Why everyone should be light side
Rubber Ducky replied to huey27's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I beleive that it may have been mobile, but its current location was ideal. First of all, the Republic had no idea that there were any Sith at all in that remote area, allowing uninterrupted production of warships. second, if he brought it into battle, the Republic would know that it was the driving force behind the Sith and send their entire fleet after it to destroy it. Here's my logic. This is about combat value. Droid=1 Fighter=10 Capital Ship=100000 Star Forge= 100000000000000000 THe Star Forge is obviously thousands of times more powerful than anything it produces. However, if it's pumping out a capital ship or two every day, plus hundreds of fighters and thousands of droids, it makes up for itself, if not in raw power, then in versatility. The Star Forge, no matter how powerful, can only be in one place at any given moment. However, the unbeleivable numbers it's spitting it out can go separate ways in mass. Although they may not be powerful enough to destroy entire worlds on their own, these little divisions can be holding their own at opposite ends of the Galaxy. WHy didn't he turn it to dreadnaught mode when it was attacked? Turning a factory the size of a small planet into a warship the size of a small planet would definately take more than the hour or so that the battle happened in. It would also probably reveal some serious openings mid-transformmation that could cripple the entire operation. -
I don't see how they can top your character being the Dark Lord himself. BTW, I liked the way they did the revelation, bringing up numerous, yet subtle clues about your identity. Oh, and Revan never was completely blank, they just never went into his "history" very much. But he did have a memory, albieght one that wasn't his.

I wonder what the differences will be.

Jolee was the best. He was just a grumpy, old, non-jedi man. With a lightsaber. And force powers. (Anyone remember the first time you heard that. A laugh, perhaps?) As for Sith, definately Darkside-turned-Lightside Bastila. She was no longer arrogant and a real b!tch. Permanent Sith? Yuthura and Uthar (you can make his name out of hers!) Why Yuthura? Because she screamed real good and loud when she was blown through the air by the Deadly Plasma mine I had set on the ramp in the final tomb. Why Uthar? Because he was stupid enough to keep running up the ramp after Yuthura found the mine. Where there's one, there's more. That's the way I like my Sith: Stupid and, as a result of their stupidity, dead. What I really liked about him was that he died in the funniest position. Since he went down on the ramp, he began to slide down, except that his legs didn't become level with the ramp. He stopped really suddenly, his head through the static and his body "hovering" above the ground.

Why everyone should be light side
Rubber Ducky replied to huey27's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
1. Can't argue with that, especially since one of them is known throughout the galaxy for her Battle Meditation, one was quite possibly the most powerful jedi ever, infamous as the greatest tactician of all time, and one was just an old man (Who could use the force to crush the life from your body, call lightnin gfrom the sky to strike you, and heal the entire party of jedi, all at the same time, without lifting a finger). 2. Nord put up a fight and would've given you some trouble if that girder hadn't fallen on his head. Of course, Davik was weak, so Malak probably thought that with some Rodians with blasters at his side, he could get the job done. Besides, he wanted to kill you, so he probably gave Malak a great deal compared to other bounties. He probably gave Malak the standard half now, half later payment plan, so Malak thought he'd give it a shot. 3. They weren't in battle, so Revan probably didn't have the sheilds activated, saving energy should they be suddenly ambushed. My question is this: Malak shot a blast from the main cannon right into Revan's unshielded bridge. Revan was broken (yet Bastila, 8 feet away, was merely knocked over) with that blast. Yet the viewing window was unscathed, despite the direct, fully charged hit of a battle cruiser. Hm? 4. The Sith are oppurtunists. Why waste time, money, and men building a barely mobile uber-laser, when you could simply take a pre-existing factory that used very few physical resources to produce high-quality droids and vehicles, not to mention that it had no hole on the outside that led right to something that would the whole thing up. 5. He does send a group of three Dark Jedi after you on two of those planets. Dark Jedi who can't seem to figure out which end of the rod the blade comes out until they press the magic button. 6. Can't argue. But I'm glad he didn't monetheless. 7. What Malak lacked in brains, he made up for with... nevermind, you're right. 8. The admiral was dead, the entire bridge was a burning graveyard, and Malak already had what he wanted. He didn't think you were powerful enough to challenge him, since you were "merely a pawn of the Jedi Counsel". Besides, I don't think he could've if he wanted to. 9. Malak didn't just want you dead. The droids were there to kill you, true, but if you passed them, he knew that you were powerful enough to at least challenge him. He said that he wanted it to be master versus apprentice, to prove once and for all that he was stronger. Besides, he had those drinkable Jedi in the other room. Without them, he would've been dead much quicker. -
How will the hand-to-hand work? What would be its governing attributes? Also, I read somewhere that ranged characters will actually be useful in a lightsaber fight. Any news on how?

You didn't really have many options as far choices for your companions' scripts went. What was it, three? But that was Bioware. There's a lot of guys from Black Isle in Obsidian, and if you've ever played IWD II, you'll know that they might go the extra mile and throw in a page or two of script options for your companions.

Which KOTOR Ending Will Be Used?
Rubber Ducky replied to Rubber Ducky's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I did read the stickies, but I beleive that the sequel would be very different if the Sith were still using the Star Forge or not. Too much of a difference to simply program two large, different things and only add one to each game, if that makes any sense. -
First and foremost, I'm sorry if someone's asked this already. I know that you will go through conversations early on that reflect how you played KOTOR, and that there willb minor changes according to how you respond. But which ending of KOTOR will be used? I know that logically it would be the Darkside ending because of the Jedi purge (that happens pretty often), but I can't be sure. I read the faq and it said that Revan left one year after KOTOR's events, but that doesn't say much. Could the lightside have won and things simply turned around in 5 years? Also, with the darkside ending, not many characters were left alive. In fact, wasn't it only Bastila, you, the droids, Canderous, and (possibly) Juhani (though many of us probably killed her, being dark and all). Carth was gone, Mission and Zaalbar bit the bullet, Jolee kissed the temple floor (which actually made me sad), and most likely you lost your patience with Juhani. So I don't see how they can do many cameos with that remaining cast. If Revan left, he almost certainly brought HK and Bastila with him. We know that T3 joins your party. Canderous probably signed on with the Sith as a mercenary. That leaves a maximum of two cameos (maybe one, I don't know if Juhani would stick with you on your way to the darkside with Bastila) out of 10 characters, so I'm kind of doubting that the darkside ending will be chosen. Can anyone offer any help?

Cooperative play in an RPG is only good in D&D, whether it's semi-turn based (Icewind Dale I and II) or complete hack'n'slash (Baldur's Gate: DA I and II). Hmm. Ironic. All four of the above games were made by Black Isle studios, the former members of which now make up much of the team making this game. It is D&D-ish as far combat rules go, but I don't know if it would've worked in KOTOR due to the depth of story and the involvement of the main player in that story. It could've been good if one character was recognized as the "hero" and the other controlled the other two party members during combat. Then the two could switch roles at any time. Does that sound like it could be fun or am I just inviting people to stick kickme signs on my back?

I would say no, mainly because the entire advantage of using a whip would be wasted (I'm very skilled with many weapons so this is all known through experience). A whip is never used because the blow itself deals actual damage. A whip is used by the strategist who can use the whip to serve many different purposes instead of simply and directly killing your foes. A whip, when properly used can disarm almost any combatant quickly and efficiently leaving them defenseless against an attack with a blade or other such weapon. A whip can take your opponent off their feet or choke them. But the whips greatest asset is its very intimidating sound. The crack of whip really can keep even a lion at bay once it knows the sting that it delivers. With a whip the cuts on contact and is not solid, all of those advantages would be gone. Someone mentioned wrapping their whip around a jedi's lightsaber and disarming him. THat cannot happen because as a weapon of ligh and energy, it is not solid. Thus there would be no friction between the weapons and the whip would slip right off. Next is the weight issue. A whip only hurts when it's used to lash. Even with a whip that weighs something, the lash is slow because the entire length of the weapon must come down before the point. Now imagine a weightless version. It would be no different than bringing an 8 foot long strip of paper down in a lash. Not only will it be unbeleivably slow, its lack of weight would not allow it to even reach its maximum range. Also related to its weightlessness, if you were to lash and then try to lash again quickly, the whip would not have enough energy in its backwards movement to carry the entire length of whip all the way back, like a paper strip. This would keep the tip low on the backward movement, coming right at you. If you don't move, it will will split you right down the middle. Move to the left (assuming you are right-handed) and you'll be in the same situation you were in a few seconds ago. Move to the right and you're stepping under a falling arc of pure energy, which is not a smart thing to do if you want to live a full life. Plus you'll be in an awkaward position with your arm across your chest give it a tug to the right (the only direction that you can tug it) and you might as well tigh a turnicut right above your left ankle to reduce the bleeding when the line cuts your foot off. Weightless flail weapons are things you'd use if you had a deathwish that you really wanted to come true. Before posting this, I tried it out with a long, strengthened strip of paper, and despite the grace that comes with 18 years of martial training, I could not avoid those problems.
