  1. What do you want? A cookie? I'll take one if your offering.
  2. Personally, we are all circle jerking this thread with our own opinions and nothing is going to change each others opinions. This thread neads to be locked and/or moved to a different forum (way off topic for example), any time another thread like it pops up (and it will pop up again), it should be moved and merged to keep the poison forming here, from interferring with other threads. This is not about the game any more, this is about ideology and political views in general. Agreed, the only purpose I see this thread serving at this stage is causing rifts and negativity in the forum.
  3. So you agree with me this thread serves no purpose other than to incite disagreement? Put another way, if this thread was locked there would not have even been what you said was "insisting that the sexist attitudes affected the game" because it was only upon creation of the thread that such views got mentioned. I totally agree by the way with the bolded and underlined part. Which is my main point and why I said they should ignore both sides on this specific topic because whether sexist or pushing for some utopian or socially acceptable equality in this game should be left to the team. In the end I think leave Obsidian to create it with regard to the world setting as they have done in previous titles which did so well handled in those. But if as I believe it will be a world setting which is dark and themes of poverty and strife, war and a harsh reality society wise then it is unbelievable to somehow imply equality and peaceful coexistence between races and genders. There will be likely racism, there will be more likely sexism or scenarios which gender is used to some advantage. I doubt very much they will craft a utopian world with equality for all. If anything it would be bewildering if went down that route given the social and civilisation status they eluded to prior between regions and even towns and cities.
  4. Of which on this topic, this element. I think both sides should be ignored. Those promoting sexist agenda and those with their own political and social agendas. I would also ask you to back up your claim this thread was created in rebuttle of so called "insisting that the sexist attitudes affected the game" since no mention of this approach was in the first thread post rather than this thread was created and started such sexist attitudes being expressed. In which the reality would shift from created to combat it to created to incite it. Edit: In fact the OP even admits the development team are able to handle this aspect without his aid and has given examples of such.
  5. Oh I don't doubt the teams ability to write a setting and story I'll adore for one second, I was just arguing against what I percieve as sexist attitudes here on the forum, as I think others are as well. So you admit it has nothing to do with the game at all as to why you are here arguing with others, it is not to improve the game, it is to berate other people who happen to frequent this forum or support this game. In which case it has nothing to do with Project Eternity and would be better served on a politically or social mainstream site that is dedicated to enforcing changes in perception. In other words your using this site for your own political or social agenda... Need I remind you of where you are "Project Eternity Speculation & Discussion". So in this new found conclusion shouldn't this thread be locked since what it is being used for is not what this forum is about? Haven't you taken it off topic by your own admission? Which then leads back to my original comment, I do not see why this thread even needs to exist on here. Leave the writers who are more than capable of handling this do so on their own.
  6. I do not see the point in this thread in the first place. People either have faith in the writing ability of the team or they do not, the ones do not are the ones who created this thread and have been arguing a feminist or equality agenda. Seems they have never played a game that Chris and the others have made or simply ignorant to the quality of writing the team are capable of producing. I have faith in the writers, I believe in their ability and have seen them do a very competent job in past games. This is why I think this thread is pointless and this is why pandering to some people's political and sociological preferences in here is a waste of time and detrimental to the game because I know what Chris and the others are able to do. I suggest to those people arguing about it in here trying to push their social and political agendas actually go and play those past games, if they have and still jumping up and down about this then I question their real motives. Obsidian should handle it the way they want to and have shown time and time again they can do very well.
  7. It always slows down at weekends, it also always slows down midway through kickstarter projects. The two do not indicate they have to worry about anything. It will pick up again during the week and it will continue to be slower midway through compared to the begining and the last few days.
  8. I very much agree. Like I said it seems to me there are some here that think the game should conform to their social and political stances despite the harsh reality of the struggle to survive, genocide, murder, prostitution; the reality of some women using their feminine traits to gain advantage in a world filled with strife I am sure will be reflected in the game. That somehow they wan't everyone as equal rights or no racism in that dark and harsh world, no sexism or women that would do anything to survive just like there being men who would kill and butcher people for sport in such a world (don't see any one claiming male murders or rapists in such a world being gender stereotypes). People who think that the values in the game among these uncivilised and non-evolved societies should somehow mirror their utopian level of morality and social justice... I find it strange to say the least because the massive amount of disbelief that would create and destruction of immersion would be immense. Then their are those who are simply jumping on the bandwagon just because of the armour females might wear in the game, I don't see those same people whining about how men are running around with mere loincloth and giant swords being unacceptable to them which is simple hypocrisy. There doesn't have to be silly armours but it has nothing to do with women only, so people using it as example of sexism is wrong. It's just nonsensical armour thats all for any gender. You can't go around saying why do women not cover up in full plate yet ignore when male protaganists do not either. The fact is also there will be some women dressed in very little in such a world filled with hardships and power struggles trying to get ahead and use what they have to gain advantage, it makes sense. In such worlds equality is far from reality and any game with such setting must keep true to the reality of that world, not the ideals of this one.
  9. I think there are many variations on peoples reasoning for x, y or z reactions. From those who want to be immersed in the world, the enviroment and it's lore which have higher regard to characters portrayed as would expect in the theme of the game, the world in which they live in and societies formed with that fantasy world. Then there are another example of those who are more in for the enjoyment of visual aspect and general fun but less interested in the social and economic realities of the world you created. There are also some here that think your game should conform to their social and political stances... Despite the harsh reality of the struggle to survive I am sure will be reflected in the game, that somehow everyone is equal and no racism, no sexism and that the values in the game somehow mirror this utopian level of morality and social justice... I find it strange to say the least because the massive amount of disbelief that would create and destruction of immersion would be immense. If I can't believe in the world because of forced political and social correctness then thats a large detriment to the quality of the game. A good example is the difference between those who would go around the world and read all the books (like Skyrim) they find with lore or stories that take place in the world vs those who just want to kill dragons and see how many people they can hit by throwing sweetrolls off a balcony. In the end with a world that has less evolved and higher strife, where people struggle to get by and others take advantage of the poor you expect to see darker themes played out and in those themes prositution, murder, genocide, brutality are far more common place. In such games such themes should not be sugar coated because it breaks the immersion of the very world you created. In such worlds equality is far from reality and any game with such setting must keep true to the reality of that world not the ideals of this one.
  10. You can manage ignores by: - Click your username in the top left corner of the site ~> Manage ignore prefs Much appreciated, thanks.
  11. I don't want to derail too much, but the early inquisitions were a reaction to a) willful heresy (e.g. Catharism/Albigensianism) b) widespread unconscious subversion of Catholic doctrine through the maintenance of folk beliefs (e.g. I believe the Lord Jesus Christ is my savior. I also believe that the Green Man lives in the woods, that babies are often switched with changelings, and that these herbs have magical powers). Straight-up heresy was often promoted by men, but random folk magic/beliefs were typically practiced/spread by women. A particularly interesting case study of one dude gone off the rails of personal heresy can be found in Carlo Ginzburg's book Il formaggio e i vermi / The Cheese and the Worms. I would say I think you are very well educated in regards to that point of discussion, I am quite impressed really with how much you know about the subject. Kudos to you.
  12. It has been many decades since the 80's and games I played back then but if I recall the first time I saw first person perspective in games was text based adventure games. The kind with text based UI at bottom of the screen (commands like N=North W=West and such) plus line of sight images top of the screen.
  13. I don't see why realistically other monsters, beast and creatures would be excluded from moving into an area just because you cleared it once. I mean when you for example clear out a rabbit hole, it sometimes becomes home to another rabbit or snake, bird or other creature. So there is validity in having other creatures take up residence in a place you cleared. This I prefer to no other creature inhabiting the area once cleared. It does not mean I want Final Fantasy style every few steps you take get random encounter but it does mean it has to be believable to me. If I leave a zone say forest or cave I see no reason why it should remain empty for the entirety of the rest of the game.
  14. Amongst other *ahem* things Dear Icarus loved the sky and look what happened to that poor fellow...
  15. Just remember staring at the sun makes you go blind.
  16. I personally would not like first person mode when in game, it would lead to disconnect with the playing for me if constant switching between view points. I m not saying you are wrong to want or like it, just my personal preference that would be detrimental to my enjoyment.
  17. In all the time he's posted here I've not seen anything that wasn't provocative and / or disputatious. At first I thought he was a clever troll using a .alt then I realised he was just an old-skool troll. Get him onto Stalin. He'll defend purges, famines and genocide. The guy is, literally, vile. I do not think he is a troll. I just think he is misguided and lacks self control. Healthy debate in here has been turned into a constant stream of misleading, melodramatic or pure insulting remarks by him against anyone who does not agree with his views. I tried to look for an ignore function on this forum but appears there is none so I have instead decided to not respond to him anymore. But like I said I do not think he is trolling just a bit immature in how treats other people with different views to his own. Slightly oblivious to his own flaws maybe. I think I will go talk about other aspects of the game rather than be in the same thread as him at this stage. Good luck with the debate if staying to discuss topic, I hope he does not ruin it for others anymore than already has.
  18. Literally no one is arguing for this. I know you live in some ridiculous alternate universe where everyone who disagrees with you wants 22nd century social mores in their socially medieval fantasy setting, but what I want is for the objective reality of the setting (again, not the characters, or the cultures) not to fit with the regressive bull**** y'all are spouting. Okay at this stage I am going to ignore you. You are acting like a child. The only thing your doing is throwing around insults. I am done with you.
  19. ..Don't know why but my mind wandered off and started thinking of voodoo dolls in PE...
  20. If you wish to create a game with social and political agenda attached, modern world issues projected into a fantasy setting thats your choice. You can do it and I would wish you luck (put it on kickstarter and maybe I will pledge or maybe not), however this is not a game being made to further your own political and social standing or views. It actually makes very little if any sense enforcing real world issues (forced equality and everyone holding hands singing the hills are alive with the sound of music in peaceful harmony) into this game when this game is set in a fantasy world with potential a vastly darker setting and non evolved civilisations.
  21. What a shocker, an anti-SJ type is trying to threaten me to keep my mouth shut. Nice. Thats not what I said and you continue to be melodramatic and throwing insults around. I have been forced to report you for doing such. I have no objection to you having a different view than others including myself, I do however take offense at how you express it via insults, vile accusations, melodrama and misrepresentation of my stance; of which I asked politely if you would calm down and compose yourself before continuing the debate only to come under attack by you using those very same accusations and insults I asked you to avoid using.
  22. "How can you be so intolerant... of INTOLERANCE?!?" Did you ever consider that being against "social justice" and "political correctness" literally means being for racism and misogyny? Just a thought. I suggest you go get some fresh air and gain some composure before you post again. Your pretty close to being reported for the belligerent and vile melodramatic accusations directed at people of different opinion than your own. As I said here... @Edited for typos.
  23. I suggest you stop, the only thing your melodramatic ranting is doing is making people decide to pay less attention to anything you have to say.
  24. If you want to make a game that makes a political statement, force your view of right and wrong on the world (whatever the aspect is) then more power to you. But you should not be bullying or trying to force other developers and every game into furthering your own political and social agenda. If you want to make something for that yourself then do so, but this game is not a tool of your political and social panderings.
