  1. No I was just poinitng out that the article didnt drool over the game because it doesn't have the backing of one Crysis say. That's why the preview is so frank and devoid of hype.
  2. I wonder how Guild Wars is going, that was the only MMO I supported for its free to play approach. Otherwise paying monthly to play a game is
  3. Oh I forgot to say that every game title is a link to its review (in Serbian) so dont be surprised if you click on something and get a page of text you don't understand at all :D
  4. Thanks. I don't know much about the indie scene, but I will look into it when I have time... And a separate section for notable hybrid games might be in order as well... I would have done the previous years as well, but the online archive of the mag goes only as far as 98, like on most other game sites. That info is hard to come by.
  5. I think its not the same reviewer. The guy that did all the reviews for RPG's quit about 2 years ago, which is a shame as he would have rated MoTB higher. The new guy is a bit strange. Also the guy who reviewed Fallout 3 is neither of them which is the reason for its vastly inflated grade, along with the fact that the game was heavily advertised in these parts. I even almost bought it. Ugh.
  6. What did you think this thread was about when you wrote your post?
  7. Touche. With the fancy slanting thing on the e.
  8. The fact is everything is stealing aspects of RPG's today at least in some form of character development so finding what a pure cRPG is isnt exactly easy.
  9. Who knows. Deus Ex was too much a FPS to be included I think. I'll have to put in System Shock then, as well and then all sorts of hybrid games might have to be considered.... I wrote about the stars in my first post. The mag stopped grading so I gave the stars based on my impression when reading the article. Luckily that lasted for a short while. The highlights are games that got above 90%.
  10. Yes that's more obvious when you see it like a list. It boils down to Bioware and Bethesda for the last several years.
  11. Here, an HTML. Its too large for a regular post. Does it work? If not, I'll try to paste it. List.zip
  12. Err didnt know where to put it but anyway: I kept tabs on RPGs as they were released since 98' and compiled them into an excel list folowing the grades of a local pc magazine. I think this list has absolutely all cRPGs - MMO's excluded, but feedback is appreciated. The other columns are for perspective: I for isometric, P for first person and and T for third person. The second column is type of rpg system that drives the game: A for action (diablo clone), K for classic (first person Morrowind like), J for jRPG, D ofr DnD and O for other. The categorisation is just for the purposes of getting a general idea on what the game is like (I made it up). The three dot system is when the mag stopped giving numerical grades and are my impression based from reading the article. The black and gold games are the ones who got above 90%... And that would be it, enjoy Excel_RPG_lista_1998_2009.zip
  13. Of course we are. We're pro RPG players and cant afford to skip a game on account of not liking it.
  14. In certain situations perhaps. Russian ultranationalists hate islam with a passion and the same applies in reverse. But your point is valid
  15. I just got my hands on the german RPG Drakensang, and I've only words of praise of for it so far. The interface and controls function much like NWN2 although they are much better implemented, the graphics have a very pretty fairy tale quality (engine optimization is great), the music is relaxing, and the character creation and stat system complex. I've heard the story isn't the best but I play this game much like Icewind Dale for the fun of an old school RPG romp.
  16. It will be better than Mass Effect but that doesn't say much as Mass Effect was the worst game they ever made. It was too short, too easy, the story was recycled, the characters were recycled, the dialog shallow, and the world building attempt was a failure when you realized that all there was to the world was one shiny space station and a dozen character models of various aliens. Also it had the worst optional content ever for a Bioware game, and all the so called exploration amounted to the same thing: drive around, loot a corpse, find some rocks, kill everything in the same dungeon, bail out. Now let me lay my sledgehammer aside and say that in Dragon Age, the one thing I don't trust is that its also Bioware world building. The back story doesn't seem either fresh or original. But that doesn't have to mean anything, they could get it right this time. The fact that you can take only 3 characters with you is also irritating, (and if you keep the steroid enhanced pit bull that makes for 2). The origin stories will also chew up a lot of the games resources (to make them all a seamless fit), and we'll just have to see how that all works out. And yes - well noted that the graphics look dated. Barely above the Witcher's level. In fact the game has to be released soon, because the graphical side will be hopelessly outdated in the coming months. They say its because of massive battles, huge environments, yadayadayada but the fact is we'll know whether it was carelessness (and an issue of priorities) or a necessity when we get our hands on the game.
  17. Err no in CoD4, the US and the British (the last mission in the game is a joint operation) saved the world from evil Russian ultra nationalists (whose leader has an Islamic name btw which makes no sense whatsoever), and the good russians, which were shown as lame and incompetent come only at the very ending scene, like cops in a n action movi. Also russian ultranationalists were working alongside islamists, which is the most absurd idea ever and shows total disregard for reality.
  18. Well if I were to separate game maturity and real world maturity, the only moderately mature game in a real world sense (meaning it tries to go beyond a mere game) is Torment. But its so out of place amongst everything else that I don't know how much its applicable to the "what makes a game mature" discussion.
  19. That's the trouble when excessively playing Bioware games. People develop this condition where, an RPG must look like a BiowareTM product, with a save the world TM plot, in which there is a fuzzy romance TM, likeable replicas of past characters TM, identical plot progressionTM, same but ever devolving gameplay TM and needless drama TM. That said Baldurs Gate II is still one of the best games ever made.
  20. It was hell compared to games that came afterwards. Or rather they were a joke compared to it.
  21. Right. My bad. I guess, this is the way they test the public's opinion. Try something unreasonable and look at how strong the reaction will be. Repeat enough times and the will of the consumers might let it slide. Or not, hmm.
  22. You're reading my thoughts. Not that I'm complaining, though I prophesy this action/movie style gameplay will get really old really fast, as more games start copying it. I couldn't bother replaying Mass Effect for all the cutscenes I'd have to skip.
