Hello,

I haven't purchased the game yet, but I'm a PoE fan and I wonder what build options are in this game.

I usually play a fast melee rogue character, and can it be translated in this game ?

Is dual wield good ?

Are daggers viable ?

Are there sneak attacks like in PoE of some sort ? (I mean damage bonus if ennemies have debuff or are near companion like some sort of flanked statut ?)

If not I hope it can be implemented in the game (maybe patchs or mods, if that does not break the game).

Also are Bows viable compare to guns ?

Thanks

I believe it's not considered bad, but you have to manually alternate between the weapons, and you can't block/parry.

Haven't heard good things about them, I'm afraid. But also, it seems you can make every build work right now, so it's just a question of OP vs. more OP.

You deal bonus damage to unaware enemies, and in fact if you try to melee them you will automatically use a special ability that does very high damage. But, once in combat enemies stay aware and there's no flanking debuff. It's possible to drop combat and try to land another Divine Thorn, but your companions (which you are forced to use) generally view your sneak attack as a go signal, so you'll have to wait for them to get knocked out before mobs will relax.

I don't think Shadowing Beyond lets you use it in combat...

I hear better things about guns, but I haven't tried playing an archer/gunner myself.

Actually you can use the skill that makes you invisible to "sneak attack" while in combat. It's quite strong. But yeah overall the game is lacking in terms of stealth gameplay.

Bows are silent but as stated above stealth gameplay is somewhat underwhelming. Also Bows are 2-handers so you miss the versatility of pistols which are one handers and therefore can be paired with other things. Still bows are quite cool and faster than guns.

As @omgFIREBALLS said, everything should work even in PotD so just play whatever you like the most. The game mecanics are not that deep/well balanced but PotD difficulty is not very challenging compared to PoE.

Ok thanks for the answers.

Well sneak attack does not necessary means attack from stealth but well...

I'm worried about dual wield though, you cannot block or parry ?

That's a huge downside, and not sure if I would want to play with a shield or 2H weapon, that's not my style.

If you’re talking about poe1/Deadfire sneak attack mechanics, there’s no such equivalent in avowed.

im using a bow as my main weapon and it works out pretty well. Them being silent *does* really matter if you one hit kill an enemy from stealth (doesn’t happen too often in PotD but you can ambush weaker mobs in a pack like this); enemies have a much harder time becoming aware in that situation. In some situations I can take out all the weaker enemies in a camp or encounter. Pistols definitely have the versatility advantage though. (I have a pistol in my secondary loadout so I can pair it with a grimoire.)

As for dual wielding, you’d have to rely more on dodge or slides for survivability. Both are actually pretty good though blocking is def more reliable and parrying can be more powerful.

Yes ok thanks, is there any advantage to play 1h melee weapon  with no off hand weapon ?

Can you block / parry with only 1h weapon ?

That could be an option for me.

Yes you can ! You'd deal less damage than a with a 2 hander, and attack slower than with DW, but you can parry. (You can also zoom that way with a single pistol)

Ok thanks, that seems to be a good balance.

And of course, pistol in off hand is probably considered as dual wield, so no block/parry ?

Correct
