Whoops I was apparently wrong, U.S. does not have the highest GPD per capita, that honor goes to smaller less populous countries known for smarter wealth management and distribution.

Duh, U.S. has a grotesque number of billionaires that inflate score and a whole ton of impoverished people either living on the streets or behind bars, then you got your middle class suburbanites who consider themselves morally superior to both the wealthy and the poor. xD

Haha, yeah. Always a pain having to explain to my students why non-country countries like Qatar and Luxembourg have gigantic GDP/capita. 😀

Denmark, Switzerland, and Ireland (to name just a few) also have a higher rate than Americanistan, are they also non-countries??

No. That's why I said "gigantic." Purely as an example, if U.S. GDP/capita is 50,000. The "non-countries" are those with GDP/capita of, say, 100,000. But countries with, say, 55,000 would not be in that category.

Furthermore, it ultimately depends on one's data for both GDP and population. I for one, as many international relations scholars do, reject GDP measured using the purchasing power parity index. So the data I would use for GDP would not show countries like the three you mention as having GDP/capita greater than the U.S. Making economic comparisons ultimately depends on the data one chooses to use, and I'm not sure anyone has a truly accurate measure of anything.

GDP: National Wealth

GDP/Capita: Citizen Wealth

PPP: National prices of stuff (China beats the U.S. here btw, as things from food to housing are cheaper there).

Yes of course I know this :)  Not what I meant from the part you quoted.

Sure, but it's good to leave it there for knowledge sake in any case 😛

To expand on that, I'd say you need 2 out of 3 to be considered the top nation, China leads PPP but U.S. leads GDP and has quite an edge over China in GDP/Capita.  Economists are predicting that China could overtake the U.S. in GDP by 2030 or so, so if that becomes a reality, China would in fact be the leading economic power in the world, to the dismay of the far right Westerners.

compare the population of ireland, a small homgenous nation, to the bay area of the US... just the bay area of california. ~half. ireland is half. similarly, compare per capita gdp for bay area to  the nations you wanna cherry pick. heck, do for silicon valley and situation is even more extreme. the US is a large and diverse nation. apples and oranges. heck, china has the advantage o' being homogenous and the chinese per capita gdp is similar to kazakhstan and neck-and-neck with mexico. mexico? serious? so...

is another situation where comrade reads something somewhere and w/o benefit o' any kinda serious researches or studies, he blurts out a generality which predictable will not age well for him short-term or long term.

HA! Good Fun!

Mexico is our neighbor like Canada, but people like Gromnir would rather get in bed with countries that are lilly white and score well on the white test rather than dig through the facts and deal with the fact that an Eastern country like China could wind up being more consequential than the U.S.A. on the economic stage some day.  You can be culturally superior but economically inferior you know, it is possible and actually has been a fact all through the middle ages.

so, deflection? you were the guy posting per capita gdp. now is a matter o' neighboring countries and dystopian futures? and yes, china could, possible, in the future, if they overcome their self-made population nightmare, become more economic prosperous than... mexico.  have no problem agreeing with that. doesn't change how myopic and oversimplified were your initial observation.

@kanisatha were a bit more generous with your non analogous numbers than is Gromnir, but am admitted no longer generous with comrade silliness.

HA! Good Fun!

ps oh and preach to the choir maybe 'bout the poverty issues the US could/should be addressing

and how many times has we needed point out that more than 1/3 o' the recipients o' national and state welfare programs is children. add mental and physical disabled and such numbers increase. those who complain 'bout handouts should be ashamed when faced with such numbers, but aren't. point out most adult welfare recipients get benefits less than six months? is a inconvenient fact.

point out how many us military veterans is homeless and living on the streets?

etc.

'course you, as is typical, look external when the most immediate, pressing and solvable concerns is domestic. fix mexico is a big problem. get homeless veterans with mental health issues and medical conditions the help they need? can fix the veteran problem  if we chose to. don't fix is more than a national tragedy and embarrassment but hey, you can talk mexico if you think it salvages your gdp generalization.

pps minors current represent 44% o' national welfare program assistance in the US, and the % would seem to be a bit higher for states, but each state does their own math gymnastics, so is tough to come up with a reliable number. closer to 1/2 than 1/3? say 1/3 for those who quibble, but +44% is safe bet.

Comrade please explain to me something that always confuses me, what is the difference between a white person and lily white person? Should I refer to myself as a white person or a lily white  person and this comes up sometimes in SA where socialists mischaracterize the ownership of businesses as  " controlled by lily white people " ....so its part of the SA narrative and its so confusing :teehee:

And you wrong about what motivates trade and economic decisions, very few trade decisions are based on the race of the country. Trust me I know this because as you know I am a true believer and disciple of the Capitalist and free market system

These decisions are made on the outcome of risk vs reward so in other words you trade with countries based on the positive outcome and factors like profitability and the necessity of things like resources. So for example we all buy commodities like oil and gold from numerous countries and in the example of oil it comes from the ME which  as you know its arabs that live their not white people

So the  decision on all trade is about  quantifiable metrics, policies  and outcomes. The race card is not part of it. But good try again, I appreciate the effort
