The concerns people seem to have revolve around safety and fairness. First off, sports are not fair. There are always people that will be faster, stronger, and smarter. No one is evenly matched. That would probably make for a very boring matchup.
I got bloodwork done recently, if my doctor didn't know me she would've accused me of taking bodybuilder levels of testosterone. I'd probably have alot of problems with sports where they test. I was crazy superior to just about anyone in my hockey team despite not lifting weights or doing any exercise besides hockey training, enough to injure people pretty often without intending to.

That was exactly the scene that came to mind for me as well
After having a crying shower from discovering a dead vole bloodying my bed, imagine my horror when I realized my cat had learned how to open the outside door...

This is my experience as well and I also grew up in rural farmland.
My experience with vegans, or people considering it, is also similar with most that I've met wanting meat substitutes. Speaking only for my non-vegan self, I like a good bean burger for what it is but an impossible burger is just so much more what I usually want and that is heavily processed and not healthy. I've dabbled with different vegetarian persuasions but I always end up coming back to meat, provided that it is cruelty free, or at least much less cruel, I mean nature is ****ing cruel as **** but that doesn't mean we have to be.
Yup, they're about as much pets to the farmers I know as cats, dogs and such.
That is a better way to put it, looking for meat substitutes. I tried going vegetarian for about 6 months when I was in my teens, and it was some of the worst times I had.
Besides not liking pork, another reason why I stay away from it is that alot of it here is from factory farms.

Thank you for sharing. The videos on workers' rights and water there are interesting (and concerning) as well (though, some of the titles are slightly clickbait-y).
Regarding highly processed food, most vegan food, such as grains and vegetables, is not processed, same for the older vegan recipes (e.g. Indian cuisine), the rest are at the same level as animal-based products (e.g. cakes or sauces). Also, the plant-based food is cheaper and easier to store (source: 10 years of personal experience without a fridge (got one now, though) - grains and spices last for months without refrigeration, reduced-price vegetables can usually last for a few days to a week, and potatoes specifically several weeks).
Then there is the ethical part (at this point, humans do not have to kill animals for our survival), so here is a video of a happy rescued cow playing with a ball: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJaR9CMnJpU .
Nemas problemas, as you say the titles are clickbait, but unfortunately that is the way youtube works, and if you want to reach people, you have to play the algorithm game.
Sure, if you make everything from scratch it's simply produce, but most people I've come about buy things like vegan sausages and similar things.
I'm grown up on the countryside here in Sweden and know lots of farmers, and admittedly there is a helluva cultural difference, but the dairy and meat cows I've come across are as happy as he is. And they taste alot better than those animals that are raised in those monstrous conditions that there are in those permanently locked barns.
Not quite as cute, but yearly cow-release after winter; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BggwEPzEsbE

My parents love (well loved in my dad's case RIP) shellfish and will eat the hell out of it. I like it when it's been done well, but as a kid my mom would really overcook (and underseason) stuff and overcooked seafood is so bad that even now I am hesitant on shrimp. I do love ceviche and springrolls though.
Which I almost had for dinner, but decided to get Indian food instead. Also made sure to hit up the liquor store and got a few months of booze, pretty sure I ruined someone's day by grabbing the last bottle of green chartreuse lmao.
That chewing gum consistency...

Every time my Canadian relatives drop by, they take the opportunity to feast on shrimp. Every. Day. I don't mind terribly because they make some fantastic salads and other side dishes, but the shrimp I can do without. Mostly because I hate pulling of the carapace bits, it's such tedium. It's fine if they're already peeled, otherwise I'm done after two

To add to the ecology-related articles:
https://www.theguardian.com/fashion/2024/sep/24/where-does-the-uks-fast-fashion-end-up-i-found-out-on-a-beach-clean-in-ghana The reinforcement of the gender stereotypes aside, it is interesting, though unsettling.
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2024/oct/08/earths-vital-signs-show-humanitys-future-in-balance-say-climate-experts Not sure whether the acceleration to the hard-to-recover point is overestimated, but even now, the climate change is noticeable.
I was trying to find an article about the effects of animal farming (aka those torture-murder factories) on the environment (very negative, including air; the prices of the properties around also go down by up to 75%), but the search engines did not favour me today.TLDR: go vegan, use less bandwidth, buy less physical items, recycle what you can, and do not reproduce, so maybe we will not die from the global warming.
I don't know if you like to look at videos, but More Perfect Union on youtube has quite a few videos about those subjects, they're quite good.
You shouldn't necessarily go vegan though, the farming practices of the big producers are wrecking their soil, and have other bad practices ontop of that. It's better to ensure that what you buy comes from sustainable farming practices. Alot of vegan foods are ontop of that highly processed stuff, so if you go down that route you should be wary of that too.

Rather uniquely, the UI exists within the game world so, for example, you’ll actually need to glance down at your quiver to see how many arrows you have left.
Tattoos on your hand reveal your health and active powers, while symbols on your bow reveal your noise levels which are important to keep an eye on if you don’t want to alert nearby predators as to your whereabouts. "
1998 called and wanted it's mechanics back.
Frankly, it's objectively worse, since you don't get to look down at the characters cleavage.

Well, the water in the storm is from the ocean, so to be technically correct the ocean is playing 3d chess and doing a flanking move.

Ah yes, the urban legend of "trickle down economics". Santa is real too, really!
At best it's incompetence, at worst a malicious lie
The government here just released their budget, 60 billion SEK, 27 billion are tax cuts. They are lowering taxes on petrol and diesel, getting rid of air travel taxes, and lowering income taxes, raising the level where you start to pay state income tax, increasing the level where you start to pay tax on savings and more **** in the same vein. Iirc I'm going to get 83SEK per month on my wages, my friend that has his own store is going to get about twice what I get per year, but per month instead. He's equally furious as I am.
These people that love to complain about how bad Sweden has become, apparently has forgotten or overlooked that during the "peak" they are glorifying and want to go back to, had Swedish high income earners pay up to 70% income tax...

OK, and how much do you think the 5090 will go for?
Dunno, kind of feel Intel has to persevere with the GPU division. Not for the GPUs themselves though.
I'm thinking 4K, or there about, you know, for a 1$ per K resolution
Edit; To be fair though, with those specs, that "5080" ought to be called 5070. They're doing it again, just not being as stupid about it.

2999$ I'm guessing, maybe something like that for nvidias own cards on release.
16Gb of memory is really on the low end, that is really depressing.

From what I can find out online, for the most part, but there are some specific exceptions carved out for certain states. For example, I just read that there is a law in Illinois specifically allowing chiropractors to be able to advertise themselves as offering "physical therapy" despite having no degree-holding licensed physical therapists on staff. I'm not sure exactly why Illinois is giving a bigger platform to chiropractor hacks, but yeah, I guess it'll depend from state to state.
I'm not surprised chiropractors managed to do that, they're pretty good at finding cracks and weaseling in.

For what it's worth, I've worked with...nine different PTs over the past six years or so, and I'd say six of them were somewhere between bad and terrible at their jobs and only made my injuries worse. But the other three were good at diagnosing the root issues of injuries and how best to work with and through them, understanding personal limitations and what was too much (or sometimes too little!), gave very personalized care that wasn't just rote nonsense from what they studied, usually had a very hands-on approach as warranted (as opposed to the types who just...stand back and tell you what to do while chattering on and on until your session is over), and ultimately were genuinely helpful. They didn't cure my chronic pains, but they did help make them better and life a bit more tolerable. If you or someone you know tries PT and you're not feeling like you're making any progress over a month or two, just...try out a different one - the level of knowledge, specific skills and abilities, overall approach to your care, and even just the ability to notice what's working and what's not can vary wildly from one to the next.
It's a protected profession over here, like doctor, is it the same over there?
I've had good experiences from my PTs, they helped me out with my back alot, working on problems with my shoulder right now. I'm not overly fond of chiropractors considering their origins, and I've never heard of one actually giving patients permanent solutions but people have to keep coming back. And I don't know of any licenced PTs that have killed or permanently crippled people.

The same thing has already happened multiple times in recent memory, so it's nothing new really. Is it really any different to just 5 years ago with the 5700 XT, a decade ago with the RX 480, and going further back, the 3870? Doesn't feel like it. The mainstream gamer will be find and well catered for by whichever products they'll likely release.
They try to create a halo product that matches nVidia's best when they can, but if they're way behind in a particular generation, they don't bother. Yeah, it hurts the Radeon brand in terms of it increasingly being viewed as just a value product, but it's not like it has much cachet right now even with the existence of the 7900 XTX.
It's their timing and pricing that ****ed them over more than anything. They barely undercut nvidias cards and had less features, so why not spend the extra 100$ and get good ray tracing performance, DLSS and their other features. And they were nowhere to be seen when nvidia released their 30-series cards, since there was nothing to go on, I bought an 600$ 3080, waited for several months for the delivery, and shortly before I took delivery of my card AMD released their products.

I will be 56 soon.
Meaning hubby will be 59 next year. I suppose I might look "50ish" to most people these days. But at least I still have almost zero wrinkles. No anti-wrinkle creams needed here. So there.
The other day:
Hubby: "It's going to suck if/when one of us wakes up to find the other dead in bed/couch/floor."
Me: " ...... um,. yes?" (not sure what you say to that, heh)Hubby's the far less pessimist/cynic in the relationship but his back is still getting him down/he kind of refuses to accept the situation in a way, yet. He's trying chiropractor again for pain management but I don't think it's doing a thing.
Did he ever try physical therapy?

i accidentally played through (almost) all of Fallout 4 again..
I read about the Fallout: London mod and wanted to try it. Turned out that installing the mod on the Steam version of Fallout 4 was kind of a hassle so I checked out GoG and luckily they had a sale for the GOTY version of the game for like 8€. I bought and installed it and was ready to install the London mod when I realized I had never played the official DLC's before.. so I decided to play a little just to try them out and see if they changed the game any.
Why didn't anyone tell me the Fallout 4 DLC's were actually good?? The Far Harbour one especially, but I didn't mind Nuka World or that robot thingie either. Anyhow, long story short, I can now chalk up another 100 hours played in Fallout 4, making it my most played Fallout game ever by a mile.
How I wish some clever modder would convert Fallout: New Vegas to the Fallout 4 engine and maybe update the textures a little bit too.. I just can't get into Vegas anymore, the combat feels like a chore instead of fun. Compared to Fallout 4, they are worlds apart and not in Vegas' favour.
Look up Project Mojave, and there's also https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/85307
