  1. Baldur's Gate EE on my Nexus 7 tablet.

Fair play to Beamdog, it's ludicrously easy to play and looks great (even on a 7" tablet). So now I've got BG wherever I go, I hope they do the same for BG2.

For all the talk about their PC versions, my impression is that the tablet ports are really the key selling feature of the Enhanced Editions. Cool for tablet owners.

  2. Tigranes is on the money when it comes to difficulty in Risen 3, it really is too easy. I'm not sure if I agree that Risen 2 is too easy, the first hours were as brutal as any other Piranha Bytes' game due to a mix of systems strongly limiting your abilities and not being familiar with enemy patterns and quirks, which were much more pronounced than in Risen 3.

  3. I actually think the fists might be categorized as a melee weapon, because I could definitely use those abilities in combat with the monk. Right now I feel it's a pretty bad class though, there's almost 0 feedback on when you get wounds, and (and I guess this might be just down to how damage is tuned in the current beta build) the spikey-ness of combat made me feel like I never got to properly pace out my ability usage. It's always either "no wounds, I guess I can't use anything" or "oh god, I have to use my wounds FAST, but none of these options sound appealing!"

There's promise, but right now it's not working very well for me.

  4. A little surprised this game is getting so little discussion.  RPG forum, RPG fans (for the most part), RPG game.

Risen 2 disappointed most PB fans, and this is built on the same engine and has the same (but tweaked) gameplay and assets. Plus, it's been released in 2014, which is shaping up to be the best year for RPGs in a decade.

  5.

Okay I remembered. Today's PCG article about PoE said that a backer beta for Mac and Linux are expected to follow Windows "within a few weeks."

Interesting, but I don't believe it.

That's more or less what Obsidian said on the matter:

Initially, we are releasing the Backer Beta on Windows only. We are still working out a few kinks on Mac and Linux, but we expect that we will be able to release those a few weeks after our initial release, if not sooner. We want to get Mac and Linux players in the game as soon as possible too.

  6. For a horror game, they completely failed to make these trailers scary or creepy in any way whatsoever.

I don't think this is going to be a horror game. There used to be some job offerings on BioWare Austin's page that implied their next game would be a multiplayer action game, and this looks like it. Bunch of kids with superhero powers fighting in arenas/possibly in co-op? Sounds feasible to me, but we'll see.

  7. To be honest this is one of my few concerns with the game so far from the video we have seen.  The fog of war does seem a little closer than needed and maybe should be a little farther out. It is a minor gripe though.

Josh said on Something Awful (currently behind paywall) that he agrees and it's something that will be changed for the final release:

There are two radii for fog of war. The "dimming" gradient happens from the inner to the outer and right now I think the inner is too small.

  8. Uhm, no, there's no clause that says a company can't go to Kickstarter with a license (provided, obviously, they've worked it out with the license holder, gee). It's actually already happened. Now, is it desirable? Eeh, I don't know, but it can happen and Feargus actually hinted they were in talks for a license last time he talked about another Kickstarter.

  9. Combinations aren't really needed, if we take it more as a support picture to the descriptional text that appears on the right, not as an actual preview of your character. Said preview could instead just be the portrait (like in the IE games).

But this is simply not true, you need to see your character's race, your class starting gear, how the portrait will fit your character, etc. A paperdoll model was also present in the IE games, by the way, so it's not like they're breaking tradition.

  10. To visualize all the character creation choices you'd need a huge number of sketch combinations. Comparatively, the character models looking a bit weird there is something you're focusing now only because so much time was spent on character creation in the videos: spent one or two hours in the game and you're probably going to stop caring (I don't think the inventory is an issue, the model is smaller there).

Of all the problems listed in the demo so far, this one ranks pretty low imho.

  11. Hey, if you're going to murder companions just because they're creepy and screwed up, then you'd end up facing the king of shadows alone with the animated suit of armor.

Fighting the King of Shadows solo sounds like a cool challenge. Pity it's impossible. :( OBSIDIAAAN
