Are you kidding? -
OK, then. It's just that I'm not eagerly checking news for any Blizzard product. However, the long development time makes me wonder and there have been being plenty articles about this "rumor." In any case, I'll rephrase the sentence to "even Blizzard is often rumored to be planning on possible console ports of Diablo III." you should be, they make great AAA titles.

Do people care about the story?
Subliminal replied to Matt-C's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Troll_(Internet) The definition of troll doesn't apply to whats been said in this thread so far. If anything, your comment fits the definition a lot better. Not really sure what a plant-con man deal is..? Inside joke? Regardless, I think that the concerns me and others have posted are held by a large portion of the PC gaming community (Look at other forums on the subject). -
Do people care about the story?

You guys keep imagining devs sitting there and saying "we want a good story in DS3 so because of that we will kill online persistent MP", but nobody ever said this - not me, not the devs, not the journos. I'm confused as to where you are getting this from. The only limitation that a story focus might have introduced is the fact that you can't have two Lucases, etc. Generally on why DS3 only features buddy-coop and not full online coop, one fact is clear - they have said that it was a deliberate design decision to gear the whole game towards a great couch coop experience, as other games cater to PVP, grinding, etc very well. After that, it's your judgment as to whether that makes a game 'crap' or not. You certainly have your mind made up about that, and I'm not about to try and sell you something else. Well, I imagine they sat down and decided that the game should have SOMETHING. Its not that they said they want a good story, so throw away online co-op; but they did throw away online co-op (for some undisclosed reason). So, we can infer that they wanted a strong emphasis on story from; i) amount of dialogue, ii) radial dialogue choices, iii) initial interviews where the stated they wanted to do homage to the DS lore/ story What we can infer also is that they didn't want the features that they removed from the original games and others of the genre; i) freedom in character development/ appearance, ii) online multiplayer, iii) new game +, iii) post game content(haven't seen anything to completely confirm or deny this, but low level cap and no new game+ indicates that there probably isn't much post-game grinding/ optional bosses), iv) freedom of movement/ exploration What were left speculating is why they wanted to gut the game and alienate it from the roots that made the franchise popular; great story, couch co-op, online multiplayer, new game +/ post game stuff are not contradictory features. -
What? http://www.computerandvideogames.com/29353...3-for-consoles/ They talked about porting the PC game, maybe, later to consoles. Not sure how they are struggling to develop for consoles, considering thats not in the works, and isnt planned until after the pc release (if ever). A considerably different issue than simultaneous development for pc and consoles, with mediocre results.

However a decent multiplayer was sacrificed for storytelling, so not everyone is happy. So as you said your preference is to skip through this in multiplayer, why did so many of the fundamental features of a decent multiplayer need to be left out? I thought it was because of storytelling? but clearly from your post that is not the case. It looks like they put really little effort into this title. They said that we couldn't have persistent characters because it breaks immersion or something. Nobody cares about story in arpgs.. Diablo 1 wasn't a commercial success for its brilliant use of dialogue trees. IT was a hugely commercial success because it broke new ground in co-op multiplayer (bnet). Not sure what they were/ are hoping for, indie games on xbla have better multiplayer than this game will have. -

I loved Dungeon Siege Series , I played it thru many times and I have played Icewind Dale series and the epic game Planscape Torment and of course Neverwinter Nights 2 both "Obsidian Exps" but not the last. I'm really enjoying the Dungeon Siege 3 demo, so much I changed the shipping to overnight release date delivery! I'm curious, What exactly did you like about it? -
Is there a mouse-over information box?
Subliminal replied to Mr. Perfect's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
From my experience with the mouse controls, clicking stuff doesnt effect anything in the game world, hovering over items doesn't display its properties. The mouse doesn't do much really. -

Everything DS was, this isnt
Subliminal replied to dark's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
I feel the same way, I would like to know why they decided to focus on story rather than gameplay, why they thought multiplayer/ character progression were superfluous, and why the new game is fun/great/ not a catastrophic failure. The design choices are theirs, they should have reasons for them; I'd like to hear what they are. -

I don't know how it is on Mars, sorry, but here on Earth people play demos of games they haven't heard about all the time. a shocker, I know Thats not what he said, what he said was, the people who were/ did play skipped the dialogue... Reading is hard werk -

Yeah, nobody I know was interested in story, dialogue or dialogue "choices". Really puts a damper on the flow of an action rpg. Kill 4 mobs ----> Talk----> Kill 4 mobs--> watch bridge xplode ---> talk ---> watch 2d pixel-scene----> walk----> encouter boss dude ---> talk to boss dude ---> kill boss dude---> talk, ad nauseum -
Things you liked about the demo
Subliminal replied to C2B's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
I liked that I could exit the game by hitting esc once, a lot more than I can say about the inventory screen. -
Co-op play (one in each class)
Subliminal replied to Mr. Perfect's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
Thats not the biggest limitation to the multiplayer; the HOST is the only person who keep the progress if you play with them online (you don't keep the loot/ xp). If you want to play with random people online then dont buy this for the multiplayer. -
QFT ...but haters will never admit that. If the game have tons of glitches they deal with the problem and swallow it, except if the game is developed by Obsidian. Personally; think the hate against Obsidian is ridiculous. I read today in gamespot forums that someone made a thread saying that Obsidian should be called the franchise Killer ??? why ? just because the game isn't developed by your favorite devs? ...common some gamers really need grow up. IMO. Many companies make games WORSE, sure, there are thousands of terrible games. But that doesn't mean that what Obsidian puts out is good. If I get a D and someone else gets an F that doesn't make my D look awesome, does it.

PC Demo - Post your impressions.

Technically? Yup. Considering its not a technical term, I'm astounded by your self professed ignorance. bad games by other developers that are pc exclusives are hardly a good justification for a poor game/port/ everything that is DS3. My little pony online sucked, therefore, DS3 is good? lol Well then its beautiful that it is, no? (Also did I do something to you? Bit nicer if possible?) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porting I have seen exclusives that had no graphical options, were locked at a resolution, were nearly required to have a joystick (This actually count(ed) for several Flightsimulators. Granted this also counts for DSIII) and so on. Actually just played A Vampyre Story. Released 2008. Resolution 1024x768. Fun. What I have seen though was in the better half of the "ports" (again meaning how I interpret what ports are since I'm not that informed in the facts) I played so far. Thats also all I'm saying. Naturally I don't defend the pc controls as I critized them myself. Regardless of the control issues, which, while substantial are far less important that the limited gameplay in comparison to its competition (diablo 3, torchlight 2, Grim Dawn, etc). The game could require kinect as far as im concerned as long as the gameplay was fun and the story engaging. DS3 doesn't have a lot of features that the genre has by default (online multiplayer, high level caps, new game+). This is because it was intended as a console game (read: port). This isn't bad in and of itself, but for whatever reasons it generally means LESS features. So if you see posts complaining about it being a crappy port; perhaps they are complaining also about the gameplay. Would a clickable interface and better kb/m controls make this a better port? Sure. An acceptable one? probably not. -

Nope it's not. Yup, it is, for all the reasons I listed. Though you can continue to just say "nuh uh!" if you want. You and that sorophx person argue very similar lol. I was just coping your 'patently wrong' line. Which happens with every game and quite simply has little to no indication of the story. You see they are marketing speak and marketing speak always sounds 1 dimensional. Well, okay; Is the voice acting going to be the same as it is in the demo? Is the radial dialogue menu going to show up every 5 steps like it did in the demo? Are my choices in the dialogue going to matter as little as they did in the demo? Are the characters going to talk in a completely flat an unemotional tone like they did in the demo? Are the characters going to have the same expression on their face the whole game? If yes to one or more of those things than the story will be bad in either presentation or content (its bad on both counts so far from the available info) Marketing is meant to show the BEST parts of the product; you know, like a movie trailer. If the promotional material is bad, then chances are so will the product. Look at the promotional material for diablo 3; they showcase GAMEPLAY and LORE/STORY. Things people will want/ enjoy; people don't want rehashing of fantasy achetypes (10th legion, lmfao).

can't wait to witness the fall of Obsidian by the hand of the mighty DS community Last time I checked, Obsidian wasn't exactly a fortune 500 company. -

this is not a PC RPG. seriously, man, wth were you thinking? Exactly, thats why I cancelled my Pre-Order. This game is insulting trying to pass itself off as an RPG game. Agreed, it is very insulting. Its going to be fun to see the reactions at release, lmao. -

Subliminal replied to kellek's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
no? that's not the point? if you have to make it private to enjoy the game, doesn't it mean that you're wrong and I'm right? the bottom line: having the possibility to join any game regardless of your character's level just for the sake of having it is a bad move, you don't agree, that's fine, keep living in your imaginary world. instead of making a whole system to filter who can and cannot play with you online Obsidian decided to not have it at all. you're saying it's very bad and will ruin the game for everyone, when in fact it's not bad, it's a viable solution and will only ruin the game for you. Look at the post I made right above yours. Seriously, removing stuff so that everyone HAS to play how you apparently like to is hilaribad. And you dont have to make it private at all, in fact, the default setting in diablo 2 is -/+ 5 levels iirc. The fact is that that game had OPTIONS; use them, dont, cheat on open bnet, play single player, play on closed bnet, play hardcore, play with low levels, play with high levels. Removing choice =/= good design. Edit: lol, great minds? -

Subliminal replied to kellek's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
So, the "solution" they chose is the only one that could work? lol, look at FFXI, they have a system that changes the stats/level of you to match that of the lowest level party member.. you get to keep you character/ gain xp/ but have a persistent character. Play with your friends, and your friends only then; no reason to force that on everyone who enjoys playing with random people. Theres no reason they couldn't do both, you could limit the levels of who could join in diablo 2. The "big picture" is that this game is not what it could be; and advocating for less features just makes you look ignorant. -

-Polymorph Spells wut? -Taking back with your character all the things you got playing in co-op you're missing the big picture -No online screen sharing I could agree with that, I wonder if there's a reason behind that decision other than time constraints -Item crafting pfft, pah-lease -Runes never worked in any of the games I've played. imo, leaving this crap out is a good thing -Tons of spells and enough skills for other playthroughs you have four different classes with different skills, that will have you covered for months, if that's the on;y thing you look for in video games -Man/Female for all classes this is just stupid, not going into that, some people really need to see a psychiatrist -Equal XP/Gold sharing in co-op it's not in DS3? so what are the good things anyway? How is s/he missing the big picture? There are 9 skills per 4 classes (36, just in case you needed help) thats about as many as 1 of the 7 classes in diablo 2. Theres no argument for anything you said, "pfft, pah-lease" is an agrument against item crafting? Diablo 2 had crafting, and that game was releases ages ago, lol. not getting rewards in co-op is epic fail; theres not getting around that. Honestly, I hope the SP and couch co-op and story are amazing, I really do. I'm not getting my hopes up though. -
I was referring to a very specific someone- who isn't you. Guess it's the same kind of logic that suggests I'm a fanboy just because I can enjoy a game for what it is. Or the same logic that says 'not what I wanted=bad'.I'm not a korean SC2 multitasking god with 300 APM and reflexes of a ...something with great reflexes, yet I still could get used to the controls in a short time. Funny how gamers lost the ability to adapt nowadays. Theres a world of difference between mastery of controls (SC2 example) and functional controls. SC2 controls make total sense, and didn't change dramatically from sc1/ wc/wc2/wc3. DS3 controls are counter intuitive. Where are my spells? how do I change stances? Why can't I move with the mouse? Why can't I strafe/ move properly with wsad? Why do I need to press ESC 4 times to exit the status screen? The reason people complain about this is because its reasonable to expect improvement/ honing/ streamlining in sequels. The controls for pc were an after thought, and extremely clunky. If you like them, great, but its unreasonable to think that others should too just because you do.
