Sound

Recommended Posts

Maybe you guys can help - while the game runs fine, I hear hardly any sounds. I have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card. All drivers are up to date.

The only sounds I hear are dialogue, music, and occasionaly a sound effect here or there (Like in battle with the mining droids - I hear nothing but music, then when the droids are beaten I hear thier deactivating sound a few seconds after I actually beat it, like lag) . Otherwise the game is coompletely silent, no sound effects, just music and dialogue. All volume is turned up, EAX is off and forcing Software mode seems to work...but my card is EAX 2 capible and I'd like to take advantage of that.

Any ideas?

I have to agree that KotOR 2 was realeased a little early. The guys here or at lucas arts didn't really take time to bug proof and make everything as magnificent as it was in KotOR 1, which was stunningly well done. I read as a review somewhere (gamespy I think) that lucasarts wanted to hit the game out early for people and didn't really spend the time to really make it special. this 2-bit music (maybe not but just pretend it is an expressin) is really low quality, I really enjoyed KotOR 1 to its fullest. I think that then, the people wern't so rushed to hit of a sequel so people would buy it, but just focused on a good game. I sure hope that the patch can fix up KotOR 2, for the sound though I doubt it. Toi much.

If you are a US customer and are using Windows XP, Dell's download page for the Dimension 4300 is here. Since different options can be installed on the 4300, you will still need to choose the right drivers to download.

http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/...0&os=WW1&osl=EN

If you can run swconfig.exe from your game directory and click 'Scan Hardware' then save the results, your swinfo.txt it creates would help us to be more precise.

Sorry, menace621.. things have been a little busy here.

I haven't come across a driver for your onboard sound yet, but I did see a problem with your posted config that may or may not be causing problems with the game for you.

I noticed that you are running the original Windows XP OpenGL driver. Go to http://www.drivercleaner.net and download Driver Cleaner, then install it. Then download the latest video drivers from http://www.ati.com but don't install them yet.

Go to your Start menu, then click Settings, then click Control Panel. Open Add/Remove Programs and uninstall your current video drivers if they show up. If not, don't worry. Reboot your computer.

Hit F8 while your computer starts, and you should get a menu of choices. Pick 'Safe Mode' and your computer will start up. Run Driver Cleaner and clean out all ATI drivers. Make sure to clean SP1.CAB and SP2.CAB with Cab Cleaner, which is a part of Driver Cleaner. Delete any files you know belong to ATI drivers besides the new ones you downloaded.

Reboot into normal Windows and install the video drivers you downloaded earlier. You should have a much faster and more stable computer.

Again, sorry for the huge delay.

On a vaguely similar note (and since this is stickied, it'll be easier to get a response, right? :D ), why does the dialogue do the slowdown thing(where their talking, but with giant pauses between each syllable, almost like popping)? Has 'neone else had the problem, or is it my hardware or something(if you've seen my "hardware noob" post, yes my sound card was really cheap and crappy too)? I've been toying around with the different settings for sound, but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

I am having the same problem -- cannot start the program without disabling sound. I've tried forcing software sound, too. I have a Creative/E-mu 0404 high-quality soundcard (much like an Audigy), and have tried using that as well as the one built into my Dell Dimension 4600 (called "SoundMax"). Here is my swinfo.txt after disabling sound:
