Forgot to ask: What areas other than Old City gives you these afflictions in bunches? As in: Do I need to eat more Shark Soup in areas other than here?

old city is unique like that.

all other places just have slog zones or traps.

Yes, when you are sickened from the malodorous corpses in the area the game temporarily shifts to combat mode, which halts party movement through the area.
