Unwinnable Encounters?
BruceVC replied to Tsuga C's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I agree with this sentiment, lets have encounters that you cannot win unless you are the right level. Like the Black Troll in Gothic. But if there is an enemy that you cannot ever beat it would just be frustrating and pointless for me.- 137 replies

Norway appoints Muslim woman Minister of Culture
BruceVC replied to obyknven's topic in Way Off-Topic
He is clearly trolling, no one can be so uninformed as to see the Taliban as a positive influence in any respect. Also the girl was shot in Pakistan. The Taliban come from Afghanistan but many of them have fled to Western Pakistan and have influence with the various fundamentalist Islamic groups in Pakistan and they use Pakistan to launch attacks against the Western coalition and the current regime in Afghanistan. So you can't argue that this attack was for there freedom as it wasn't even in there own country. This is about anyone who attempts to speak out against there own anachronistic and polluted interpretation of Islam. -
I see that Time released pictures of Paul Ryan training at the gym, the general consensus is that it makes him appear fatuous and that it trivializes the images he needs to project as a serious politician. Personally I am supporting the Obama\Biden ticket but I think these photo's actually work for Romney\Ryan and he looks more normal and someone I can identify with. The image that Romney has for some is that he is not in touch with the masses, so these photo's for me go some way to changing that view. What do you think these photos do for the image of Paul Ryan and therefore Romney?

Overdone? I can only think of one fantasy RPG that has had a reasonable representation of dinosaurs and that was Storm and Zenir. So yes I vote for them in certain places in the game world I think you need to play more RPGs. I see them a lot in JRPGs, MMOs, and WRPGs. Doesnt matter though, we need dinosaurs. :D Okay I don't remember many(if any) Dinosaurs in BG1&2, Gothic1-3, NWN1&2, Elder Scrolls 3-4, or the Witcher series. So maybe remind me? Two Worlds had some dinosaurs if I am not mistaken

Mega Dungeon Level Size
BruceVC replied to Sensuki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I agree. Good point. I am really excited about the concept of a super dungeon where each level has its own identity, inhabitants and cultures. Thats the one disadvantage about not using the D&D world. We know and are familiar with the likes of the Duegar, Illthid, Drow, Myconids and others so its both exciting and worrying when you meet them as you explore a multi-leveled subterranean maze -

Surge in backers!
BruceVC replied to chisled2bone's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Do we really want publicity from sites like IGN? Without sounding like an elitist jerk, I really doubt the majority of IGN's readers have the capacity to appreciate a good cRPG. They'll just try and twist the project in a horrible direction with incessant cries for stuff like console support, mountable dragons, and multiplayer. Some more exposure on youtube wouldn't hurt though. You do sound like an elitist jerk, though It goes without saying that sites of this sort have a huge reach and a large following - even if only a small percent of their target audience would be interested in P:E, it would still result in a huge amount of new backers. I just think too much widespread attention can sometimes do more harm than good. There's the risk that it'll put pressure on the developers to design the game for a broader audience, thus resulting in an inferior product for people who actually like cRPGs. Lets not generalize, I am a supporter of IGN and other gaming websites. There are many people on those websites who contribute constructively towards the gaming industry and understand exactly what a cRPG is. -
Gods Wishlist
BruceVC replied to Gyor's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I have always found gods of particular monsters as interesting, like a Fire Giant god or a god of Bugbears. Or a pantheon of monster gods -
It must be nice !

I agree with your positive sentiment but the game still has to sell copies and make money before you can say its a financial success for Obsidian. The money committed from KS is development costs. End of the day I firmly believe that Obsidian wants to make this game but they also would want to make money for themselves. That will determine whether these types of development models continue. I am confidant it will sell well. -
I am looking forward to this game. I am going to play Risen 2 and then Dishonored. For those who are interested in a long, fascinating and insightful read about the creators of Dishonored, Arkane Studios, you need to read the article below. It will show you just how difficult the development industry can be http://www.theverge.com/gaming/2012/6/27/3115822/arkane-dishonored-bethesda-origin-crossing-deus-ex-arx-fatalis

Steam wont accept registration code
BruceVC replied to cmh's question in Dungeon Siege III: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
This has happened to me once before, you just need to contact steam support. So create a Steam support ticket and they will contact you and resolve it -
If you enjoyed DA2 it puts you squarely in the "should be culled to prevent breading" group. Gotta be careful with all those bakers around, never know what they'll be cooking up next. Come now lets not be pedantic, we all know he meant "breeding" Sorry, proof reader, it's difficult to resist I'm a little curious, it seems anyone who professes a liking to the Dragon Age series at all gets automatically put into the Bioware 'faction'? I agree, I find the Ops premise generalizes too much. My point is you may think that classic RPG were the best but you can also have enjoyed DA1&2. Why does that put you into the Bioware faction, and if so what does that really mean in your ability to support and contribute towards PE?
-
Hi Op I appreciate the effort and time you into this post. I enjoyed both DA1&2, and I like the option of Romance/Sex in games like BG2 and the DA series. I want Romance in PE. But my favorite RPG is and was BG2. I can clearly see that the later RPG are "dumbed down" versions of classics like BG, IWD and others I am supporting PE because I want the gaming experience of classic RPG. Where does this put me in grouping?

Turkey asks parliament to authorise military action in Syria immediately
BruceVC replied to Humodour's topic in Way Off-Topic
They've admitted the plane crashed in Syrian waters and their story really doesn't make any sense- as if their plane was in international airspace and heading away there is no likely way it could crash in Syrian waters; physics/ inertia and avoidance tactics say that it should only get further away from Syria, not closer. There've also been media reports in Turkey suggesting that the turkish military is incorrect in its version. The Syrians claim they shot it down with AAA, ie basically a very big machine gun, and a short range weapon. That would actually fit where the plane was found better than Turkey's version, and give a reason why they fired (ie it was so close as to be considered an imminent threat). Okay I see your point. But Turkey is still maintaining that the place was shot down in international waters according to both these articles. Anyway I still side with Turkey on this as I consider the shooting down of the place as both unnecessary and provocative -
Please do I always enjoy reading about global food recipes and what I can then make at home myself.

I would say there is a huge difference in the two around foreign policy, but to be realistic we only have Romney's words about foreign policy and not his actual decisions Obama has been more diplomatic and much less belligerent, and arrogant, when it comes to dealing with overseas areas of potential crisis. For example he doesn't come across like the Bush and Chaney era of American politics where the message was " you are either with us or against us For example he accepted that the Russians didn't want the missile defense system should be on there border and backed down He resisted Republican calls to invade Libya and Syria, despite being told he wasn't supporting legitimate newly founded Democracies" (the Libyan air strikes don't count as an invasion) He got the troops out of Iraq and has set a deadline for an Afghanistan pullout. He has resisted Israeli pressure to agree that if Iran crosses a line with there nuclear development then there will be military intervention. He genuinely seems to believe that sanctions and increased diplomatic pressure will force the Iranians to stop enriching Uranium There are other points I can make but I think you get the message. Romney has said that Obama was weak with dealing with Russia and that Obama betrayed allies like Poland by not building the missile defense system. He is dismissive of Russia, and I think thats a mistake Has been much more supportive of Israel around the military solution to the Iranian crisis Doesn't believe that America should apologize for any decisions or actions , for example that absurd movie that was made about Islam recently. Obama seems fine to apologize if he feels the USA is wrong about certain things, I don't see whats wrong with humility Romney espouses the general Republican view on foreign policy which assumes a much more militant and unilateral perspective on dealing with overseas issues. I am simplifying this a little but I hope you get my point

Turkey asks parliament to authorise military action in Syria immediately
BruceVC replied to Humodour's topic in Way Off-Topic
I suspect that the Turkish ambassador might be a bit biased. Would have had more credibility if it had come from the Syrian ambassador For all their posturing, the Turkish military had trouble explaining why the wreckage was found in Syrian waters. I hear you, another issue I have with the Syrians shooting down the Turkish plane is why be so provocative? There have been many cases in history where planes have strayed into the territory of other nations and those planes were not shot down. So what games are the Syrians playing that they are prepared to risk war with Turkey, yet they are quick to apologize and say it won't happen again? -
I have just finished Max Payne 3 and I intend to now start playing Risen 2, I have read mixed reviews about it but I love my fantasy RPG

Turkey asks parliament to authorise military action in Syria immediately
BruceVC replied to Humodour's topic in Way Off-Topic
The Turkish plane was within Syrian air space and thus fair game, despite all the obfuscation and posturing associated with the event. That was tacitly admitted when the Turks found the plane within Syrian territorial waters, though that particular fact never really got reported much, for some reason. This point is in contention. Please provide the link where Turkey admits the plane was in Syrian territory, even yesterday the Turkish ambassador to the UK mentioned that Syrians unlawfully shot down a Turkish plane?
