  1. The Outer Worlds trademark was registered under Obsidian Entertainment, not under Dark Rock Productions. If Microsoft had any interest in the PoE IP they bought it with the company. The Outer Worlds will be like reverse Mass Effect. Starts as a third-party publications, moves in-house. Microsoft really fudged things for themselves that time.
  2. It look so bad. But I feel I need to have a valid opinion, so I too will probably see it.
  3. They started the buyout process before Deadfire even hit the stores. It doesn't take a genious to put 1 and 1 together on what triggered Avellone back in May. Ahh, it's all becoming clear.
  4. Private Division is still the publisher for Project Indiana. Got a source? This is awesome news if true. https://www.polygon.com/2018/11/10/17959500/obsidian-xbox-acquired-x018-new-vegas-pillars-eternity There you go. This is glorious news. Not that Microsoft won't do good with Obsidian, but they are being given one last crack of truly independent game-production on a new IP before operations shift into acquisition mode. Which makes me wonder why Obsidian felt they couldn't hold out any longer, I wonder if the struggles of Deadfire and the gap to their next game were part of it. I guess with Microsoft, the team that wasn't on Project Indiana will be able to secure immediate funding.
  5. Forums have been replaced by dynamic social media, of which you have numerous flavors to choose from.
  6. It was the only choice, yet they opted not to... shame of the decade.

  8. I always say this, facts don't care about your feelings.
  9. Do we know if MS also bought out Project Indiana (Tim Cain & Leonard Boyarsky's Dream Game) from Private-Division? I'd assume so, but it's not clear. The last independent game from Obsidian could be quite the keeper for Take-Two, especially for this new publishing venture of theirs.
  10. Well this place is largely people talking past each other repeatedly, so...yep. I think you'll find this space is mostly individuals speaking through one another continuously.
  11. Considering this place, I'd say it does Here I thought the inner circle where those who discussed, now I realize it's those who broadcast. I truly am on the outside.
  12. In essence: "Obsidian is in need for kinetic energy, what Microsoft does is give us potential energy." A valid point.
  13. I assumed ktchong was canvassing/astroturfing for some political agenda. Bold large font drive by posting is not what I'd call a member of a community.
  14. I think the biggest risk to infinity-like games is the market and the perceptions of the producer. The biggest risk to Obsidian's trade-mark style will likely be new hires that want to make their own mark on the industry and aren't as interested in developing the same skills the eventually leaving senior creators had.
  15. Obsidian was very much left to the whims of it's publishers. Inadequate resources, lack of investment to prepare for shifts in the market. If you look at Sony, you can see how much more efficient their investments are across all their studios and how bolstering of exclusives which sell consoles helps to offset disparities in sales. I'm sure Microsoft will start Obsidian off on a scale they can manage, but over time they'll grow to meet the technologies that Microsoft equips them with.
  16. Hope this is true I'm sure it will be for the first few titles they do for MS. Companies don't change over night. I guess it depends on if a studio hits upon a slightly successful formula that is ripe for exploitation.
  17. Marketing game was really weak from Paradox, and the damage was already done when Versus Evil was taking over. Coupled with sequel syndrome, it's all the more necessary to sell people on jumping in new for the second game. MS will actually give Obs a budget to get their vision of an rpg into the hearts and minds of people. They have Obs's tech along with the devs that learned the same tech over on InXile. I don't think iso-crpg is dead just yet. Plus Obsidian has been maintaining multiple teams, they are more than capable of balancing a AAA alongside passion projects.
  18. Literally just saw the news and rushed over here. Congratulations team! Microsoft seems to have a refocused plan for investing in first-party developers, I think this will be a fine partnership. Just don't forget to give them grief about Stormlands and their good old days with Ensemble. Keep them humble!
  19. Not a Canadian duo, but somehow Canada is allowed to be proud.
  20. MS does bold investments but seems to shift if things aren't working. Going on their track records I'd say they are awful. Going on what is only a promise so far from their 2018 E3 Press Conference, then I'd say they might be turning a new leaf. Too early to say.
