So, I've unlocked scaffolding, but there isn't flooring? I unlocked foundations, but have struggled to find the quantity of clay needed to make enough. Is there an easier to make floor? Is there another use for scaffolding that I'm not seeing?

You get the floors from BUR-GL in exchange for science.  Not sure why, exactly, since they are only grass planks lying flat as opposed to vertical walls, but that's how you get them.

Also clay is all over the ponds, you can swim in them too to find them as well.

Agreed, the steps to learn floors, is a bit silly. And right now, scaffolding, without floors are fairly useless.

You have to use the grass floors on the scaffolding.
