Would more U.S. troops help stop Iraq violence?
iraq was, by some accounts, the most well developed middle eastern country when saddam took control. he bled it, and his people. taks

The Black Hound FAQ
apparently you weren't a part of the bioware boards when this all went down, eh? suffice it to say, many of us regulars were shocked, dismayed, disappointed and even outright angry. even the codex regulars scorned the interplay debacle and they tend to be generally anti-bioware/interplay (post fallout). we were shocked, of course, but not truly surprised. taks

Magnets can lift anything?
fortunately, the class i'm teaching is nothing more than classical (i.e. james clerk maxwell) electromagnetics with waveguides, transmission lines, etc. we do get into basic antennae at the end of the book, which covers material effects, but none of the previous teachers/professors covered that far (i'm going to try...). mark

The Black Hound FAQ
cool, sammael. one question, is JE planning this on his own, i.e. not with official obsidian support? taks

Magnets can lift anything?
one of the magnet peddlers is actually being investigated for fraud IIRC. definitely placebo. the gravity and electromagnetic effects from the earth alone dwarf anything from a simple bracelet. taks
-
Magnets can lift anything?
based on what i read, the effect is many orders of magnitude lower for non-ferrous materials, so not in vain. magnet worshippers are morons. taks
-
Magnets can lift anything?
no, apparently every element has an associated permeability w.r.t. magnetism. read the wiki article (some of that was news to me, actually). good thing i'm teaching an electromagnetics course this semester, eh? taks

Magnets can lift anything?
i must admit, however, that i had always thought magnets effected ONLY ferrous materials, rationalizing that nearly every living critter has iron its body to some extent to explain the frog phenomenon. apparently this was a bad assumption. taks
-
Magnets can lift anything?
magnets primarily effect ferrous materials, i.e. those containing iron (not just "metal"). nearly everything is effected to some degree. wiki has a nice article on it (just search for "magnet"). taks

Wisdom Teeth
if you were referring to my comment, i was talking the surgery was a half hour. my "i feel better now" recovery was a few days and the effects of having stitches in my jaw were a bit over a week, no more than two. the last week or so was only an issue when i smoked... taks

Wisdom Teeth
bummer JE. i'm not quite sure what they had to do to me, but cut into the bone does not ring a bell. they did have to dig around a bit because all four were underneath their neighbor molars, but it was all over in probably less than half an hour. taks

Sammael's NWN2 Experience
crpg "creativity" is difficult to code for. trying to come up with branches allowing a variety of "guesstimated" choices by players requires a ridiculous amount of effort, not to mention the code base would be huge. we'd need real AI for that to work. you'd probably also want to make some sort of intelligence check, sammael. or at least a knock or two upside the head. taks

i always heard rumors/urban legends that the amount of aluminum you get from drinking a lot of canned beverages contributes to alzheimer's as well. taks

What a Baby is Alive?
in other words, you're just another whiny feminist in male clothing? really now, where did anyone say "dominion over her body"? look up the word hyperbole and try to understand the concept of a logical argument. yes, actually, it does. voluntary by definition implies consent. dictionary.com should be your friend. more hyperbole, and a strawman argument to boot. the analogy doesn't even hold weakly. leaving your door unlocked is not akin to an invitation to incite burglary. having unprotected sex, knowing the consequences, is an invitation. duh. that's moronic, and again, we aren't talking about "recinding" anything. if you are a woman and you have unprotected sex (or sex that would otherwise result in a pregnancy), you have implied defacto consent for any consequences to yourself since you've knowingly invited said consequences. didn't imply any ownership. really, where did i say that? show me, please. taks

Sammael's NWN2 Experience
no, that's to say that i can burn anyone without fear of hitting my own. the easiest way to take down a stealthed critter is to lob AoE spells, but in hardcore, you're taking down yourself as well. taks

Sammael's NWN2 Experience
that was probably the other "tough" fight i ran into. keep in mind, when i did it, i was in normal rules mode so i could lob every spell i had into the group, killing stealthed as well. i will be there soon with my f/wm guy... taks

Sammael's NWN2 Experience
very easy in fact. i played the first time through and the only battle i'd call difficult was the finale, but that was because i made an error in the way in which i attempted to kill the baddy. i did it as a mage on normal difficulty. i've heard that hard-core with a mage in your party running AI is painful since they just dump fireballs on your group. the AI is so bad i'm to the point where puppet mode is a requirement (i'm doing a f/wm this time through). there's nothing worse than clicking on a character and the rest of your party running over, mid-battle, to join him. taks
