That's what you get when you live in a frakking 3rd world country. Any decent modern society has job security to the point where firing someone for not working overtime would render them liable to pay compensation due to illegal termination of employment. If you happen to live in a such country and are tired of taking it up the arse then get organized, that's exactly what unions are for.
Hmm, interesting take. Indeed, I see still a lot of movie directos and screenwriters in their late 70s, while I doubt you will see people the same age working as a texture artists or prop modeler in the game industry.
I have done my share of art in the past myself (only self-interest) and I know how painstaking and laborious it can be to do grunt work, as opposed, to say level design, which I found (at least in the old UT/Quake 3 days) very rewarding and exciting. Well, the processes have changed a lot since then.
