June 5, 200421 yr Did you know that Cajuns are all French Canadians? The British shipped them to the southern US. "When is this out. I can't wait to play it so I can talk at length about how bad it is." - Gorgon.
June 5, 200421 yr Did you know that Cajuns are all French Canadians? The British shipped them to the southern US. Really? I thought they were all just evolved craw fish... Cheers!
June 5, 200421 yr That's a bit like suggesting that only people whose main relationship in life is with books or movies can appreciate romances in books and movies. I'm glad you're so enthusiastic about the aspects of games that you like but there's no need to insult those who enjoy other aspects. I'm not implying that a computer romance can only be appreciated by someone who has nothing in their life than their computer, only that it's not what I personally look for when I play a computer game...when I play a game I want to do something exciting and different from my humdrum everyday life, and chin-wagging with Carth just doesn't seem like a game to me, it just seems like a poor immitation of reality. Now maybe Obsidian will come up with a romance that I find interesting and intrinsic to the game's plot, but if they're just tacking on romances for the sake of them, I personally would rather they didn't bother and used the writing resources elsewhere.
June 29, 200421 yr DemonKing:"...but frankly I don't play CRPGs to "get my pixels on" with in-game characters - I wish they'd leave that to the sad sods playing the Sims ." I've always wondered why everyone is mortified by the idea that people might be turned on by characters in a computer game. Especially as gaming companies, and most entertainment mediums, obviously don't always appeal to ascetical interests with their depiction of females. Lara Croft being the most well known example. I see it only as a side effect of playing the game, and not much different than movie, literature, anime, etc. characters "turning someone on."
June 29, 200421 yr The nice part about getting my pixels on, is that I'm less likely to get a restraining order.
June 29, 200421 yr I think romances are written with either a pen or a keyboard (word processor) Le donne sono da venus, la scopata sa dove sono gli uomini da. For a different kind of Kotor chat

June 29, 200421 yr I use crayons. They're tasty. When pens explode in your mouth, they don't taste good.

June 29, 200421 yr For example, with my first run through KOTOR I had a female character but I refused to romance Carth as he annoyed the hell out of me, so all that development time was a waste, at least in my case. No. That is like saying because I never played a sentinel all the work they did on sentinels was a waste of dev time. Just because some people don't like or use a feature doesn't make it a waste. As long as a significant number of people DO like it/use it. Or that they shouldn't put in subquests because not everyone does every single one.
June 29, 200421 yr The designers get to together after work; after downing one too many alcoholic beverages they come up with a few embarassing pick lines and then ask the scripters and conservation writers to slap together a romance. "For ourselves, we shall not trouble you with specious pretences- either of how we have a right to our empire because we overthrew the Mede, or are now attacking you because of wrong that you have done us- and make a long speech which would not be believed; and in return we hope that you, instead of thinking to influence us by saying that you did not join the Lacedaemonians, although their colonists, or that you have done us no wrong, will aim at what is feasible, holding in view the real sentiments of us both; since you know as well as we do that right, as the world goes, is only in question between equals in power, while the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must."
June 29, 200421 yr The designers get to together after work after downing one too many alcoholic berverages they come up with a few embarassing pick lines and then ask the scripters and conservation writers to slap together a romance. Now, that's scarry...
June 29, 200421 yr I just started playing a DS Female character. Every time I do something, Carth seems appauled. And then I tell him to screw off, and he takes it as a come on. That relationship is a mockery. When I played a LS male, the relationship with Bastilla felt considerably less contrived.
