I wouldn't. Unlike the golden helmet, there are many gaps for weapons to slide into, it doesn't cover your neck at all and it's made from many riveted pieces, I wouldn't expect it to hold together for long. It just looks like it'd get bent under the first blow and stab and slice your face with all those edges. Being made from overlapping pieces also adds material, so it's likely heavier than it needs to be. Believe it or not, this one is more for show than the golden one.

The lancknecht fashion is exactly right for the "time" of the setting, actually. Of course, nobody says they should adopt everything about the historical period. (and shame people don't like the Siberian one. It's anachronistic, sure, but fnatasy universes usually have several cultures in very different stages of cultural evolution, so it might work for some kind of barbarians)

Bronze age Siberia iirc. There's a whole series of these paintings from a particular website, wonderful stuff.

And he hates swords. Come on! Which reminds me I still have to destroy Avellone for saying swords are lame. :/ I do like the emphasis on different weapons in Torment though. I could however do entirely without combat in that game, so far it's just annoying filler which keeps me well supplied with brass rings and bracelets. :/

So a chick fighting naked to confuse her foes makes sense to you and you're okay with, but a woman wanting to look sexy blows your suspension of disbelief? What? what? What? What? No, of course not. Good grief, read what I write sometimes! A woman wanting to look sexy if she can afford to do so is absolutely fine. A woman wanting to look sexy in combat (for what reason? Is she trying to attract her fellow fighters? To the extent of exposing her body to harm?), or a peasant woman dressing sexy in a society that's doesn't exactly look down on rape, not so much. And that's not the same thing as the monk! Even that, as I said, was an extremely extreme example, which is silly, but at least tries to make up an excuse for the boobs.

Errm, no. It's not cool. It's unrealistic and its point is to show breasts. You emphasize breasts to make something arousing, which is a silly goal for armour. And kind of insulting. Definitely not cool. I don't think that's true, but whatever. The whole idea of a lone hero going at a dragon with a sword is silly. It's not a modern sexist stereotype that's in there to make me feel aroused. It's sexist behaviour which is common in this type of setting. It being there doesn't imply it's good, or that it should be followed. The game may or may not comment on it, it just makes sense for it to be there. Unlike a boobplate. Again, if it made sense for it to be bikini, I might be ok with it. But it's hard to imagine. If a female monk enjoyed confusing her foes by fighting naked (as ridiculous as that sounds), sure, I could understand that. But if it's there just to be sexy and to make my willy jump in mah pants, that's just stupid. Once again I feel that is a matter of reading minds and an opinion, rather than fact. Still, Torment - not my favourite game evar. If I play it (and I am currently playing it for the first time), it's because I heard it's well written. It's a bit sad they felt the need to repeat "babes" twice, but hey. It's still two paragraphs in a whole design document. It's not BOOBS: THE GAME.

Magic is made up to be awesome and allow for the impossible. Boobplate is made up to get nerds off. Clearly, the same thing. Wait. Are you one of those who wish there was an orgasm spell? Or Summon Naked Chick? Yes. At least they made SOME effort to wear some kind of protection. Unlike the nimble tube-top rogue, killing the dragon with a dagger. Hey, I'm not saying I like this either. In a medieval-esque world? Of course. I'm not saying I agree with this thought process, just that it'd be pretty common in this kind of setting. And explaining that skimpy clothing would therefore not be preferred by women in said setting. Yes, you are still the sexist. The monk class as it is in DnD and elsewhere is silly, sure. If they protect themselves thanks to mystical training or magic, it's alright for them not to wear armour. I don't see why he couldn't wear a shirt though, sure. which is why I said I wasn't sure about Torment. It's a vision statement, those are written for a very specific purpose and for a very specific kind of people. I don't know how sincere it was. It might've been. If it was, that sucks. I vaguely recall Avellone being alright with boobs, although I kind of doubt he set out to make a game about boobs, or to market it solely on the fact of it containing boobs.

Indo-Iranian sounds about right, looks way way later than Sarmatian/Saka. My guess would be 16th century, something like the Mughal empire. edit: Google says it's Sind - 18th century. Wasn't THAT far off then. ;P

This was never the issue and it's yet another strawman from you. We're talking armour. ARMOUR, MotherEffer, do you speak it?! A boobplate is not a functional armour design, it's never been used, there's no reason for it. (other than to make your willy feel funny) A woman stupid enough to wear one (no doubt with the intent to look absolutely dashing on the battlefield) would probably die a painful death due to a broken sternum or an unlucky case of poleaxe point through the chest. And even if we're talking about normal day clothing, context is everything. Women in a world which is undoubtedly inspired by medieval Europe (as most fantasy is) would (quite sadly, but hey ho) not choose to wear anything too revealing or sexy for several reasons. One - in a society of very religious people it'd be considered indecent and unacceptable. This is not that important, as religion in PE world may be completely different. Another, more relevant, reason was - unless she had the power to defend herself, or be defended, she wouldn't want to give any guy the hint she's ok with being raped. Let's face it, not even being robed from head to toe always prevented that. So yeah, sexy clothes would make sense for powerful noblewomen (sometimes), naughty mages, priestesses or whores. I'd have to doubt the sanity of any rogue or warrior who'd wear just a tube top into combat. Yeah, no. But do go on, ignore parts of what I write, being selective about understanding text has never hurt anyone. Good grief, I'm not even a feminist or anything. The ****.

"Open minded" is what you're asked to be by people who want you to accept their bull****. Like religion. But yeah, we should be open to the possibility that sexism is actually alright. It's very plausible. Is Torment sexist? Certainly the bit from the vision statement and a couple of female outfits in the game would suggest so. But then there's Fall from Grace, whose character kinda goes against that, so I'm not quite sure. Does Torment have unnecessarily stupid armour design? Again, there is some stupid armour design, but it seems to fit the crazy setting. So, meh, not sure about this either. Does it pander to stereotypes? I thought Avellone went pretty much the other way, or that's what I've read. Torment isn't my absolute fav game ever, but I wouldn't call it awful.

You keep twisting this "discussion" so that it seems I'm just a petty hater of everything that's popular and that I just can't compromise and blahblahblah... Yeah, you know what? I tend to think stuff I don't like sucks. And that's, SURPRISE, quite a normal way of thinking for most people. WHAT?! Someone is not being objective in an online discussion?! Scandalous! So, let me sum it up: 1) Sexism: SUCKS. 2) Unnecessarily stupid armour design: SUCKS. 3) Pandering to sexism and stereotypes because they sell: SUCKS. Yes, truly I am a poopyhead who doesn't compromise and drives all the fun away. That's why we can't have nice things. Like boobplates.

They hire artists who are ok with painting stuff like that if the money's good. Which is the case with huge companies like this. I suppose some of the artists enjoy it too, but I know many who wouldn't do it, not even for Blizzard. I also know some who would do it and think it's wrong, but still take the money. Anyway, fact that it's being done doesn't make it alright. It doesn't say anything about the artists' artistic preference, stuff like that is decided and pushed for by the companies, not the artists. Yes, those evil corporations doing evil stuff just to be evil. Perhaps Obsidian should take a page out of Blizzard's book and then maybe they'd sell more games (and be able to hire an actual QA department). Reality is sex sells and if I were the kind of prudish person who was annoyed by it (I'm not) I'd suffer through it for the extra sales it'd bring. Oh and before you jump in with "well, why don't they just go all the way then?" It's because there's a pretty big gap between putting boob plates in a game and hiring TERA's armor designers. Riiiiiight, keep up with the strawmen. Oh wait, I don't know what that means, I forgot. Anyway, evil? Did I mention evil? I was saying JUST that, these companies sell sex. It's not that they're evil, they sell what the majority is buying. Then again, the majority ****ing sucks, which is why Modern Warfare and other garbage are so successful. I thought we kickstarted this game for Obsidian, because we hoped they'd do things differently. Ah well, I'm just being a feminazi. We want the game to sell better, so bring on the boobplates! BTW: Blizzard and Marvel both suck hard. Blizzard hasn't made a good game since Diablo II and maybe even that is a stretch. The whole superhero comics industry is just laughably bad, with very very few exceptions. But nah, Amurrhica business good! Feminazi bad! It makes a ton of money, so it MUST BE RIGHT! LET'S DO IT TOO! You know, the fact so many humans buy this **** is just sad, it's nothing to celebrate. Sexism, your ridiculous rule of cool, you got it all, man. Helluva guy. edit: ERMAGHERD! Rob Liefeld is the perfect example. :D That guy is rich, he's swimming in money and he's popular. And there's no good explanation for this, other than "People are sometimes dumb.". He's not a good artist. He's pretty bad. And still. I know, I know, sour grapes, sure. So many times this.

<historynazi> Historically there never was any "platemail". Or "chainmail", while we're at it. </historynazi> I liked how they were designed; boob plates and skimpy outfits (which is what you're referring to I'm guessing) are ubiquitous for a reason. All the delicious sexism we can eat, hooray! Skimpy dresses, heels, and pushup bras exist in the real world too; not all women want to look butch for equality's sake. Yeah. Let's give Forton a male thong then!

I've been following that artist for a while, he's very well versed in historical armour designs. You can clearly see what he designed himself and where he took on stuff from the Sarevok paintings and other ingame artwork. (like the godawful shoulder blades :D)

It's interesting to see how some WRPGs move more in the ridiculous design style of JRPGs, while some Asian RPGs have done the exact opposite. The J/W thing wasn't at all why I posted the picture anyway, so no need to get all worked up about it. "Exception proves the rule" points out that sweeping generalized statements are usually wrong at least in a couple of cases, nothing unreal about it. Also, appealing to everyone is a pretty common marketing strategy among game companies (so it must be the right thing to do, right?! If it works for them. ). Maybe PE should be released on consoles, or even better, a console MMORPG. And Obsidian should consider adding Ponies, I hear that would please a rather important demographic. Don't like ponies? Hey, no need to take on that pony NPC into your party.

I think this character is supposed to be blond, the red in the wallpaper is from her soul spell light. -

So, do moar, you rock! :D ) edit: the Deviantart link in your sig does in fact go to your blog.
