masterty66 Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 Was just thinking about BM. I know the traditional wisdom is to keep Might low in order to make it so Blood Sacrifice isn't so painful. What if you took the route of having high con instead? Would that be enough to counteract the high might? You would be a little attribute starved since you'd have to put points in int as well. Dex would suffer then. But Wizards get Alacrity so having average dex isn't so bad I should think. But maybe even high con + corrosive siphon spam wouldn't be enough to counteract having high might. I dunno. Never tested out the idea. But was curious if anyone else had :).
dgray62 Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 Blood Sacrifice can be very painful when magnified by high might, particularly when you reach higher power levels. I'd recommend that you go for high CON but keep MIG flat, and then put the extra points in DEX, PER and RES. This works very well in my experience. Check out Not So Clever Hound's Bleeding Arcanist build for an excellent example of an ideal (IMO) set up for a single class blood mage. If you're multi classing with another class with excellent healing (say, fighter, paladin or druid) then you could probably afford to but more points in STR. 2 1
Haplok Posted November 10, 2021 Posted November 10, 2021 I'm sure its doable but... why struggle? I also prefer high Con AND flat Might for a more forgiving and easygoing gameplay. Its not like some +20% damage for your spells will make or break your game. And you'll have to work more on compensating self-damage, perhaps spend more action time (of you or other chars) to regen. 2

And investing on PER will also boost indirectly your spell damages (even if less so) while not hurting you and buffing your CC spells. DEX is very flexible and kind of good for any limitless ressource classes. 3
NotDumbEnough Posted November 10, 2021 Posted November 10, 2021 (edited) You could even dump might if you're just going to spam a non-damaging spell over and over (spamming is kind of the point of a blood mage). e.g. pump intellect, perception and dexterity and spam Miasma/Slicken, Enervating Terror/Gaze of the Adragan and Wall of Many Colors. dgray62 Posted November 10, 2021 Posted November 10, 2021 Many Wizard spells already have quite high base damage and scale well too, which means you'll do significant damage even with flat MIG. You also get combusting wounds, an amazing spell, which significantly amplifies your damage when used skillfully. So for wizards, unlike some other classes, high MIG really isn't necessary IMO. 2
