Heya Bonnell,

Thanks for reaching out! Unfortunately OBS no longer accepts game submission ideas. As an independent developer, Obsidian was often contracted by publishers with an idea for a game and make it through them. Now that we're part of the Microsoft family, it's a bit different. That said, you can reach out to developers with your idea and see if they're interested. They would be the ones who in turn approach publishers like us to make the game. The developers we've worked with in the past are:

I think if I was a potential publisher, this might concern me. Depends on what you mean with it's your "source" - lightly or heavily "inspired" by or actually using recognizable chr names, likenesses, situations etc. eg,  possible copyright/permission rights getting/costs issues.

I'd guess you could always go the Kickstarter/Steam early-access type route vs. being formally published by someone else, too.

They are a big company with lots of employees - they surely have enough ideas on their own. Realistically they probably would not even read your ideas. That said, if you are "still thinking of game mechanics and type of game", you're (probably) a couple years too early with your question anyways. 😄 Unless you actually have something to show for, like a working prototype, nobody will take it serious.

Reminds me of Tim's video where he mentions companies and publishers tend to not look at other peoples ideas as to not open themselves for a potenial lawsuit.

Yeah, had that in mind as well. It's the same with book authors and generally creative people.
