of an aggravated nuclear response (the majority of proposed defens esystems are implausibe, inefficeint, or ineffective).

I think Nurbs fogot the last option which combines options 1 & 2:

Revan of course (proudly thinking about oneself)!

+

Grand Admiral Thrawn (voting and touching copy of "Heir to the Empire" at the same time)

=

Revan AND Grand Admiral Thrawn of course (proudly touching oneself and thinking about copy of "Heir to the Empire" at the same time)

The only time in the movies we see Thrawn's "brilliant tactics" is when he cunningly runs into a trap set by the empire. If it wasn't for Lando noticing that something was wrong and ordering the ships to pull up, they would have lost at LEAST half of their CAPITAL SHIPS and all of their advance fighters to a STATIONARY ENERGY SHIELD. The republic had a battle-hardened fleet as well.

Revan, on the other hand, single-handedly destroyed the mighty, warrior-like mandalorian army and culture that had been preparing for years to attack the republic with a republic army that was not used to or trained for large-scale combat.

In my opinion, there is no contest. (Not to belittle Admiral Thrawn, I have heard from some people that he was an excellent tactician in some of the EU material)

Btw this is my first post here hi everyone

Since Alexander was first real military genius (aside of Sun Tzu, but he is seen more as theory teacher) it is understandable that he now serves as a cliche.

Its sad really...........

Nur Ab Sal, if you love something, you have to set it free

People laugh when I say that I think a jellyfish is one of the most beautiful things in the world. What they don't understand is, I mean a jellyfish with long, blond hair.
