Maul was Sidious' weapon. When the apprentice gets too strong, either he kills the master or the master kills him and gets another one. It's pretty simple.
Darth Sidious was intimidated by Maul. It's even been suggested that he thought he was sending him to his death to eliminate him. Qui-Gon was known as an excellent swordsman, and he had his Padawan with him.
Do you think it is possible that she was just .... kidding?

Acolyte, eh?
She's a complete stranger. I don't know who she is, and she's never even spoken to me. But, I'll defend her anyway.
And Nur Ab Sal:
I despise intolerance also. But it's not like she's going to kill all men or anything.
Gee, thanks buddy.
Look, I'm just trying to be civil. She doesn't deserve to have everyone team up against her, just like you wouldn't either.
I still stand by her.
Maybe he could actually do stuff...
R2 had initiative. He had tenacity! But then again, he was an astromech droid...

Yeah, that's true. Maybe we should steer clear of Atton Rand; it looks like he is going to be a less than pleasant character.
So, to change the subject, we can talk about, um...
T3. <_<
