  1. This is just a game, not a martial arts simulator. Its set in a fantasy world, with fantasy being.

Did any of you guys wrote strong letters to the producers after watching Armageddon? Complaining that its impossible for the space shuttle to leave low earth orbit and asteroid's debris don't have GPS.

I didn't. I knew those facts but I also knew that sometimes you have to separate reality from entertainment for it to be entertaining.

  2. Just finished my first Kickstarter Pledge ever. Well beeing a huge BG and Icewind Dale fan I had no over choice :)

How do I get the badge for the forum?

You do realize Kickstarter have yet to charge your credit card right. :p

All pledge will only be made after the campaign is over, and Kickstarter start charging all the credit cards. There will be some people who might face problems here and so on.

Once everything settles, then we can start thinking of it.

  3.

Here's a question, what happens after 3.5 million? Will they have stretch goals for 3.6 million to 4 million just in case or just add another big City at 4 million or a Stronghold as big as a big city?

Usually at this point, that's where it stops. You don't want to have a bunch of goals that wasn't attained so you need to find a point to stop.

  4. Awesome update.

Screenshot looks incredible and I really think Obsidian have managed this kickstarter campaign brilliantly. I'm not sure we can get to $3.5m but you just never know!

I'm up to $288 but that's absolutely as much as I can afford!

I thought George Ziets was their last ace up the sleeves, but they really brought out the big guns here. I think we will see a surge that takes us there.

  5. So, anyway here's what I think about the screenshot.

I think its amazing that they are utilizing the latest computational power to create such a realistic looking scene. It really does give a new breath of life to the concept of pre-rendered background. it makes it feel current.

Pre-render scene takes computational time too and so there was a limit to the quality of pre-rendered scenes done 5-10 years ago. With this improved quality, despite the fact that its pre-rendered, really does make this concept feels current.

Anyway, the challenge now would be the real time rendered part. They need to be of such amazing quality to allow them to fit into such realistic background. I'm sure it kills the experience if the background is realistic but the characters are walking blocks. But I have absolute trust in Obsidian to get everything right. This screenshot shows that they are not skimping on anything.

Well done Obsidian! Keep it up.

  6. My greatest hope with Project Eternity and its other KS brothers and sisters (Wasteland 2, Shadowrun Returns, DFA etc.) is that they end up making their creators a nice big pile of cash from after-release sales. This would mean that they get to self-publish their next game using profits from the first one without having to either run a Kickstarter campaign or sell their IP and souls to those big publishing houses in order to release more stuff.

Kickstarting is a really apt name for all this crowdfunding business in this sense, no?

This for me is the biggest thing about Wasteland 2 and Project Eternity that I've pledge. I know there have been kickstarter projects that have successfully been completed such as Faster Than Light, but I think Wasteland 2 is the first big project that have the potential to be bigger than what an indie game would normally be, and then of course comes other projects too like PE in 2014.

So I'm excited to see the real result of a strong crowd funded project.

  7. Hooray for the Adventurer's Hall  Anything more from here on in is like more toppings on an already very delicious cake. I am hoping Obsidian will continue to expand their staff line with more A-listers even after the fundraiser has ended. I think the best reward to everyone is a good game becoming an even better game.

I do have a question: looking at the breakdown of the rewards, will Steam versions of the game still be offered to pledgers?

And to Obsidian: when you love us, we know how to love you back

I believe Steam is an option from the beginning. Once its release, we can choose to get a DRM free copy, or a Steam key.

  8. That's what I thought, but it could have been made more expressly clear as it is slightly confusing. Hopefully projects like this might prompt Kickstarter to re-design the pledge page so add-ons can be added to a pledge in advance before someone is charged.

I agree it would be convenient, but I have doubts that Kickstarter would do that, as they have repeatedly stress that Kickstarter is not an online store.

  9. Yep, this is the problem with crowd funding. You can say that your only obligation is to the fans, but the fans have a billion different diverging opinions. You really, really can't please all of the people all of the time. What 'rubs you the wrong way' is actually the only stretch goal that has me excited.

My suggestion to Obsidian: ignore people who don't agree with me. Its the only way to produce a quality game.

Personally I don't think that's surprising. I mean the internet community, gamer community or any community for that matter, is not a single entity. Its made up of different people and different people have different opinion. I don't see why we would expect a community to agree unanimously on anything.

There will always be people with opposing views and personally I don't see that as a problem. In fact I think its good to have opinions from others who see the same thing from a different perspective, as it ensures that all possibilities are explored, all pros and cons are explored, and we need a community of people with different views to do that. :)

So while I disagree with the thread starter, I am glad he's voicing out his views. In ensures that something is being evaluated from all possible angles.

  10. news on if they're going to continue taking pledges post kickstarter:

@Ink Blot Sorry! Saw that and the slipped my mind about answering. Yes, like Wasteland 2, we will keep on taking pledges / donations after the Kickstarter is over on PayPal. I posted this a bit ago, but this is what Wasteland 2 is doing.

    http://wasteland.inx...ertainment.com/

so i'd say that's a definite yes. they are talking about adding to pledges in the next day or so. but if they're taking pledges, i'd imagine they'll up them as well, since most things have.

    EDIT

i just explained to feargus how the wasteland 2 guys did the post kickstarter pledge additions, and he's sending it over to darren. so there's an even better chance that it will be possible.

Thanks for the update. I'm glad you mentioned the pledge addition because I was afraid that there's some confusion since Wasteland 2 have both feature that allows backer to add their pledge, as well as new people to support them by buying a whole package.

  11.

concerning changing tiers/adding pledges post kickstarter, i'm planning on asking feargus about that the next time he gets on. i even directly quoted one of you guys doing it (the e-mail above specifically), so as soon as i get an answer it WILL be posted in here. a direct quote.

Thanks man. I'm one of those who can only afford a smaller tier right now, but would love to upgrade later on. Hopefully it happens.

  12. Thirding this question. I will double my pledge over the next year if I have a way to do it. I'm just tapped out for the month.

I've asked them similar question, but unfortunately they cannot confirm it at the moment. This was the email response

    Hi,

Thank you so much for your interest in Project Eternity. We are looking into this right now. I do not have an answer for you at this time, sorry. Watch the updates and we will include the information there if it becomes an option.

    Thanks again,

    Trish

    ---

I'm worried. I still have received no confirmation from Obsidian that they recieveD my donation. L0L

I'd like to up my pledge to $165 but can't do that until I get some sort of email/confirmation that they've received my original pledge and time is running out.

I've asked about this on their tweeter

    @Obsidian

Nope, as long as everything went through on PayPal, we've got what we need! We'll also send surveys after the Kickstarter is over

It was the same with Wasteland 2 which I donated through Paypal as well. By just sending your money through Paypal, they will get our email address from the Paypal transaction. Later on, they will simply contact us through this list of email they have.

They cannot contact you now because people may still be pledging and so they have to wait until its over, then they will roll out the email to everyone in the list.

  13. Different people have different views on the matter.

Do I believe that there would be an expansion pack? Yes I always did. (and thankfully not DLC, I hate those).

But if you ask me do I think they should announce it now before the project is done? I'd probably hesitate. There are people who would be excited, but there will also be those who takes it the wrong way and feel that they are being left out after donating something to help the project and not get part of it. I'm glad Obsidian are being honest with us because I think most big Kickstarter projects will have expansions or DLC, the dev probably don't want to talk about it now for good reason.

As for Wasteland 2, c'mon man, that's no big deal. Its not like Obsidian have to help develop Wasteland 2 or anything. Brian Fargo is just offering to give a copy to anyone who help support PE that much, where's the harm in that?

  14. I had the same question and email Obisidan about the possibility to up our pledge, and they say they are looking into it but cannot promise anything yet.

So for now we just have to pledge what we can, and hopefully there will be a system to upgrade in the future.

IF, there will be such system, then yes of course you can upgrade to higher tier and get all the rewards of that tier.

  15. I doubt this game will get much appreciation from MOST of the console crowd anyway. I say most because I know there are those more mature adults who owns a console too, and probably a small group of young gamer who could appreciate a complex isometric RPG game like this.

But that group is probably too small to make the effort worth it. And when you consider that fact that this game wouldn't need the most powerful PC and you can probably play it on most PC or laptop, its hard to justify the additional time and money for it.

  16. I agree that being able to manipulate the game using console commands does make things more interesting, whether its for gameplay purposes or to modify some technical detail.

Mods, thats extremely important. Unfortunately we don't seem a tool to support it. Modding capabilities is one of the most important thing in a video game, because not only it allow fans to create new content that can be shared with everyone, it also allows the community to fix the game where the dev fails to do so, and this is super important.

  17. When will we get a notice from Obsidian that they have gotten our pay pal donations. I got an email from paypal but nothing from Obsidian as Kickstart says I haven't pledged. I just like some notice stating they received the monies I sent. <>

Kickstarter website have got absolutely nothing to do with Paypal. You are not paying on behalf of your Kickstarter account. You are paying directly to Obsidian.

We will be identified by our Paypal email address.
