Where are you getting the 75% damage reduction for all range attacks ? Are you assuming that Patinated Plate will always cause underpenetration and Reckless Brigandine never will, or am i misunderstanding you? Because the way you seem to word it seems rather biased. It seems to me you are pointing out the best case scenario of Patinated Plate and comparing it to the average scenario of Reckless Brigandine. Because all range weapon has pierce damage, and Reckless Brigandine has 4 less pierce armor, this mean 1 - 2 skeleton ranger will shred you on the pieces, no matter how much you AS you has > It seems to me you are pointing out the best case scenario of Patinated Plate and comparing it to the average scenario of Reckless Brigandine. All enemies ranger weapon usually has Exceptional quality and ~(9 - 10) + (2 - 4) AR from PotD scaling - which mean each +1 armor multiplicative (yes damage reduction is multiplicative) reduce incoming damage by 25%, the simplest way to make your front-line get +75% damage reduction is take one potion of magic shield This is average scenario for Patinated Plate, I played only solo with DD mod and I have Build around this armor, I know about what I talking, I even recorded a lot of videos with this armor It make you near immune to most of melee guys in the game > Average scenario of Reckless Brigandine. As I told this armor is completely useless for frontline without deflection stacking or unbending from fighter, on this forum we also discussion about Brigandine, and average speed bonus is something like 17% recovery speed If you are playing on PoTD Upscaling i'm assuming you are knowledgeable enough about game mechanics to play around worst case scenarios of any particular build/ite,. Just because an item does have a conditional weakness doesn't mean you can't easily make up for it by utilizing consumables, temporarily swapping the item out or just approaching that particular fight with that particular weakness in mind.

High Harbinger's Robes begs to defer. Also weapon switching on 4 weapon slots fire arms with Fleshmender and never reloading. List isn't updated for BoW.
-
Why would you rate Effigys Husk that highly? Most of its effects are based on you getting hit, and if you are wearing a robe you probably don't want to be getting hit.Is it for the immunity to might/perception affliction?
-
You are not representing the full reason why the recovery time is so low. It's because monks offer a ton of action speed bonuses, and you don't point out what weapon you use. With the information you are giving me you could be comparing the action speed of a one handed dagger, with multiple self buffs plate user to a two handed Great Sword, no buffs, robe wearer.

You keep saying this, yet despite many suggestions and feedback there have been no changes made? From what I see, no changes were made based on reddit "feedback" either. The OP is also known for advertising his stream and other social media and donation link on reddit. It's not pure spam - he does have lists, some guides and high difficulty streams. So I think he's genuine. I think he's put some hours in. But in my personal opinion, everything seems just a little off, and the media follow spam gets a little annoying. I think he puts mediocre effort into creating content to try to get some views and money. Then you didn't look hard enough. Sometimes I made changes on feedback, the other times i argued against it and was unconvinced. One of my hopes of posting on this forum was to get more feedback to improve the list. If you think my content is mediocre that's fine. I have only been doing this about a month and I'm still looking to improve. I'm not ashamed to admit that I was hoping putting out content would lead to increased viewers. But that is not the sole reason I made the guides. It was mainly for my own enjoyment as a hobby. I do believe my content has value, even if there are several improvements to be made.

You keep saying this, yet despite many suggestions and feedback there have been no changes made? Its because I have spent effort on arguing pointless **** like this instead of actually making edits to the guide.

Fair enough, a colleague then. If a colleague asked your opinion on a draft of a proposal he was gonna make, you wouldn't say that it his proposal is useless and then imply he has put little to no effort in it. That would be unneccesarily antagonistic. Even if you came with good pointers after it is human nature to not be as receptive to your ideas afterwards.

Then the list is of little relevance, right? Because judging weapons based on their description alone doesn't work well. Take Scordeos Edge: you can't know that its bonuses work for all weapons you use unless you used it. You'd have to test it to find out. Also that Grave Calling and Hel Beckoning can be used to summon imps that don't count towards the summon limit and let you create a huge imp army (if you pair it with the right classes) can only be experienced by testing (or reading people's posts about testing). Another example (not one-handed though): the Espirs estoc will proc Ghost Blades on kill. That's the description. Sounds rather lame because Ghost Blades only have 8-11 base damage. What the description doesn't say and what you can only find out via testing is that those Ghost Blades profit from the enchantments of the blade, from all passive abilities that work with the blade (e.g. Sneak Attach, Two Handed Style etc.). And that not only kills with the Blade trigger those "empowered" Ghost Blades but all kills as long as you hold the weapon. This includes the Ghost Blades themselves which can therefore proc themselves. So, the difference between description and actual behavior is huge. There are so many behaviors that only get revealed once you use an item - a tier list (partially) based on item description is rather pointless in my opinion. You are taking the statement "I haven't tested them all" and turn it into "I have done 0 tests" which is a strawman argument and very disingenuous. He's taken your statement and applied it to the weapons that you think are ****. How do I know that? Your very description and ranking of Grave Calling and Hel Beckoning indicates that you think very poorly of them, however testing indicates that they are quite powerful. He didn't make a strawman argument, maybe you should learn what one is before you start throwing it around. A strawman is when someone is trying to make it seem like they refuted someones argument, by misrepresenting their argument and then providing evidence against the misrepresented version. He has done that multiple times on several occasions.
-
In a lot of ways: Interpret it as I meant it: "no point [making a tier list] when having no in-game experience with [several of] them" and "because judging weapons based on their description alone [and putting them into a tier list with others you did test] doesn't work well". Don't read something mean(er) into my sentences than there is. I never said you did zero tests nor that you have no in-game experience at all. I said a tier list is pointless because you put items in there that you have tested and ones that you haven't. The "no in-game experience" and "description alone" was aimed at those items, not all of your posts. If you can't concede the point that you have made multiple overtly hostile and misleading claims about my post then I'm not sure we can come to an understanding. If it happened once or twice it could just be me misinterpreting but it has happened on so many occasions. You have repeated the same statements multiple times aswell, and when I call you out on it you backpedal. If you have any suggestions about placing an item in a different tier I will take your opinion into account, but at this point I feel like I have spent enough time and energy arguing with you on matters that are pretty pointless.

I was just typing a similar suggestion. I would rate how the weapons are useful to the various roles, striker, controller, tank, and support. Try it like this: Gladiator Sword Striker * Tank **** Controller ** Support ** This is an early game sword found during the main quest on the starter island. While not the best, in terms of damage, this weapon is great for your tank when you find it. Make sure to buy the sharpening upgrade as soon as you find this. You will probably have the ingreadients, and the extra pen will help your tank contribute some damage. This can be given to anyone who may want a few extra deflection, but its use is fairly limited to early game. Strikers will have much better options, so they should give this to a companion. I will keep this in mind for when i make a weapons progression guide. Your idea seems more appropriate for that then for a guide that is discussing a weapon based on it's endgame enchantments.
-
At some point making your tank even tankier will lose a lot of value, especially since most heals are AoE in this game. For instance using patinated plate with 70% recovery means your tank is basically contributing almost nothing other then damage soaking (unless he is a chanter). Put a Reckless Brigandine and a lot of engagement slots (some builds can reach 9ish with items) and suddenly you are sat with a 45% action speed bonus at the start of the fight, meaning you can contribute with a lot of utility like for instance CC. It's a fair criticism of my armour list that i value low recovery over survivability. I am happy to discuss this part. The list was never intended to be an in depth look at the mechanics behind armor itself, and I see no reason why it has to be. This guide does not have to exist in a vacuum. As I said earlier the reason this list is the least thorough is because the mechanics are more straightforward then on a lot of weapons. Why is putting the armors in to a comparative category a problem? There are clear cut cases where some armors are just straight up bad. Why is there a need to pretend that all items in this game is equally viable.

You don't take into account the fact that the base damage for Arquebus is much higher. You mention a lot of the weapon effects of Hunting Bow but if you compare a normal Arquebus next to a Hunting bow thoughs effects are balanced around having different recovery, base dmg, penetration, modals etc. It's simpler to just look at what additional modifiers the weapons of themselves get, to get a comparison on the relative strength of the weapons. Basically the total theoretical dmg output of Red Hand is gonna roughly double that of Essence Interrupter if you have a lot of Guilty Conscience stack. If you compare it to a standard Arquebus it attacks twice (bit less then doubling its dps, due to having two attack animations), then another 40% from max stacked Guilty Conscience. Essence Interrupter gets a 20% Lash effect, which is multiplicative dmg, making it decent. This is obviously simplified and won't translate 100% into game but its close enough to see the massive disparity. Got some feedback on the summon for Essence Interrupter on reddit and it was better then my initial assumption (summoned creature does scale with enemy level), so Im planning to move it into B - Tier atleast but my post seems to be bugged atm. Well, then you don't understand very well how it works... The 20% lash damage basically compensates for the lower base damage. The main dmg advantage of the Red Hand is given by Guilty Conscience which can be used by ALL weapons (and by itself it represents overall only a 10-20% dmg increase - depending on your total dmg bonuses). On the other hand Aamiina's Legacy will shoot at least 10% faster (based on the average attack of a double shot with the Red Hand). That means Aamiina's Legacy has 10% lower dps than the Red Hand in the worst scenario and 20% higher dps in the best scenario (if you're using Guilty Conscience with Aamiina's Legacy) If I understand you correct, you mean that you first stack The Red Hand to max THEN swap to Aaminas Legacy and you retain the buff? That obviously does complicate the calculation, but seems very cumbersome especially since the buff resets on rest. There might be something i'm missing but attacking twice should be a much more powerful effect unless you have insane recovery time compared to a 20% lash. Are you making the case that Hunting Bows are just way better weapons then Arquebus and that compensates for a weaker effect, or that the Lash effect is stronger then shooting twice? It just seems you are only taking into account the positve effects of a Hunting Bow and not the negative effects like lower pen, weapon modal giving a huge accuracy penalty, lower base dmg etc. The main damage advantage of the Red Hand is the ability to shoot twice, not Guilty Conscience.

You are taking the statement "I haven't tested them all" and turn it into "I have done 0 tests" which is a strawman argument and very disingenuous. And you are using a personal attack to express your frustration. I never said that you did 0 tests. You said you didn't test them all - I say that the list is rather pointless then. Because some of your opinions are based on tests and some not. And we can't say which ones. So we can't trust your judgement on all of them because we always must fear that you didn't test that one particular item I'm interested in. This is not personal - I just don't think your list is good. If you will improve it in the future with edits, based on feedback then I will be happy to tap your shoulder - even though I generally think that tier lists in Deadfire are... difficult. Better make an informative list of pros and cons and recommendations for which build/role a certain item would be useful. But even a tier list would be ok. It will always be biased but as long as the infos around it are correct it's good enough. You are entitled to think my list isn't very good. The only thing I ask is that you read the guide the way it's intended and stop taking things out of context. I think all of the factual statements are correct (I did go by ingame values after Patch 1.2 but obviosuly some might be incorrect). The rest of course, is subjective opinion, and is liable to change based on new information. A very clear cut example is if someone tries to imply I mean that Miscreant's Leather is the armor that is going to make you deal the most damage, which is a pretty far-fetched way of stretching the intention behind my comments for the armor.

There are 8 damage types in the game. This adds resistance to two of them (albeit they are two of the most common ones). But, assuming you are putting it on a backliner, you are adding a stat (tankiness) to a role that doesn't necessarily need it. I guess you could make it work on a frontline dps aswell but there are just so many good alternatives you can grab early game if you want a low recovery frontline armor, or a high recovery super tanky armor. Again you claim its done with little in-game experience which is a claim you make with no evidence. I do agree that putting it into tier - D might be harsh. Please, if you have a suggestion for a build/situation it is consistently good, then I would be happy to hear a civil well thought out response. There a general problem with your guide, your B-S system will make new players misunderstand armor mechanics. You can classify armor by type, write few words about build that can use it..., but now its look like you even didn't check builds list on this forum and only want advertise your own content Lets me write some example what I expect from your guide Heavy armor - usually used by tank builds or builds that can overcome recovery speed penalty Tip: To overcome recovery speed penalty use Abraham pet or Armor Grace + Pet (didn't remember pet name) Patinated Plate - good vs group of melee enemies with high attack speed and middle fortitude, bad vs enemies that has crush/shock damage (builds list with this armor) Blackened Plate Armor - good vs enemy that has very high AR because armor passive stack with any other AR reduction debuff (builds list with this armor) I have only read a small portion of discussions on this forum. This forum is intended for anyone who is interested in Pillars of Eternity to use, not just diehard hardcore fans to post in. Neither is there any reason someone should have to be up to date on every discusssion going on in this forum before posting their opinions. And yes i'm well aware of Armored Grace and Pets. I don't understand why you think I am obligated to format my post according to your preference. In future posts I will take feedback into account but that doesn't mean I will make massive changes to the content I want to put out because a few people gets their panties twisted in a bunch.

I did run a limited test on Essence Interrupter and made a qualifier on my opinion. It's a weapon that has been fairly recently been added to the game and I haven't had time to use it in a playthrough. My assumption (that summons didn't scale with creature level) was wrong, which means I have to now reassess it. I'm still sceptical about the claim that it is one of the best weapons in the game though. I hadn't considered Watershapers Focus as a dps weapon only as a stat stick.I did run some tests on Watershapers Focus and did make some quick notes on it for the reddit discussion, but as I mentioned earlier this post seems abit buggy so I haven't been able to update it. My general impression that its probably very strong for soloplay but I'm abit uncertain about how well the proc will work outside of using Driving Flight/Twinned Shot in party play. 15% corrode lash (15% corrode and Ondra's Wrath are mutually exclusive) and +1 bounce definitely makes it a good weapon on its own for group play. Without more testing it's hard for me to make a judgment call on how good the proc is for party play.
-
My claim was supposed to be this item is the one who has the best mix of survivability/recovery time for a dpser. I'm assuming most people understand that 0% recovery of a robe is faster then 10% recovery of this armor
-
I guess thats what I get for posting on a forum I'm unfamiliar with. It's abit confusing when people claim that I'm representing myself both as an authority and at the same time claim I have no experience. In three out of four post I even prefaced by saying its based upon my opinion and testing ;/ I guess thats what happens when different people make different assumptions of my intention. My armor tier list is definitely the one I've done the least amount of testing with, mainly because a lot of the enchants are fairly straightforward so making educated guesses are easier. You probably didn't intend it this way but saying "Most of the posters on this forum are diehard fans and have more knowledge about the game than anywhere else on the net" kind of comes across as abit elitist even if it is true or not. The guides wasn't intended for someone who has sunk 300 hours into a game, more of a quick reference list for someone wanting to do their own theorycrafting and to provoke discussion.
-
You called me disingenous. But that's no problem, I'm not offended by it - so just forget it. Ah yes sorry it came out abit wrong. I intended to say that strawman arguments are disingenous, not you as a person.
-
You are saying I have no in game experience but I do have 224 hours played with the game, a sizeable portion of which is spent just testing weapons. This is some pretty dumb ad-hominem bull****. I'm not claiming I have an objetive 140 IQ knowledge about every single weapon/class/build combination in the game, its just meant as a tool to help people theory craft. Im happy to update the post when people contribute in the discussion but it is after all based on MY OPINION, which any Tier List is ultimately going to be.You really have to calm down. I'm critizing your list, not you as a person. I wish we could keep it that way. And what's that about 224 hours of playing the game has to do with anything? I played the Deadfire beta for over 300 hours and until now put 650 hours into Deadfire - most of it is testing gear. Yet I couldn't do an objective tier list of items. Because I'm far from the point where I tested all weapons with all builds that might be good with them. How could I? It's too much stuff. That's why I usually only judge and recommend items I have used. Or at least discussed in the forums. And even then I make lots of mistakes because a patch can alter item behaviours - sometime secretly or I just missed some cool stuff although I used the item in-game. But based on your argument I should be doing at least 3 of those lists. But if I would make such a "complete" list it would be pointless as well. It's not about you - your approach is just so that I say it is not very useful. That might hurt you, but I don't attack you personally. I guess this might be where is some of the confusion comes from. I never intended to claim my list was objective. It's just based on a lot of testing, theorycrafting and discussion on reddit. Only read a few posts on this forum, so you probably have had some discussions i'm not aware of. Which is one of the points on posting it on multiple forums, to get different feedback. What do you mean with "But based on your argument I should be doing at least 3 of those lists." . It seems we are talking above eachothers heads or something. My point was just that my opinion was rooted in experience, not just copypasta from the wiki. I didn't mean that my argument was objective due to time spent in the game - rather my opinions are rooted in experience (which is of course subjective).

It's abit hard to follow since we have posted in multiple places but if I did, I'm sorry. As i pointed out in another post you did make the claim serveral times that I had only based my information of wikis and had no ingame experience with it. But again, I'm willing to drop it and discuss the actual game.

How is this not claiming I did 0 tests? If you actually read the entirety of the posts you will see very clearly i discuss things in detail. I'm willing to drop this matter and move forward. Its pretty difficult to have a discussion when we are both typing across multiple posts. It just seems like a big waste of time. I will try my best to update the lists, but it might take me some time due rl responsibilities.

Then the intention of the guides becomes very different then what I had intended. No one is forcing you to contribute to the discussion. There is always gonna be different preferences on how things should be done. I will listen to feedback, but in the end it is my guide based on my opinions/experiences and I can format it however I see fit. I'm not sure but it kinda seems like some people doesn't like the fact im trying to make value judgments about the viability of different items? Then this guide and my future guides will probably not be your cup of tea and thats fine. You can chose to hate on it, contribute to it or ignore it. Noone is gonna stop you.
-
Claiming that mixing them makes the list useless is pretty absurd. I'm trying to provide enough information that people can make up their own minds what will fit their build/playstyle. There is a pretty big difference between rating something low because it's only useful against a small portion of enemies in the game (for instance spirits) and rating something high because a weapon only works on certain builds (but will be very good throughout basically all enounters in the game). As you can see my Armor/Ranged Weapon Tier lists are way more consistent on those facts just because of the nature of the enchantments they get. They usually have more general utility, instead of conditional utility.

Thank you for reading my post in it's intended state. I was hoping to spark a discussion with another audience like I did on reddit. I'm still hopeful this is possible. To anyone reading my posts, sorry if im coming of abrasive. It just sucks when you put a lot of effort into something and then people take a big **** on it.
