Hey guys, So... I accidentally closed out of the tab where I was working on this build. Bit of a bummer there, I lost all of my progress on it. The long and short of it is I'm working on a Holy Slayer build for my Principi character, because I want to play a tank that can still pressure enemies and put out a fair bit of damage. I've considered Darcozzi as my Paladin Order purely for the flavor of it, but I'm open for considering Bleak Walker as well - I just don't know if it'll fit that well thematically, and I kind of don't like being limited to aggressive/cruel ALL the time. I'm heavily inspired by Ascaloth and 1TTFFSSE's "Cunning Duelist" and "Faceless Dancer" builds respectively in creating this, so credit goes to them. This is a heavy WIP, and you all more or less have gratis to tear it down and help build it up into something wonderful. Got a better subclass suggestion? Got a better stat spread? I'm all for it. The basics: Blessings: Bonus Attributes, Skills, 5000 starting gold, unique item vendor. Class: Darcozzi/Trickster Race: Oceanfolk Human (Largely an aesthetic choice. I hopefully won't be Bloodied enough to really use the ability that much, but it's nice to have) Culture/Background: Deadfire Aristocrat (Purely for RP purposes). Skills: Athletics/Mechanics and Insight/Intimidate - Serafen can handle Stealth Attributes: Oooh boy, here we go... Might: 10 (4 Base +1 Human +1 GotM +1 Chameleon's Touch +2 Berath's Blessing +1 Permanent Stat Boost) Con: 10 (7 Base +1 Effigy's Resentment (Durance) +2 Berath's Blessing) Dexterity: 14 (10 Base +1 Deadfire Archipelago +2 Berath's Blessing +1 Chameleon's Touch) Perception: 20 (18 Base +2 Berath's Blessing) Intellect: 20 (18 Base +2 Berath's Blessing) Resolve: 20 (18 Base +1 Human +2 Berath's Blessing) Ooof, that's a low Might. But in return, I have an extra FORTY WILL. FORTY. WILL. Reflex isn't that bad either, but Fortitude is going to suffer a bit. This character is not intended for solo play, so I'll have Eder around for those pure Might checks that aren't Watcher-only. Also, I hope Con checks don't show up very often. At Level 20 with GotM and Effigy's (Durance) as well as Tough, HP is 338. Abilities: Level 1: Flames of Devotion/Crippling Strike Level 2: Deep Faith Level 3: Escape Level 4: Blinding Strike/Zealous Aura Level 5: Dirty Fighting Level 6: Inspired Triumph Level 7: Confounding Blind OR Gouging Strike/Eternal Devotion Level 8: Riposte Level 9: Weapon and Shield Style Level 10: Persistent Distraction/Scion of Flame Level 11: Greater Lay on Hands Level 12: Glorious Beacon Level 13: Deep Wounds/Inspiring Beacon Level 14: Shadow Step Level 15: Tough Level 16: Virtuous Triumph/Two-Weapon Style Level 17: Bear's Fortitude Level 18: Snake's Reflexes Level 19: Deathblows/Stoic Steel Level 20: Bull's Will I'm prioritizing getting attributes and abilities down before moving on to work on gear. The abilities are definitely subject to change - I'm not sure if any of the Paladin stuff has been nerfed, or if there's Rogue stuff I ought to be taking (Though I'm mostly using my Guile for Trickster abilities, which are automatically granted at each PL). Curious to hear your thoughts and feedback.

Hmm, alright. Man, it's kind of funny how Trickster became more or less the go-to Rogue class after it got buffed. And, I think you've beautifully addressed what I was looking for - someone to set the encounter. With my Marauder, I was letting Eder engage, and having to dance around with the rest of my party to avoid getting hit. Now, important question. Would I still be able to get away with Scordeo's Edge and Pukestabber? Because that weapon set just SCREAMS pirate. Pukestabber is excellent on trickster based Holy slayer because the Dagger modal gives +10 melee deflection and if you are doing a build around riposte which you probably should if you are a melee Holy slayer that is excellent. As a fast weapon it is great in the offhand for full attacks too. The only problem with Pukestabber is one damage type and not the greatest penetration. But Scordeo's Edge, although an excellent weapon also suffers from this penetration problem on PotD sometimes. This is mitigated by Razor Hot Skewers food I think, which all in all is probably the better choice of food and more healthy than alcohol. Hmm. What would you recommend weapon-wise, then?

Hey guys, So... I've been struggling with a Principi character for a long, long time. What I mean is, I've been having lots of issues with coming up with a class/multiclass combination that synergizes well, and speaks to the idea of a pirate character. Thankfully, I've narrowed it down a bit, but I'd kind of like to get some opinions from the roleplay side of things. Which do you guys think would be more interesting from a roleplay perspective? 1. Marauder (Berserker/Streetfighter): What I'm currently playing with - I just cleared Maje Island with it, and the dispositions lean pretty heavily toward aggressive and stoic. This presents itself as a fairly standard brute pirate, and while I like the damage it gets, I've found it a bit harder to really get into the roleplay, because the level of nuance I want from my characters is harder to justify with such a character. 2. Shadowdancer (Streetfighter/Nalpazca): The "Edward Kenway" approach to piracy, a man with a quick wit and roguish charm but a simple upbringing, who enjoys a good drink and a smoke of Whiteleaf. Fights with a Saber in one hand, the Pukestabber in the other, and is rarely sober, but always deadly. Assassin's Creed IV, while definitely not a masterwork, was a rare gem among a rather bland and token series, and Edward was a big part of why I liked it so much. Dispositions would probably run Passionate, Clever, and Aggressive. 3. Holy Slayer (Darcozzi/Streetfighter): Lots of Streetfighters. Sensing a theme? This is more along the lines of Furrante's version of piracy - the exile noble, the man of wealth and taste, for whom piracy is... something of a leisure activity, rather than a means to make a living. This presents a focused set of dispositions - passionate and clever. That said, I tend to favor Aeldys's vision of the Principi, so I'm not as inclined to play a character who might ideologically align with Furrante. So, what do you all think? Personally, I'm leaning toward the second or the third.

Yeeeeah... I was so hyped, and then I started and it's just like. "Where did that go?" That said, as I mentioned I might just need to gain a few levels and unlock some more skills to really get into it. And I DO like doing DPS. I really do. Right now I'm just looking for something that embraces the theme well. SO I think I need to admit to myself that I WANT to play melee DPS. I like that role. I suppose what I'm wanting isn't so much a class that has something in his toolbox for every situation, moreso one that fills the role with a certain degree of panache and style. A "roleplay build" that's fun to roleplay. With all of that said, I've more or less narrowed my choices down to three potential builds, all based off of different aspects of the thematic pirate. Marauder: The dirty, half-toothless brute pirate who just gets more and more excited as blood gets spilled. Shadowdancer (Nalpazca/Streetfighter): A constantly drunk, constantly high barroom brawler. The "Edward Kenway" approach to piracy. (Scordeo's/Pukestabber) Holy Slayer (But GOD do I hate that name) (Darcozzi/Streetfighter): The "Man of wealth and taste," exemplifying Furrante's ideal of the exile noble type pirate. (Scordeo's/Grave Calling) -- Only thing stopping me here is that Darcozzi's LoH buff doesn't seem that good. What's consistent throughout is that I want to play a Streetfighter, so at least we've determined that. It's just a matter of figuring out what I want to pair with it. At least I've narrowed it down somewhat.

I was thinking that something like Ascaloth's Harbinger build would be kind of fun. I trade damage for being a melee CC, locking down enemies with lots of afflictions. And it can even do fairly respectable damage in its own right later on, just not as much as Marauder. Plus the synergy between Rogue (Good crit-fishing ability) + Skald (Phrases on crit and reduced phrase cost for offensive invocations) seems to be pretty solid. Hitting big numbers with Barbaric Smash and Frenzy and stuff IS a lot of fun. But not if that's all I do. Now, keep in mind, I'm low level on Marauder yet, I haven't unlocked Barbaric Smash or Confounding Blind, so I'm not sure if it comes into its own later and I just haven't hit that point. And as someone said, once you hit your -50% Recovery, nothing compares.

Making random jokes and sometimes acting in a way that's not entirely appropriate to the situation makes you "Clever." Yeah, and you're right - it doesn't always necessarily HAVE to be all or nothing. For instance, when I handled Rinco, I wound up giving him his money, because - assuming he was being honest, and with his wife probably dead I had no reason to believe otherwise - his son would be just as homeless as he was without it. And my Watcher, despite being aggressive, isn't about to let a child be homeless just because his father's a postenago.

Hey, Just wanted to thank you for pointing me toward your Cunning Duelist build. I've been looking at it, and to be honest with you it really seems to fit the aesthetic I'm going for - the idea of a "Man of wealth and taste," so to speak. I'm also a big fan of the one-handed style focus, and the lack of reliance on DoC Breastplate. It breaks a lot of the "rules" about builds in this game and, as you've said, offers a lot of options for debuffing enemies, especially with the Trickster buffs (Which render the 10% loss in Sneak Attack damage hardly a downside, really). It's flexible, can dish out Afflictions targeting all six attributes, as well as just flat out lower attributes with Wondrous Torment, and has access to AoE Charm. AoE friggen Charm. Plus it uses the ring of money, which is kind of awesome. The only thing really stopping me is the super low Resolve (Purely from a roleplay perspective, though I could definitely see a suave and debonair swordsman being a bit of a coward as well) and, to an extent, the HP - though that mostly comes from playing a Barbarian multi and having almost twice as much HP as this character would at level 20. One of the biggest things I want to avoid is something like my PoE1 character, who was the epitome of a glass cannon. I could do some pretty cool stuff with him, but it seemed like all an enemy would have to do is sneeze in his general direction to cause him to crumple. So, whether I decide to go with this build or my, admittedly VERY overtuned, Marauder build, I just don't want to end up in that situation. ((And, just to stroke my "I like big numbers" ego a bit, please tell me you managed to land some pretty nice crits with that badass looking rapier))

A) Yes. B) Isn't that how most actual people are? Virtually nobody is steadfastly devoted to being, say, "Passionate" or "Shady" in all circumstances. (That said, it is fairly arbitrary which responses get tagged with a Disposition and which ones are Disposition-neutral. I don't fault anybody for turning the UI option to display them in advance on, at least until they have a very good sense of how Obsidian writes these things.) Says you. I'm going to dedicate myself to being as shady as possible ALL THE TIME so that no one will suspect a thing when I actually do something bad! ... Okay, maybe not. That said, I do think playing with that feature on would help, and also deciding on a sort of "Paladin-like" two dispositions to aim for at character creation, just to create a more focused narrative feel.

Hey guys, So, I've been playing a Marauder for a bit (I just hit Level 6 today) and I'm in Neketaka working on getting some new gear and earning a bit of coin. However, I've been running into a bit of a problem when it comes to combat. When I get into the groove of things, with Carnage going off and enemies exploding into chunks, it's a lot of fun - but other times I'm left feeling like there really isn't a whole lot for me to do. I'm about to get the Devil of Caroc Breastplate, which will allow me one more Barbaric Blow per combat, so that might help some, but there's still this feeling that, compared to the bag of tricks my Wizard has, dual martial melee just lacks a lot. It's big numbers, and I like big numbers, but that's more or less all it is. I've considered running with Ascaloth's https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/101088-class-build-the-cunning-duelist/ build, because it seems like A: It's thematically appropriate to what I'm wanting to do - a pirate character B: There's a lot more FOR me to do, and there's a lot more synergy between the weapon selection, skills, and such. The only issue with that would be that I'd have to do the Digsite again, though frankly I'd probably just skip it at this point. I've done it twice. I know I /can/, I just also don't want to waste the coin on ANOTHER Cipher merc to cheese the Drake encounter. I am going to miss hitting 50+ damage attacks with unenchanted gear though.

I'm wondering if I'm not understanding the disposition system properly. So... I seem to run into this problem with every character I play where I get this weird smattering of dispositions across the board. So, I'll be going for an aggressive sort of pirate/barbarian character, but because of what the game determines an 'honest' response, I'll wind up with one fourth of my "Honest" bar filled in. Or I'll be almost done filling out Passionate, and have a few points in Stoic from when I picked "Say nothing" during one of the god conversations. Is this a common issue? Am I supposed to read this as "My character is woefully inconsistent" or see it as "Sometimes my character decides to be honest to certain people, otherwise he opts to lie," or "Sometimes my character decides to act with diplomacy and calm while other times he opts to act aggressively"?

I've been giving it a read. It does look really neat. Shame you have to get Principi Rep so low to get Gipon Prudesco, but I do like the idea of a build that doesn't rely on A: Dual wielding and B: The Devil of Caroc Breastplate (I feel so bad not letting her have her revenge...). I might have to give this one a try. The only issue is going to be clearing the Digsite. Again.

Hey guys, So, I'm a little bit into a Principi character, and I'm having to admit that while the build I'm playing can definitely dish out the hurt really well, it's kind of a slow start because I'm mostly auto-attacking after Afflicting and using Barbaric Blow for big chunks of damage. Now, a lot of this is probably due to gear quality, and I fully acknowledge that, but I can't help but feel like Barbarian/Rogue is somewhat... lacking in terms of its toolbox. Great damage, mind, outstanding damage, and some REALLY good passives, but my attacking options are more or less Crippling Strike, Toxic Strike, Confounding Blind, and Barbaric Smash - I might try to work in an upgrade for Crippling Strike somewhere, but I don't really have the room. I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas for pirate-themed builds? I'll list the one I'm playing now, and some others I've considered. 1. Marauder (Berserker/Streetfighter): Sabre and Dagger/Pollaxes - This one has been a ton of fun to use, and will be even moreso once I get a Confusion clear so I can go a little more ham on Frenzy. I feel like it's one of the best fits thematically, and it has one of the best Recovery times in the game (To the point where you more or less don't need a Dexterity investment and can put the points into Constitution instead). Plus, Barbarian synergizes really well with a subclass that benefits from Bloodied. 2. Swashbuckler (Devoted (Saber) or No-Subclass/Streetfighter): Essentially, my Marauder build with some defensive options in Constant Recovery and Armored Grace (Which isn't so much a defensive option, but allows me to wear heavier armor), and removing the (constant) need for a way to resist/remove Intellect afflictions (Though Devil of Caroc Breastplate still seems like the best pick for dual martial characters). While I lose out on the Barbarian's extra damage bonuses, Fighter offers some of its own, though much later on, and gives perks such as Disciplined Strikes, Penetrating Strike, Charge (Which now properly targets Deflection but, hey, it's a Stun), and more. It's also rather thematically appropriate. ... And that's all I've got. Curious to hear your thoughts on the fun factor of these two - right now, I just have my MC as a Marauder and Eder as a Swashbuckler to go off of. Right now, I'm thinking Marauder is a little more my style, plus it fits the character I'm wanting to play, but Swashbuckler seems like it could be a lot of fun too.

Hey guys, So... I think I broke Eder. I've gone to talk to Waenglith over and over again, because that's usually how I get his quest to fire - talk to her, he mentions his ex, Waenglith tells him where to go ask around. But he's not biting. Should I skip the middle man and just take him to the Temple of Gaun and ask there? Or is his personal quest just broken until he randomly decides to not be?

Hey guys, So, I know that Alchemy has become slightly less absurd since the patch, and was wondering if it's still considered a "Must pick" for the Watcher, like it was before? I'm trying to think of active skills to focus on for my Marauder (For those Watcher-only checks when they do appear) and was thinking something along the lines of Mechanics/Stealth, as opposed to my usual go-to of Alchemy/Stealth, but then I have party members for that who might be more suitable. As for passives, is it better for the Watcher to just pour all of their points into one or two or can I have a splash of other skills as well? I was thinking of taking at least five points in Metaphysics, and then putting the rest into Insight and Intimidate or Insight and Streetwise).

Pukestabber seems pretty great - and can't you enchant it to ignore hangovers anyway? You don't need the ring. I'll definitely use Lord Darryn's too, for thematic purposes, even if I just keep it in the OH and don't use it much. Can someone tell me if you can upgrade the Highwayman Enchantment for Scordeo's to apply the Accuracy buff to melee weapon attacks as well? For the Pistol, there's an enchant that makes it so that you can apply the corresponding buff (Since they're 'supposed' to be used as a matched set, but... You know, mixed melee/ranged sets kinda suck) to apply on ranged attacks as well, so I was hoping it's the other way around, too (The wiki doesn't list enchants). Right now I'm thinking Scordeo's + Pukestabber or Scordeo's + Rust's would be pretty cool for one weapon set, with Lord Darryn's in the other hand, occasionally swapped out for Last Word + Glacierbane once I finish the DLC? Is there still plenty to do sidequest wise if you focus on main story/some faction quests until you finish the last one? Scordeo's Edge doesn't come until pretty late in the game usually, but I want to make sure there's plenty of content to use it on, y'know?

Only issue with Bloody Links is that I like the DoC Breastplate for removing the Confusion from Frenzy. The new mace seems pretty cool though!Yeah good pt. Or you could use Modwyr since it gives immunity. Lots of options I had trouble picking too haha. Yeah, especially since you can use any weapon you want - you just won't have the modal ability. I like the idea of Modwyr, my only issue with using her is that swords just don't seem very pirate-y. They don't seem at all Marauder-y to me. When I think of a Marauder I think of a vicious Raider with bludgeoning weapons or axes. Yeah, that's why I was thinking Oathbreaker's End or Lord Darryn's Voulge, but then I'd hamper myself in terms of Full Attack damage and... I THINK penetration (Two-handers seem to have really low Penetration).
