  1. Yeah. It's... strange. I can only guess that her father just pays for the tuition and nothing else, but who knows. It's as flimsy as anything else that serves as backstory in the manga. Given her personality, she might as well just refuse any more help (in the show, at least). Everything she says, does or wears is pretty much par for the course for someone whose main income comes from providing shrine services - they're generally living on donations and charity in Japan (at least it was a while back, it sure still is I'm guessing). It's only the private school that doesn't fit, at all. Blame it on the manga, it's what I do.
  2. Oh, right. The entire seaon has problems with hands. They look weird whenever there's a close up of them. For that I have no explanation.
  3. Well, unless you immediately start playing with your friends from school/college/university most of the time the social interaction is incidental, something that arises from doing content with others. The most fun I had playing WoW was when I was playing it with a colleague from work and a couple of regulars we found while looking for groups to do content. That was before Blizzard introduced a one click way of finding other players to play with. It made doing the content much easier, but it killed having to interact with other people to do it. It ruined the server communities and allowed people to behave like complete arses, because while you could easily get yourself on a server-wide (or faction-wide, at least) blacklist, when you have the entire population of your WoW region at your fingertips, you can play all day long and never meet the same player twice. That limited the community feelings to raids, and even these you can find groups for these days. Well, not entirely certain about the current state of the game. I quit hard after Cataclysm and only dabbled a bit in Legion. It might seem strange coming from me, because initiating any form of social interaction is hard for me, but it's much easier online. People might be jerks, but usually they just say no, I don't want to, have no time, instead of worse things. A better example might be my time in Everquest 2, because that game, while still a theme park, focused much more on social interaction (back then it was impossible to do even the easiest of content without a group), exploration and questing than WoW ever did. It's a nice bonding experience to find some people and make your way through a long, drawn out dungeon, then it gets late, you put the people on the friend list and agree to continue next time. After a while the game just becomes a platform for interactions. Unless you're like me and you at some point have to decide between playing with peeps from your friendlist or playing with people who know what they're doing but are complete asshats otherwise. And yes, I almost immediately ditched playing with my friends in favor of actually getting somewhere. So it was part community simulator and part actual, fun gameplay (and heroic raiding in Cataclysm was... hard). There's Seska and Kes, both are only there for the first two and three seasons, respectively, but I'm guessing you mean Seska, the Cardassian spy on the ship. She was "fun", yep. Like everything about the first two season, especially the Kazon. Sigh. No, don't do that, this is the thread for walls of text. So what you're saying is that Highway to the Dangerzone has no relation to aerospace engineering? Maverick would disagree. Heh. Regarding Rei, she always went to a private school (hence the different uniform). This will become a funny running gag of a sort in the season when Rei shows up out of nowhere at the damndest of times. The anime never gives a reason why she goes to a private Catholic school when she arguably has the financially poorest looking upbringing of all the girls. In the manga her father is a wealthy carreer politician who has no time for her daughter, so she's foisted upon her grandfather. It's reasonable to assume he pays for her tuition fees, if nothing else. Not entirely convinced that is what Ms. Takeuchi had in mind from the start when she made Rei go to a different school than Ami and Usagi, but it is what it is. Oh, and also, one thing to keep in mind and comment on later, but I sometimes got the feeling that some of the fun of this season was about the writers realizing why people were watching the anime, and there's some meta-style humor later. That might just have been me, so when you start seeing it, leave a like, subscribe to my posts and hit that... wait, no. Erm. Leave a comment. And yes, now imagine if SuperS would have been more like this. An entire season lost. Well, almost, there are two or three good episodes in SuperS. Out of 39. So sad. So far Umino was barely in the manga. I guess that stays that way if Crystal is any indication. Once the team is complete Naru and Umino will be ditched in favor of making everything about Mamoru and Usagi. But I'll certainly complain about it when the time comes. And yeah, Motoki says that in the anime. Not sure if that is to take out the creepiness of the source material or just so that Makoto can't catch a break. I mean manga Motoki becomes possessed and tries to seduce her, anime Motoki just thinks of her as little sister. Poor Makoto even cleans his appartment once only to find a picture of Reika.
  4. Motoki is really weird in the manga. Was he this weird in the anime? He thinks all of Usagi's friends are sexy, even though they, at this point, consist of social pariah Makoto who is too tall and has weird hair and quiet, demure Ami who is good for nothing but studying. Well, and Rei, who really is said to be pretty in about every other panel, but that's neither here nor there. Motokoi is posessed by the Dark Kingdom and starts seducing her. Did I complain about this while watching Crystal? Poor girl can't catch a break, can she? Oh, and Tuxedo Creep jumps into Usagi's room without knocking. Yeah. Pretty sure I complained about that. Hello Juban disctrict police, there's a stalker creep following a 14 year old girl. Hello?
  5. Hm, so there I was, reading a bit of the Sailor Moon manga again. Fourth act, the masquerade ball. Usagi has found Rei in the last one and Ami before that. And I was thinking, hey, this isn't so bad. It looks nice enough, unlike Crystal, and Rei actually senses something bad is about to happen in a meaningful way, she tells Ami to ditch Usagi at the ball because she's useless and I was actually having a decent time reading this. But then the three girls see the princess of Kingdom D without glasses and wonder if Umino looks as good without them, then they think that there's no way that can be true, Sailor Moon accidentially drinks some "juice", falls asleep and Tuxedo Creep leans in for some sweet, non-consentual kissing action on a sleeping and drunk 14 year old girl. Yeah. Why am I doing this again? Something's wrong with me, huh? Oh, in the beginning of Act 5 Usagi is telling Luna that she's getting fat. No wonder Luna ribs on Usagi in the anime any time she gets. It's payback.
  6. Before the dark times. Before the Kelvin, Voyager was easily the worst of all the newer Star Trek shows except maybe Enterprise insofar as that it has more episodes that aren't actively trying to deforest your scalp by forcing you to pull your hair out, but that probably was only because Enterprise was cancelled after it showed a marked improvement over the first two seasons. Seasons 4 or 5 are the closest to having runs of several good episodes, but even they suffer from Janeway having bipolar personality disorder and the writers having no idea what to do with Chakotay and the less said about Neelix the better. Or Naomi Wildman. Or even worse, both of them together in an epsiode. Go away, SuperS-level Chibi-Usa, just go away.
  7. Awww. Tuxedo Mullet is waiting for you. You know you want to. xD Sorry, just playing around a bit. But I heard that PGSM is supposedly liked by both manga and 90ies anime fans. I fully plan on continuing it... after taking a break. So, anything up? Aside from maybe checking out Puella Magi Madoka Magica because it's short?
  8. Can't argue with that. Easy to fix in hindsight. Not that easy to come up when writing by the seat of your pants I guess. But are you sure you're done? There's still the live action show left, or Crystal, or the manga... Bwahahahaha. *evil cackle*
  9. You could try Bells of Innocence, it doesn't have a traditional super hero, but something much better. Chuck Norris!
  10. I liked the joke the finale ended with. Look guys, Usagi doesn't get it. edit: The three movies are just one hour long episodes where nothing of any consequence happens. They're fun rides, but not really necessary. The only thing that kind of bleeds through is the beginning of Luna's and Artemis' romance in the Sailor Moon S movie. That's really minor. One does the grind because one must, in order to be either Conan in PVP (Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentation of the women!) or an achiever in PVE. It's a means to an end, not something you do for fun. The rest is people being attached to the feeling of doing something with their online friends and guild members and still playing trying to recapture that feeling that is probably long gone already. It's okay to like any MMO game as interaction platform for you and your friends. Insofar I'm also attached to my World of Warcraft and Star Wars: The Old Republic main characters - they're the avatar of memories of achievements and online interactions. Not sure what the rationalization is for. It's fine to like the games as they are. Lord knows I've spent literal years playing them (as in years of actual game time, not years of being active - but that too).
  11. Fun fact, if you take a certain scene at the end of the season, remove it a bit from the context it is set in, you could actually do something like that for Sailor Stars, namely when... Maybe I'll play Diablo again. I recently also bought the latest Grim Dawn addon, but I can't seem to get back into playing. I played a good deal of Path of Exile a while back during Blight league, that was fun, but I was eventually stumped by a lack of mapping progress. There's definitely a lack of grind as a means to extend playtime or make it more multiplayer viable in Diablo. It's also full of hilarious bugs like infinite staff charges and item duping. Don't care much for the duping, because why bother, but finding a Staff of Apocalypse wins you the game assuming your magic stat is good enough to actually use it. I'm going to assume that the engine update fixes these issues... SU:
  12. I must admit, you're much less bothered about this season retreading plot points than I thought you would be after complaining about Ami's SuperS power up episode. I guess such things are less problematic when everything else is fun to watch.
  13. That means you're not even close to the really disturbing stuff yet. Keep going! It's even too early to ask you what your favorite storyline is.
  14. Sailor Stars/Steven Universe spoilers, so be warned anyone else who's clicking into this... As for your sentiment on musicals, I can understand that. Not a big fan of regular musicals myself. I've seen a few (among them Cats, Hair and We Will Rock You and Phantom of the Opera) and nothing really changed my mind so far. Characters singing and dancing for no reason while telling a story bothers me less in animation.
  15. Man, the forum just ate another one of my posts. For crying out loud, but at least it was a short one. Spoilers!
  16. Ah, got that mixed up, sorry. That was Anderson, not Sanderson. xD
  17. I tried, but I didn't even get to the Brian Herbert / Sanderson books. Children of Dune already dragged at parts, God Emperor of Dune was... yeah, sure... and Heretics just... no. Nope.
  18. Of course it turns out to be a Dream/SuperS adaptation. Le Sigh
  19. For anyone that's interested: Not sure which one that is, but 3 hours? Damn, that's some musical.
  20. I keep staring at that picture of the Sailor Moon musical. I think I need to check if at least one of them is watchable in full somewhere, ideally with subs. I wasn't overly impressed with the singing in the clip of that show that I found on YouTube earlier, but those costumes are just amazing. SU/SM:
  21. Speaking of JoJo's: Yay, I corrupted someone. How much did you read, or just the other Sailor Moon one?
  22. I made the mistake of browsing through YouTube comments on the video of Sailor Moon I've linked in the spoiler post about Steven Universe. Why do I do that? Why do I keep doing that? How is it that I can't learn from past mistakes? Why? WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?
  23. The Japanese version had female voice actors for the Three Lights too.
