  1. It doesn't have to be tied to an objective. Do you even comprehend what you're saying? You're intentionally "forgetting" that XP isn't the only reward you can get from encounters. And even then, so what if the occasional encounter is pointless?
  2. And that's why nobody ever plays any game unless it has Kill-XP. I imagine it has almost nothing to do with whether or not anyone will play the game. On the other hand, Whether or not they see its combat as pointless.... If you use the word "pointless" in a manner that makes the word pointless, you're not really making an argument. First of all, if it's fun, then it does serve a purpose. Secondly, if combat serves to increase the difficulty of accomplishing a task, as in being an obstacle between point A and point B, it's once again serves a purpose. Third, combat in PoE serves purposes beyond giving you XP. Story progression, loot, crafting, quest resolution, etc. Even "trash" mobs serve a purpose as a risk factor involved in exploring. Trying to hide behind the word "pointless" as if not explicitly writing what you mean will somehow save your argument doesn't actually fool anyone, you know.
  3. And that's why nobody ever plays any game unless it has Kill-XP.
  4. And once more combat is suddenly only about XP.
  5. No, it doesn't. There are reasons why people specifically don't want Kill-XP in the game.
  6. You misunderstand. They found that adding a restriction wasn't necessary, because players would restrict themselves.
  7. That's how it used to be. But they changed it. Odd decision too. I assume they found that people won't waste their tactical inventory slots on crafting ingredients, so they'll have to craft only when they can access their stash.
  8. It has been confirmed that there are helmets that provide bonuses in the game. Based on the statement, it seems like they won't be very common, though.
  9. I think the correct way of communicating with Obsidian devs is through Twitter harassment.
  10. *flings poop*
  11. Nice attempt at a deflection, Immortalis. (You don't have to fight them.)
  12. So, your argument is that you don't care about XP, therefore you need Kill-XP?
  13. The point, Immortalis, is that you don't have to fight the wolves. The encounter doesn't have to be fun on its own. If there is kill-XP involved you will fight them for the XP. If there is not kill-XP involved you leave the wolves alone, like a reasonable person would do.
  14. You'll always have the character screen, Sarex.
  15. I never saw that as an issue. If you don't have to look around for stuff it's not exactly exploring, is it? To much density gets you into ridiculous scenarios such as with Skyrim, where you have a bandit camp just below Whiterun.
  16. That is mostly talk from people that don't actually know much about wolves. French for example were somewhat obsessed about wolf attacks against humans and from their documentations we can find records for under 7600 fatal attacks against humans between years 1200-1920, Moriceau, Jean-Marc (2013), Sur les pas du loup: Tour de France et atlas historiques et culturels du loup, du moyen âge à nos jours [On the trail of the wolf: a tour of France and a historical and cultural atlas of the wolf, from the Middle Ages to modern times], Paris, Montbel, ISBN 978-2-35653-067-7). I live area that has wolves and I have seen them in nature and I can tell you that they run away from humans (although it is recorded that wolves that live near humans long time will cause wolves lose their fear of humans gradually) if they have chance (driving them corner or attacking them will often cause them to attack humans doing so). Worst that wolves usually do is to attack yard animals, but even that they do quite rarely. Although when wolves attack against humans they usually attack against weaker people like children about 90% of predatory attacks (cases where wolf attacks human because they think that human is prey), victim has been under 18 and most of cases against adults victim has been woman. Reason for such is that wolves hunt weakest and most vulnerable members of of their prey and that historically children were more vulnerable to wolves as they did go unattended to pick things from forest or herd cattle or sheep on pastures and as such habits have ended in Europe at same has wolf attacks against children dropped (in Asia especially in India such attacks still occur as there it is quite normal that children go alone herd cattle), now days most predatory attacks in Europe happen when children mistake wolf as dog and try to go pet it. And world Eora in technological level where urbanization and firearms have become normal. Can't remember anyone saying that wolves were unstoppable murder machines who literally killed everyone everywhere. Attacks by wolves were common, and still are in developing countries[1]. The idea that wolves living within a four hour walking distance of a rural village in a renaissance-inspired fantasy world is somehow preposterous is actually preposterous.
  17. Wolves were actually known to commonly raid villages and even towns during the middle ages. Like sneaking into Paris and dragging off children. Only with firearms and urbanization did wolves move away from human populations. But I might be getting a bit too academic...
  18. Well, wolves are territorial and that's part of their territory. I mean, maybe they could have them roam, but other than that they don't really need a reason to be there in particular. They're wolves, they do wolf things. You don't have to go down there and bother them if you don't want to.
  19. There is at least some loot in the tower ruin. It's in one of the bricks.
  20. Remember that this is a beta, and a lot of stuff has been added explicitly to give us stuff to do. They are also an obstacle on the way to accomplish your quest. You are also given the option of fighting the beetles or the wolves to get to your objective, and they require different approaches(You can also sneak past everything). I do agree that encounters should be related to the world narrative, though.
  21. Unfortunately, BG-size portraits don't scale very well to PoE. They're the same size as the PoE portraits.
  22. Here you go.
