Ah, OK. AMD definitely needs more production capabilities. But for AMD to get any advantage from this, they'd probably have to 'steal' some time from GPU manufacturing schedules. There may be some complications due to the different libraries used by the different fabs, in case they decide to get the same processor fabbed at multiple fabs. But yes, they have gained some flexibility, no doubt.

Update: In case anyone is still interested, price is now down to $19.97. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...ENOYDaC_BXPdgkw

Does ATi have any fab facilities at all? I thought they had all their chips grown at TSMC, UMC and IBM.

Update: Newegg now has the new prices. Note that among Socket 939 CPUs, only Manchester Core (2x512MB L2) prices have been cut, while Toledo (2x1MB) prices are all over the place. This is consistent with what AMD announced. Looks like Toledo's are being phased out. Monarch was offering a huge discount on Toledo's too, but Newegg is selling them at very high prices (a 4400+ is much more expensive than a 4600+).

I doubt NVidia will sell out. They have always had grand plans... plans to extend far beyond GPU technology, plans to far surpass Intel and AMD.
-
You can't! AMD graphics cards will not run with Intel processors! J/k ... I don't really know... all I know is that Intel just pulled the plug on ATi- um.. AMD's license to manufacture chipsets for Intel processors... duh. I guess they will all stick to PCI-express standards. The only thing is that ATi (AMD) won't manufacture chipsets for Intel any more, and NVidia won't make chipsets for AMD (ATi) any more.

Update: Monarch Computer has them on sale. The 4800+ is already sold out.

OMG I never expected the price cuts to hit this soon! (w00t) (w00t) Newegg haven't updated their prices yet ... I'm guessing they are on PDT, although I don't know how this stuff works... do they have to wait for a fresh batch from AMD before they can start using the new prices? If so, why would anyone be stupid enough to buy any of their currently stocked processors?

Sold! Official AMD Press Release.

Rumors about the AMD-ATi merger/buyout have been doing the rounds for the past couple of months. The primary question is whether AMD has enough cash to buy ATi. The latest buzz at the Inq is that both companies are going to ask their stockholders for their opinions.

Yeah, the 90-series drivers are horrifying. Of late, it also does seem that nVidia have been pushing IQ to the side in order to get those extra few FPS. Let's hope they learn from Intel's mistakes and realize that aggressive marketing and hype can only get you so far. In the end the better product wins.

http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=3446 (w00t) Is that SEXY or what?!! *drool*... The GPU core is essentially the same as the X1900XTX (R580). Core clock speeds will also remain the same. The only difference is the GDDR4 support, but this in itself is supposed to yield some nice performance benefits. GDDR4 has lower latency than GDDR3 and consumes much less power, enabling it to be clocked higher. With the DX10 R600 around the corner though, ATi probably won't sell many of these.

I was under the impression that Halo 3 would be launched a couple of days before the PS3 launch.

The problem is that M$ and Sony and the RIAA and MPAA don't care about the differences between these idiots and the people that are fighting for fair use on principle such as "DVD-Jon"... the DMCA screws them equally. In fact, indirectly, the DMCA screws genuine consumers even more. They are the ones that have to deal with all the copy-protection [poopie] while the hackers (regardless of whether they are acting in self-interest or on principles) get unrestricted access to the oh-so-precious content. Far Cry wouldn't run on my PC unless I uninstalled CloneCD. This was the *trial* version of CloneCD for [pity's] sake that I had installed just for laughs. I could have uninstalled CloneCD, but I uninstalled Far Cry instead. You have to draw the line somewhere. Edited for profanity.

NAND?!?? Did you actually use NAND in an English sentence?!!? EDIT: assuming you meant NOT (recommended, encouraged NAND condoned), where the NAND is a 3-input NAND over rec, enc and con, your expression translates to: Infanticide is recommended, encouraged AND condoned by Creative or Obsidian. Hmm, we need to fix the OR at the end into an AND somehow.
-
Wow, I don't think I'd have the nerve to do that.
-
I looked it up in my mobo's documents.
-
Hmm... I've never tried Abit. Would you put them in the same league as DFI, MSI and ASUS?
-
Yes, in fact AMD (and Intel, for that matter) had to go through a lot of tweaking and fine-tuning to get DDR2 performance levels up to the DDR levels. Typical applications we run seem much more latency-sensitive than bandwidth-intensive. Of course, bandwidth is becoming more important with the increasing number of cores per socket.

-------------------------------------------------------------- *** WARNING *** WARNING *** WARNING *** This is a mail-in rebate from TigerDirect and OnRebate. Several people have had unpleasant experiences with the duo. The processor is a Socket 754 Athlon64 (the socket Semprons use today), so make sure you have a compatible motherboard before buying. I'm not sure if all Sempron motherboards support an Athlon64. It's an "Athlon", but it has only 256KB cache. However, AMD's number ratings (3300 in this case) are usually good performance estimates that take both clock speed and cache size into account. This CPU runs at 2.4GHz. -------------------------------------------------------------- Here's the deal: Athlon64 3300+ for $29.99 AR. (w00t) My HTPC has a Sempron64 2600+, and I know for a fact that my mobo will take this processor, so I have taken the leap (despite TD's questionable rep). If I don't get the MIR, I will swallow my pride and console myself that I spent a bit more than I should have on a reasonably good procesor. If I do get the MIR, it would be an awesome deal. I will let you folks know what happens.

:D Awesome trailer! I wish the actual toons looked like that too...
