The greatest russian hero of wide lowlands has perished!
Enoch replied to Meshugger's topic in Way Off-Topic
Although, rather unlike Clinton, he was instrumental in the appointment of the man who replaced him. -
I have no idea how authentically Italian the recipe is, but in America, when you order chicken parmesan, you get breaded boneless chicken breasts (either roasted or pan-fried), which are then simmered in tomato sauce with cheese on top (usually mozzerella and/or parmigiana). I usually include the parmigiana in the breading, and use a tomato sauce with lots of basil.

It was a beautiful weekend here in the Eastern U.S. I celebrated the weather by indulging in that most all-American of pastimes-- shopping! Got a pile of new clothes for work, made a run to the Costco for various goods (bottled water, beer, soap, etc.), and then did the normal weekly grocery shopping. Also, last night I made some very nice chicken parmesan, with lots of leftovers to eat during the week. As for today, hopefully I will find the replacement power supply for my new computer waiting when I go home (UPS tells me that the package is currently "out for delivery") so that I can finally get my new PC working like it should.

Beatles -- I Want You (She's So Heavy) I could probably listen to this song for days straight and not get tired of it. I'm starting to hate "Here Comes the Sun" because when I hear it, it just means that "I Want You" is over. (Maybe I need to get the vinyl version just to restore the original side A/side B break.)

Duke Ellington Orchestra (circa 1941) -- In a Mellow Tone

Mingus -- The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady, Track C-- Group Dancers (Soul Fusion) Freewoman and I, This Freedom's Slave Cries. Seriously. That's the title. It is amazingly good, provided you're in the right frame of mind. Track D, though, loses me a bit with the Spanish guitar interludes. I like Spanish guitar as much as the next guy, but I don't really get how it fits into the rest of the piece.

I don't remember the number, but I'd recommend the channel called "Sirius Disorder." I listened to a lot of that one while I was at my parents' place last weekend. Unpredictable, but lots of good stuff. Beatles -- Lovely Rita The Fab Four are excellent company on the morning commute. Helps wake me up and get me in a good mood.

I'm still waiting on the official 1.2 patch before I fire this game up again. There's a leaked version available on torrent sites right now, which fixes many of the issues, but I'm in no great hurry. Hopefully it shouldn't be more than another week or so. The expansion does look neat, though. I never bothered with the R:TW expansion, but this one looks like it could be worthwhile.

Listened to most of disc 2 of the White Album on the way to work today. I skipped "Birthday," and it was just getting to "Revolution 9" when I walked in the door. I always get a bout of nostalgia when I hear "Mother Nature's Son." At my grandparents' house, when I was little, there was some kind of toy that played a song I did not recognize at the time, but I remember very vividly trying to figure out what song it was. "Mother Nature's Son" was my closest guess (the White Album was in my parents' record collection, and they played it enough that I knew all the songs pretty well), but I knew it wasn't quite right. I later learned that the song was, oddly enough, the Coca-Cola jingle ("I'd like to teach the world to sing, in per-fect har-mo-ny...").

I'm as big a Doonesbury fan as you'll find, although I don't necessarily think that the above is really that great an example of Trudeau's best work. A bit too 'easy' of a target for my tastes. BTW, here's a better link with fewer ads.

The name sounds familiar. Where's Darque when you need her? Insufficient internet connectivity producing irregular posting. *Hunts around to locate the surveillance camera Meta has installed to track my movements*

Fair point. The curse of 370 had already doomed him. But most fantasy football drafts have a fair amount of "dumb money" in them-- owners who blindly pick the players who have earned the most "Boo-yah's" from Stuart Scott the previous season.

I hope you are ready for the renewed onslaught ... Yeah, my girlfriend ended up seated next to my grandmother, who got rather tipsy and spent a considerable portion of the shower offering unsolicited advice on how to get me to propose. Overall, though, the weekend went well. The drive back to VA yesterday was a bit rough due to lots of rain and strong wind gusts, but we made it in one piece.

Huge blow to KC's offense. I pity the poor fool who picks LJ high in his fantasy draft, expecting a repeat of last years' numbers.

Probably Might & Magic IX. Although if expansions count, IWD:HOW is up there.

R.E.M. -- Pop Song 89 Borrowed a few older R.E.M. CDs from my sister which may or may not end up saved on my hard drive.

Geek Squad gets sued: employee peeks at woman in shower
Enoch replied to Bokishi's topic in Way Off-Topic
Don't forget that this isn't a criminal case-- the plaintiffs do not have to prove guilt "beyond a reasonable doubt," they just have to prove that it's more likely than not that the plaintiff is liable. And juries do not like the idea of repairmen planting devices to spy on their children. It may not be as easy as you think. In a civil case its usually the defendant's choice on whether theres a jury or not, so if it did go to court they could just have a judge, who would be less likely to be swayed by their emotions than a jury. The details depend on state rules, but it is almost always the case that either side can demand that a jury hear the case, provided that certain other criteria (usually a minimum amount in controversy) are met. The jury demand form can usually be attached to either of the initial pleadings in the case (the plaintiff's complaint or the defendant's answer). -
Half day of work today!! This afternoon, I'll be driving up to my parents' house in NJ with my girlfriend for the weekend. They've made reservations to go out to a nice little Italian restaurant tonight. (One thing I miss greatly about Jersey is the fabulous little hole-in-the-wall Italian restaurants that are in absolutely every town. Virginia is sorely lacking in this department. Must not be enough mafia connections or something.) Tomorrow, my girlfriend will go to my sister's bridal shower, and I'll go with my Dad to help him pick out his tuxedo.

Geek Squad gets sued: employee peeks at woman in shower

Its easily faked. If all they had is the memory chip, its probably very hard to prove its from his phone. This case would be very easy for Best Buy to win, but they'll likely just settle. -

I don't know California law specifically, but I'm guessing that the theory of the suit is that BB & GS promised (expressly or implicitly) that their repair guy was a professional who the customer could safely let into her home without fear that he would do anything untoward. -

Respondeat superior generally holds that employers are liable for the non-intentional torts of their employees, if they are done within the course of the employment. The charges filed were "fraud, negligent misrepresentation, negligent hiring, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress." The first three are clearly directed primarily at Best Buy & Geek Squad. The latter two, as intentional torts, are probably directed at the employee alone, although the "negligent hiring" charge, if proven, may put the employers on the hook even for the intentional actions. -
It's not entirely about current fans. It's about the current 7-year-old whose mother doesn't like how NFL players behave and thus encourages her kids to watch NASCAR instead. It's also about fans who don't stop watching the NFL, but who are put off a bit by bad behavior such that they're not cheering quite so loud when Pac-man has a good punt return. (And they're certainly not buying his jersey.) Stuff like this absolutely affects the league's bottom-line. It's difficult to quantify because the effect is spread out over many years, but it's there.
-
Volo, it's not about the league enforcing morality, it's about public relations. Companies selling entertainment to the public fire/suspend/discipline people all the time for actions that don't come remotely close to a criminal conviction. You might be of the opinion that off-the-field conduct doesn't affect the entertainment value of the product, but the NFL, it's advertisers, and the vast majority of the fans disagree with you. It dimishes the product if, every time a highlight reel plays on the evening news, the commentator mentions that the featured player is under investigation for some criminal activity. It may not affect what you call "real fans," but it certainly discourages potential fans from developing an interest in the sport. My only complaint about the penalties given to Jones & Henry is that, by comparison, the steroid & drug use penalties are far too lenient.

Oliver Nelson -- Stolen Moments. with Eric Dolphy, Freddie Hubbard, Bill Evans, Paul Chambers, and Roy Haynes. The album is "The Blues and the Abstract Truth," and it is one of my all-time favorites, even in spite of the overly pretentious title.
