  1. I played some more of it. It's kinda fun as an arcade game that I play while listening to podcasts and stuff. The story and the characters leave me cold, I like the style of the cutscenes, but the characters all look ugly. It is really cool to disarm someone and then use the gun to shoot all the other enemies, too bad the gimped the gunplay in the game. I really liked the fighting stuff in Enter the Matrix where you could do a disarm and shoot the guy with his own gun and do all kinds of acrobatics with guns.(a cartwheel with two SMGs is just awesome) Maybe I'll play it some more later. EDIT: While the one-color thing is better than the gray-brown in Fallout 3 and it's kin, I don't think it's all that great. The colors are a bit too vibrant and there is enough bloom to blind a cave-full of drow. Also, it really takes me out of the game when every frickin thing is blue for some arcane reason. I like stylised games(Team Fortress 2, Prince of Persia), but this feels like Mario's ice levels and laval levels. The problem was probably less with not destroying the wall and more on the incessant egging on instead of focusing on something that could be resolved better. I'm not arguing that there weren't good parts, just that it let down as a whole. Still stands as Obsidians finest work. I was also kinda miffed that I couldn't even try to take the wall down, but the endings are still awesome. (The ultimate evil one is really cool.) I can underestand that they couldn't really destroy something so important to the FR setting, but it would have been nice to a) give you the option to try and fail b) elaborate on why you can't take it down.
  2. I picked up Mirror's Edge and played it for a while. Now I want my time and money back. Yes, it is fun when you get everything right in a huge combo, but then you fail the final jump and have to do it all over again. The fighting is horrible and figuring out where you have to go is pretty much trial and error. Also the cutscene anime-Faith looks like 14 year old with stunted growth. I think parkour is a lot better in 3rd person. Is there any reason to punish myself by playing through it?
  3. Who said that I was a *Hater*? All I said was I didn't care for the plot. I'm all for a second Planescape game... As long as it has a good plot. So call me a grumpy old Dwarf... I might have mildly exaggerated with the hater part. Can you say why you didn't like the plot? I though it was pretty unique and interesting. That's the spirit!
  4. Yeah, examples or bust!
  5. Did someone leave the door open and let all the haters in? Why didn't you like the game/story/characters/boxart? Explain yourselves or suffer the endless wrath of a thousand fanboys(and girls). Would you say that the RPGs of today have better stories?
  6. Yeah Silent Storm was awesome right up to the point where the mechs came in and screwed everything up That destructible terrain was so sweet. At least Strategy First had the balls to can the bad versions and not whore the Jagged Alliance name out to make a few lousy bucks. *coughActivisioncough*
  7. They have made like 2 3D Jagged Alliances already, but they are not the "true" sequels(one is called Hired Guns: Jagged Edge). The "true" Jagged Alliance 3 is still in the making IIRC. You can get Jagged Alliance 2 from Good Old Games
  8. This is one game that is truly about the journey and not the destination. In the vanilla JA2 I usually restart somewhere in the Queen's palace. I also seem to remember the Urban Chaos mod being really good. Does that work with 1.13? I don't recall if they are compatible together or not. The recommended install of 1.13 is on a fresh install of Jag 2 gold patched to 1.12. Probably you best bet for stability is not to mix them. You could check Bear's Pit. I'm sure they would say one way or the other. Woah Bear's Pit is STILL alive? I used to go there a long time ago, but it was pretty dead a year ago. I'll check it out.
  9. It's "Fall" Concerning a Planescape action RPG: they were actually developing one for PS in parallel to the PC game we know and love. Yeah, it was supposed to be on PS1 IIRC and the cancellation was probably for the best. Interplay console games were bad to say it mildly(Fallout: BoS, BG:DA)
  10. The problem with most action RPGs isn't the setting, but the horrible gameplay. Just look at Too Human for example, the setting had promise, but the gameplay destroyed it. I'm holding out for Diablo 3. Huh? I always thought the top-down clicky-clicky stuff is horrible gameplay. There's nothing else I can do. I do agree however that TH is some dumbed down bat-****. It's the execution that matters, in the end. So what did you mean by action RPG then? For me it's Diablo 1/2 and Titan Quest style games. Do you mean Oblivion/Fallout 3 style stuff? The top-down clicky-clicky stuff was fun because of all the cool powers and items you had. It is also really fun when you play it co-op. Nah, Diablo is a genre on it's own. I'd call that "Hack & Slash RPG". Action RPG is pretty much everything that let me aim stuff on my own (Bloodlines, Fallout 3, Mass Effect). Then there's that beat'em up RPG Jade Empire. And then there're the "only" RPGs like Kotor, BG, IWD, Fallout etc. Yeah I know, this probably is all silly anyway. Ok, I can see that classification. I don't think that fantasy RPGs work well in first person, though(see Oblivion). Third person works ok, like in Witcher. I can't imagine a Witcher-like game in the Planescape universe. That might be because Planescape is weird in places(gravity is screwed up etc.). If someone went ahead and made the gameplay really unique and didn't screw up the setting, then it could have some potential...

  12. FEAR was an OK shooter with a boring and drawn out story and tacked-on bullet time. The "horror" segments were totally separated from the "shoot-clone-troopers" segments which was really weird and clunky. The expansion packs were much worse though. It also relied on the ever-popular "closet scares", damn I still hate the ladder that had Fettel appear in your face half way up. I don't have high hopes for FEAR 2. That trailer with the giant mech looked exactly like console shooter #6257392. I don't see how I could be scared of a little girl while I'm riding a 10m mech and blowing things up left and right. There will probably be "scary" segments where you gun doesn't work and you will hear some weird stuff through a glowy door. Who loved the dream sequences in Max Payne?

  15. Oh you people! Even on PST's birthday you can't give it a break. Can't we all just agree that it was a flawed game that had a unique setting and a great story? It showed what would happen if fantasy RPGs stepped away from the traditional elves, dwarfs, swords and save the world quests. It is a relic from an older era, showing what could have been.
  16. Ah yes, the old boards were awesome. I remember Sammael and Fionavar from there. Too bad no one managed to archive them It was the first internet forum that I registered to, I think
  17. This would rock. We should start a Planescape D&D campaign and record it. For a very brief time we had two cool PnP sessions going. A D20 Modern thing with the Dark Matter setting run by Nat Chapman and a WH40K campaign using whatever the rpg thing is called for that run by J.R. BEST. IDEA. EVER! Whatever you will end up doing it about, I will listen.
  18. Did they kill your family and burn down your village or something?
  19. Hot scoop: Ryan Scott of GFW Radio fame is putting together ANOTHER podcasts with possibly the old GFW gang. Podcast should be out by late friday/early saturday. Geekbox Radio Next Rebel FM should be out by tomorrow. Subscribe to it in itunes Also the new video podcast from the 1UP show crew should come on Friday. talkingorange
  20. It's mostly because the suits at Ziff Davis mishandled the company, or so I heard. Also dead tree gaming press hasn't been doing so well for the last couple of years.
  21. I understand that you can't talk about the games you are working on at the moment. I was thinking more of a general "Obsidian" podcast where you discuss game development in today's market(consoles vs PC, hardcore vs mainstream...), how games(especially RPGs) have changed and where they will go and what you would like to see. Then you could discuss games that are out now(again RPGs get no love these days) from your unique viewpoint of having created Fallout and Planescape: Torment and so on. Also just general talk about life, the Universe and whatever else.(nothing wrong with drunken nonsense that's like half the podcasts these days). Most of the better podcasts out there are freeform, where there is a general direction, but people mostly talk about whatever they want. The podcasts where a bunch of people are locked into a room for an hour are rarely good. It is much better when the people want talk about things on their mind. You could at least give it a try, if it's really bad and no one will like it then just stop, no harm done. Also nothing beats the value of being able to talk to your fans directly and get direct feedback. This forum is great, but there is rarely a long dialog between the developers and fans. EDIT: If you want some inspiration, listen to a few episodes of the now-dead GFW Radio, the Giant Bombcast or Idle Thumbs.
  22. That's awesome, thanks!
  23. Oookay, that's nice, I guess... Thanks
  24. Hello, Podcasts (pre-recorded audio/video shows) are all the rage these days. I'm sure at least some of you are listening to them. I sure am, they help make my commutes a bit more bearable. Have you (Obsidian staff) considered doing a weekly or monthly podcast about game development, games and the industry? It would be interesting to hear JE Sawyer's, Chris Avellone's and other Obsidian employees' opinion on things and it would also allow you to talk directly to your fans. Also you would get to promote Obsidian and your upcoming games, as well as, get direct feedback from listeners via this forum. A lot of other game studios, such as Insomniac and Bungie are doing it. I don't want you to do it because you feel that you must, but it would be a good way to get your thought heard and to get fast and direct feedback on them. I'm sure there would be a lot of people who would be interested. Just a humble suggestion
  25. There's a virus on both of your links btw. What? It's Game Trailers. I know - I just had a virus warning in both, that there was a Worm in the links.. Tried following them now, but then I didn't get it.. It sounds more like your browser has been hijacked by a trojan or spyware, Rosbjerg. It is/was a known issue. There was also a thread on Neogaf. It was a banner or some other ad-site that caused this. I don't think it was anything serious.
