drbob Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 (edited) Hello, Will the outer worlds explicitly support mods to the game? This is especially important for the Microsoft store version which is sold as as a locked down UWP app with access to the game files heavily restricted by Windows unless developers deliberately choose to allow access for game modifications. All previous obsidian RPGs have been greatly enhanced with mods created by the player community. It would be a great shame if a large portion of the player base on PC were locked out of using mods due to the UWP. Edited October 23, 2019 by drbob 1
rustqueen Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 I would prefer it if Obsidian created the mods or at least tested and approved them from a mod team. The mods on fallout occasionally break the game and sometimes result in you having to restart a older game save.
drbob Posted October 24, 2019 Author Posted October 24, 2019 (edited) It would be nice if Obsidian were to create a curated list of vetted mods. However, I think having Obsidian vet and approve all mods would be unworkable and far too limiting. There are over 20,000 mods for Fallout: New Vegas on Nexusmods alone. Anhur Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 Mind you probably half or more are re-skins and hi-res packs.
Mister Holdout Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 I was wondering about this myself. Thanks for the link to the article.
drbob Posted October 25, 2019 Author Posted October 25, 2019 Answering my own question: apparently the co-director of The Outer Worlds, Leonard Boyarsky, said in an interview that mod support may be coming in a post release patch but didn't make any firm promises 1
Edfitz Posted October 25, 2019 Posted October 25, 2019 It would be great if we got Console mods as Bethesda has done with Fallout 4. It would be interesting to see if Sony applied the same restrictions that they have Bethesda. 1
Blitz Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 Does this game formerly support mods in the traditional sense or are we waiting for genius to figure out how to mod the game?
Ommamar Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 By what I read in the agreement you had to click on and articles about the game I think a modding tool will be released in a few months. 2
Ommamar Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 In the user agreement required to use the game their is a part about user created content, I couldn't see them taking the time to include it if modding was not planned to be included at some point.

Thanks. I'll uninstall for now. Currently there is no PS4 Controller support on PC (they made a PS4 release), a way to disable head bob, nor a way to fully remap all keybinds. I haven't started the game yet. I would like to stay up to date on patch notes for this game, I don't know how to do that. Do they have some RSS feed for patch notes?
VaultBoi2077 Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 Mod support isn't high on the dev team list right now. But hopefully the devs will be seriously considering release of a mod suite tools down the road. Note that unlike Bethesda's outdated Gamebryo/Creation Club, Unreal 4 engine is a difficult engine to mod and work with. So it will be a challenge for the modding community to make mods for the game if at all. 2
aaronbond007 Posted October 30, 2019 Posted October 30, 2019 Hopefully If they do add mod support they will allow follower mods with customized voiced acting and romance options to be added as well . I hope mod support comes to Console .
