  1. Unreal 3 engine would be better.

Good luck to get the thing running on a modern comp. A Geforce 6800 Ultra was struggling @20fps with that beast of bandwidth

True, but we are talking a few years from now. The Unreal engine is expected around 2006! Any game started now would probably coincide with that. :p

  2. It's not that it was hard, but it was obvious his character was beyond level 20....also he was able to restore all of his energy. Malak was cheesey, thats why he was so hard to fight.

That's what bugs me about Malak, and the 'cutscenes' in Kotor. They take control away from the player. It was even worse here. Every time he retreats to replenish his energy what's to stop you from attacking him? Battles don't end just because one guy has been weakened. The entire fight with Malak is like a scripted cutscene. You have no control even when you're winning. I hope there's no repeat of that in Kotor2.

  3. Please do add a level cap and make it around level 8 or 10

Are you serious?! Do you know how hard it was to kill Malak at level 20? If you make the level cap at 8 or 10 the game will just become frustrating. <_<

Level 8 is no different to 20 if the enemies you face are balanced. Malak was designed for a lvl 20 character, so an RPG that has a lvl 8 cap would have enemies designed for a lvl 8 character. It's all about balance.

  4. I'm glad that he gives Anachronox the credit it deserves, as a title on par with PS:T for characters and story and atmosphere. It's one of the greatest PC games ever made, along with the Fallouts and PS:T.

I was always going to buy Anachronox and never did. Is it really as good as PS:T and Fallout? I have my doubts but I'm willing to give it a try.

    Fatima here I come. B)

  5. At lvl 30 or 35 you will have to fight multiple enemies because no single enemy is going to present a challenge, other than the Sith Lords. And even they would call for back-up.

I like the idea of no cap but with a finite amount of experience. So, you could squeeze out 25-30 levels if you did every single quest, but most people would end the game at 20. You should only have so much experience. The days of killing respawning enemies are long gone.

  6. Nope, by default, you could only have a pointer my right clicking with your mouse.

    hmm, weird.

I'm almost certain my copy had the mouse pointer already on.

I'm in Europe (UK). I don't know if that's relevant but maybe the default settings aren't the same?

I uninstalled Kotor the other day so I can't check right now.

  7. If the game is designed well enough, level caps will be irrelevant- Everyone will just want to proceed through the story, and won't be driven to buff up their characters to the point where every encounter is too easy.  Even if there is no level cap, this problem can be easily remedied with code that increases the strength of enemies relative to your level.

Level caps aren't a big deal if you design the game properly.

Personally, I think the 'phat loot' you collect is a more serious problem. At least levels give you natural abilities - skills/powers/feats, etc - but when you add the ridiculous equipment you find that tilts the balance. Just how powerful would your character be without those cloaks, gloves and belts that give you god-like powers? A Jedi without all that crap would at least have some limitations.

  8. If cutscenes can be skipped what's the point of having them? It would be better if they didn't exist. At least give the player full control of what happens next. Kotor's cutscenes are there to make a choice for you. Whatever you reply the result is the same.

  9. I'd prefer less cutscenes. Most of them take control away from the player and I don't like that - e.g. the Selkath arresting you on Manaan, or Jolee outside the temple. Pre-rendered cutscenes are fine because those are mostly transition shots - flying towards planets, descending into the shadowlands, etc. If cutscenes allow you to choose what happens next that would be ok. Kotor rarely did, tho.

  10. I found it reasonably easy to play KotOR with the mouse mostly.

Having to hold mouse buttons to switch to "pointer mode" so often was a real pain though.

"Pointer mode" was on by default if I remember correctly. To move your character you hold both mouse buttons. It was a minor inconvenience but I'd rather have the pointer.

  11. MCA has the right attitude.  Honestly, I think that, besides some juvenile fascination (not to demean juvenile fascination-- I can be pretty juvenile myself in certain situations), the key allure of the romances is not that they're romantic, but that they represent the only in-depth character interaction in the vast majority of CRPGs.  If more gamers had experienced NPC interactions of considerable depth but without the hokey romantic aspect, I think that fan support for romances per se would not be nearly as strong.

Oh yes... I agree completely. where's the "thumbs up" smiley when you need one?

  12. I thought the thing with Bastila was she wasn't nearly as cold/stoic/up with the jedi code as she seemed to be. Hence the love and the falling to the darkside.

Maybe, but she has no problem ending the 'romance' when it suits her. The PC had no choice, as usual. The darkside fall was a result of her capture by Malak - before that I never even imagined a DS Bastila.

Well, everyother dialogue with her was about how hard it was to keep awayfrom the darkside. She her self admitted having trouble, so it's not out of left field.

yeah, that's true, but I think it was written that way to facilitate the romance. So it's quite ironic that Malak forces Bastila's turn and not the player.

  14. WTF? I had no clue my responses would lead to that.

So your upset a NPC act different than what you expected? :)

yet, people complain their NPCs followed certain sterotypes to closely.....

That's the point - a 'romance' with Bastila was the last thing I expected based on the dialog options. Dumb flirting is not a romance. Bastila being a stoic Jedi makes that even more remarkable. It should take a lot more to break down her cold exterior.

  15. If romances are an option and not a requirement I don't see how anyone can complain. Personally, I hate romances, and Kotor didn't change my opinion. The Bastila romance was very poor indeed. No way did that enhance Kotor. It felt forced and artificial with you being dragged along without any real control. A few flirtatious lines of dialog are not what I consider a romance. I was amazed when Bastila pulls you aside to discuss your 'feelings'. WTF? I had no clue my responses would lead to that.

  16. I don't care about titles.  They are meaningless to me.  All I care about is the game itself.

yeah, and Kotor is about Jedi. The 'Knights' of the title. So, it isn't a meaningless description. If you don't want to play a Jedi you're out of luck. Buy another game.
